How to make the perfect Application!

Hello Applicants! Today I have written for you, a guide on how to create a perfect application for your entry onto the server, this guide shall be breaking down the application into separate parts and giving you tips on each question, please do not plagiarize anything I write in this guide, so without further ado we shall begin.

P.S. One thing to remember on your app is /always/ be honest, honesty is the best policy.

Out of Character Information

This is pretty much the easiest section of the Application, just write down what it tells you to, most of it is just to see what type of people are coming onto the server.

What’s your Minecraft Account Name?: -

Pretty simple, just put down your Minecraft Account Name.

How old are you?: -

Also pretty simple, just write down your age. A little tip, don’t lie about your age, people of all ages are accepted onto this server, and you won’t be judged by your age.

What time-zone do you live in?: -

Just simply put down the timezone you live in.

Have you ever roleplayed before - if you have, how?: -

To put it simply, just put down any past experiences you have had with “Role-Playing”, remember to be honest as you will not be judged if you have never had previous experiences in roleplay.

Have you been on any other roleplaying servers?: -

Yet again, just specify if you have been on other roleplaying servers.

Have you applied to this server before?(Please link past applications): -

Just link any of your previous applications on the server, if it is your first application then feel free to write “N/A”.

How did you hear about us?: -

This is just to find out how people are finding out about the server, simply just write down how you found out about the server, be it a friend told you or you saw it on reddit etc.

What do you think the server will be like? -

This is just your personal opinion, from what you have seen just write down what you think the server will be like.

Have you read and agreed to the rules?: -

Do /not/ lie about this part, you /must/ read the rules to fully understand what the server is like, lying about it will only make it worse for yourself and other people on the server. A link to the server rules is here:

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/page/info/rules

What’s your favourite rule / the rule you agree with the most?: -

This question is put in place to ensure that the Applicant has indeed read the rules, just to rule out any liers. Pretty much just put down a rule that you agree with the most, or like the most.

Definitions

This section of the Application is to find out how much you really know about Roleplaying. Everything you write in this section must be written on your own and in your own words, plagiarism will not be tolerated.

What is roleplaying?: -

This question is asking what the definition of role-playing is in your own words, a good example would be “Taking the role of a different persona and basing your decisions and actions upon the persona’s personality and traits”, a good thing to add to your application is an example of roleplaying, although it is not needed, it gives the AT member reading the application justification that you understand what roleplaying is, for example you would write the definition of roleplaying in your own words then add an example such as “For example, if a thief type of character saw a rich merchant they would try and rob him, whereas if a bandit type of character saw the rich merchant they would most likely kill him instead of just plain out robbing him”

What’s metagaming?: -

This question is asking what the definition of meta-gaming is in your own words, a good example would be “Meta-Gaming is the use of Out of Character information In Character to further enhance ones goals”, yet again an example is always a good thing to be added, such as “For example, someone is being robbed and tell his friend to come help him over skype, the friend shows up and helps his friend, yet that persons character has no reason to go there as he does not know his anyone is being attacked”

What’s powergaming?: -

This question is asking what the definition of power-gaming is in your own words, a good example would be “Forcing actions upon another person and giving your character god-like abilities”, an example being given always helps, an example such as “For example, someone gets into a fight and emotes *stabs the knight or *kills the knight, or if someone dodges four arrows being shot at him at the same time” would suffice.

Remember to not use any of the definitions or examples I have listed as it would be plagiarism, I have simply wrote them down to give you the general gist on how to properly write down your answers to these three questions.

In Character Information

This is the section of your application that is dedicated to one thing only, your character. Remember to be imaginative and have fun with this section of the application.

What’s your character called?: -

This is completely up to you, your character can be called anything you want (as long as it is not offensive) for example, a name I have always been fond of is “Cornelius J. Fillmore”

What race are they (and sub-race)?: -

This is to find out what race your character plays, and their subrace. Each race has it’s own subraces, for example you would write “Dwarf - Forest Dwarf”. Remember to read up on your races lore to fully grasp what they are like.

What sex are they?: -

This question is pretty simply, just reply with “Male or Female”

How old are they?: -

For this question you must simply write down your characters age, however make sure that the age you write down does not conflict with your chosen race’s lore, for example you can’t have a Human who is 300 years old, and you can’t have a Dwarf who is 3000 years old.

Give us a brief description of their life - their story, childhood, family (Include server lore when writing): -

This is pretty much your character’s history, it’s backstory. When writing this remember to be imaginative, you can make your character whatever you want it to be, a librarian, a warrior, a brewer, absolutely anything. But remember when writing your character’s backstory to include server lore, such as significant cities and places in the server’s lore, this proves to the AT member reviewing your application that you have indeed read the server lore and your own race’s lore. I would recommend 2-3 paragraphs when writing your backstory, however if you would like to write more it only increases your chances of getting accepted.

What are they like (personality)?: -

This yet again is completely up to you, what is your character’s personality? Are they moody and mean? Are they romantic and sweet? Are they brave and chivalrous? The list goes on, remember it is your character so you can give him any personality you would like.

What are their ambitions?: -

Read it as it is written, what are your character’s ambitions? Does your character wish to become a powerful mage? Or the King of his own Kingdom? The best archer in all the lands? It is completely up to you and you are free to write whatever you like.

Do they have any special skills?: -

Well does your character have any special skills? Are they a good fighter? Maybe a good diplomat? Or maybe even your character is an extremely good writer? Once more it is completely up to you, let your imagination run wild.

What are their weaknesses?: -

This question is to make sure your character isn’t too overpowered. Everyone has weaknesses right? You could put anything down such as “Has a fear of Orcs” or “Is diabetic”, anything will do, although I recommend your character has a few weaknesses.

Give us a description of how they look (not a screenshot yet!)?: -

This is pretty much what your character looks like, such as your character has brown eyes, black hair etc. Things such as their height, weight, facial and body features should be included.

Anything else you want to say about them?: -

This could be anything from your character has a disliking for milk to your character is a hopeless romantic. Just little things that add to your character to give them that extra bit of originality.

Please give us a screenshot of your character’s skin: -

All you must do for this is to link the picture of the skin you plan on using on the server, the skin must fit your characters race and features, but you can generally find many skins on websites such as Planet Minecraft or Minershoes.

Well thats it for this guide, I hope you enjoyed reading it and most of all I hope this helps you in creating your application. Good luck to you applicants and I’ll see you soon!

Here I was, expecting another trolly thread like people seem to make these days, when what I found actually suprised and impressed me. This is an excellent guide and I'll probably show it to applicants in future! Excellent work.
