Chickens Dying After Being Bred

First of I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I was told by a mod to post this here because we wasn't to sure of the answer himself and he said the techies could help me out. After breeding chickens a few of them seem to die for some reason. Is this because the pen is to small to support the amount of chickens? Or they are dying of old age? If I could just get some clarification on how the plugin works that would be great, thanks.

Alpine is wrong. We were having the same problem with our sheep before we gave them a bigger area. As you pondered yes they are to cramped. I havn't been farming chickens yet but I doubt they need much space.
