By: Achan-Chatla.This is the summary of a study conducted and a theory that has been developed through the findings of said study. This will be in-part a recollection of evidence presented to me by one of the denizens of The Void; commonly referred to as a ‘voidal horror’ and a series of educated speculations by myself.Druids, Shamans and those affiliated with what we would refer to as ‘the natural order’ have often warned of the uses of the magics of The Void, and that they are perversions of the natural order and the elements therein. For years the majority of the magical community has taken note of these exhortations but simply dismissed them as the ramblings of mad-men and the uneducated. However after much deliberation I have concluded that while these individuals might have been incorrect upon the effects of the void they were correct in their skepticism in the safety of the long-term use of The Arcane.I met upon my travels of Athera a small humanoid being by the name of Maru; if I were to describe this creature as a sickly-thin goblin with a swollen head resembling that of an owl and feathers coating much of Its head, shoulders and upper back then I would be providing a faithful depiction of this creature. Now those whom have met me personally are aware that I myself can be described as ‘abominable’ and ‘alien’ in appearance but despite this it came as quite the surprise when Maru had recognized me whilst I was uncovered fishing in the lake nearest Avalon. Maru spoke to me in a guttural series of groans, hisses, and gurgles that held just enough order to them to be described as some sort of foreign tongue. When I insisted that I did not understand it the creature managed out broken common in kind with that of the Raevir peoples of Oren or a child and spoke to me as though there were familiarity between us; what suggested familiarity was the repeated use of a rather guttural screech-like sound it insisted upon using as my name despite repeated requests to the contrary. Maru was a simple creature in mind, with the great desire to paint and deface magical paraphernalia. Which is why it came as a surprise that it was able to bypass wards set by one Blundermore and use alteration to simply deactivate and vandalize them as though it were as simple as slathering paint upon an Orenian wall. It did this repeatedly with no evidence of growing fatigued and plastered innumerable faces upon the dwelling for the sake of childlike amusement. After witnessing such a display I implored Maru to sit down and have a chat with me and answer a few of my questions, it seemed more than eager to answer my questions. I pried Maru for the details of Its origins in similar fashion that others have done to me- however unlike myself Maru was able to give me a definite answer upon where it was from. It described Its home as a “large space where it did whatever it wanted with the others” when I pressed It for details upon the nature of Its home it informed that me it was “A big empty place where a lot is happening all the time’. In return I described our image of the Seven Skies, the Nether as some have talked of it and The Void. When I described The Void as a never ending space of chaos and change; Maru responded positively and told me: “Yeah, like that.” The next questions came not from me but from Maru. It had asked whether or not I remembered home and if when I came here if I had gotten lonely or ‘missed’ It and the ‘others’. I asserted I had no recollection of what It told me and it explained to me that it had fond memories of myself before the “bright light took me away”. Now were it not for the unusual circumstances of my own birth any rational being would merely dismiss this notion; however it fell in line with what I remembered of my own emergence into this world; that whilst my adoptive father Howard was first connecting to The Void that a bright light and a force of concussive energy tossed him across the room and when it faded he found me lying in the floor, clumsily plucking the strings of one of his harps with clear amusement. I pressed the topic of this “bright Light” and Maru had informed me that it just began appearing and abducting those of Its realm. At first it came only once in a very long while, but in recent time had been growing much more frequent and that more were disappearing to never return. the rest of the interview is of little interest to the topic. This marks the end of the portion of this report detailing my experiences interacting with The Voidal Horror, Maru. I will instead move unto my own theories and evidence supporting such. My theory is as follows: Between our world and The Void there exists a sort of wall that one must bypass through meditation to connect their mind and body to The Void for use of the arcane. Now an unprecedented side-effect of this is what we refer to as void poisoning, the release of energy into the body form this connection that drains the wielder of magic’s strength. Now it has been confirmed that the use of magic often leads to the creation of what has been referred to as “Voidal Horrors/Terrors” such as myself. Significant events that distort power from The Void such as the collapsing of the mage’s tower in Anthos upon The Void Node, the failure of the Mana Obelisk at the Alras College in The Fringe, The overexertion of The Void in Skaravia in Asulon. Tracking the historical records of released Voidal horrors throughout the years there has emerged a disturbing pattern; there was at the beginning perhaps one voidal-horror recorded per century previously including myself. In the past thirty years alone there have been four confirmed voidal horrors upon Athera and the fringe that have attacked the public and caused mass hysteria during their appearance. Two out of four of these horrors have sprung up where no evidence exists of magical abuse but rather of just weak spells gone awry. This leads me to believe that due to the widespread growth of magical study and practice in recent years that the wall between this realm and The Void is thinning and the repeated taking of energies and connections to The Void is leading to such- this is allowing creatures like myself and others to be forcibly plucked from it and take up residence in our realm. The Majority of which have been exceptionally powerful and wielded magics that we seldom understood and were terribly hostile. It is my belief that should the use of magic remain unchecked and continue to spread freely among the populace that the number of Voidal horrors that escape their home will grow until the wall simply shatters and allows them free access, it is impossible to know how many exist within the confines of their home and should it be that they are simply made within The Void whenever we draw energy from it and disrupt it- then by now they would be innumerable and should the vast majority be hostile then it is unlikely that we shall obtain victory over them.
