House Marbrand & All Concerning Branches

“Death before Disgrace.”

“We will not burn.”

The conception of the Marbrand dynasty occurred in the late ages of Athera. Not much has been recorded of the previous generations, as they were mere merchants and fisherfolk. It was not until the arrival at Vailor when the family truly began to establish well relations with the higher men and women of the realm. Many notable figures assisted in the ascent Marbrand made, such as Denis de Bar, Nafis Yar, Petyr Barbanov, and most prominently, His Imperial Grace, Charles Horen.

Geralt Marbrand lived in the slums of Alamar, working as a captain of a sturdy and fierce dromond. He had a wife of an unknown family, Elize. The two conceived four children, in which Geralt’s close brother, Aemond, conceived two. The family were a hardworking unit, serving loyally to their northern liege until Geralt had gained enough coin to inject it into the costly plans of the construction of the Marbrand Fleet.

As the dromonds and galleys were constructed by the many shipwrights and dockmasters that flocked to the crude bays of Alamar, the Marbrand children grew. Jeyne was the mere age of nine when she was accepted in the noble courts of Saltstone, where she formulated close relations with one of the Vimmark daughters. Meanwhile, Jon trained fiercely in the dismal and dark alleyways of Alamar, his sword skill developing over the years.

After an expanse of six or so years, the Marbrand Fleet was at last, complete. Geralt stood proudly upon the polished ebony decks of his esteemed Sea Lion, his stony face frostbitten and callused. It had been a difficult journey, yet finally, his ambitions were complete.

In the midst of a violent and unruly winter, a flame flickered  about upon the swaying docks of the port. A band of brigands had conceived a dark hatred toward the Marbrand family, for they had supposedly cheated them in matters of trade. The brigands scaled the shadowy docks, their gazes fixed upon the monstrous fleet gently swaying upon the glacial surface of the sea. That night, the bay was ablaze with fire and smoke.

Geralt assembled his men upon the upper deck of the Sea Lion, an uneducated bunch of green boys, deckhands, and shipwrights , placing tridents and fish spears in their callused hands. As the two galleys either side of the Sea Lion exploded with a marvellous show of fiery tongues and flurries of blazes, Geralt charged.

Jon burst came charging down the snowy mountainside atop his northern destrier, his castle forged longsword held high in the frigid and night air. Jory and his two cousins made up the vanguard riding down from the western ridges, them accompanied by their longbows and dirks.

Two more dromonds caught alight, an amber rain of embers brought down upon the fishing port. The brigands were defeated in a swift stroke of an untimely summoning of other Marbrand forces, yet not without cost.

The entirety of the Marbrand Fleet was lost to the flames, as was the dutiful patriarch.

Alamar was no longer a home, more so a grave reminder of the lives and accomplishments lost at the stormy bay. Jory left the North for the capital, his sister and brother deciding to stay within the comforts and defenses of Saltstone by the Sea. Jaryd and Jasyn fled to places unknown, and the adolescents’ parents were left to grow old and weary within their charred homes within their fishing village.

As time went on, Jory grew up to be a confident and proud young man. He entered the noble services of Charles Horen, where he ascended to become lord steward and seneschal of Lorraine and Kaedrin.  The new patriarch then rose to be castellan of  the barren barony of Senntisten, rallying the Marbrand banners once more. Jeyne and Jon were then drawn to the new steady home their brother had established, Jaryd and Jasyn also were attracted to such.

As Jory grew into a dutiful young adult, he abandoned his titles and holdings in the Empire to follow his liege ever so devotedly to the foreign lands of Vandoria. There, he swore his allegiance to King Nafis Yar, where he was risen to Baron of Marbrand. Jory erected the river keep of Marford soon after his ascent to nobility, him now a prominent figure within the vassal kingdom. Jory wed his childhood lover, Sigjira Faolain, and over the course of several years, they conceived five children.

With the death of Nafis Yar, the departure of Charles Horen, and the new King John Godfrey Horen, Jory was promoted to Count of Riverford. Jory then governed the riverlands justly, sitting at his high table whilst his family grew up about him.

The riverlands and the Marbrand dynasty entered a long time of peace and humility, their coffers rising in coin and their commonfolk pleased with the current state their lands were in.

Sigjira, the fierce mother, had then been savagely murdered by an Olog. Only a few months after such an unruly death, the eldest son and heir of Jory Marbrand passed in an untimely fire.

The family entered a time of mourning and Jory suffered from severe depression and anxiety. He could no longer think clearly at times, and his health began to slip away.

Jory Marbrand soon passed at the infamous event of the Red Feast, him weakened by his psychological and physical illnesses.

With the death of the patriarch, the riverlands entered a time of peril, the commonfolk dissipating and the family being lost about the realm.

After several years of a desperate search for her family, Lopkaea Marbrand, the second born daughter of Jory Marbrand, located her last surviving brother, Jerrik. After several diplomatic discussions with the Governor of the Province of Erochland, Petyr Barbanov, Lopkaea had at last found a new home for her family, Greywater Watch. Jerrik Marbrand ascended to Lord of Greywater Watch, his devoted sister, Lopkaea, serving as Lady Regent until he came of age to rule himself.

The holdings and people of Riverford were then abdicated to Jory’s dutiful cousin, Jaryd Brightwater, who had then conceived a cadet branch of the Marbrand dynasty.

The ancestral lineage of Marbrand then took an unlikely turn, the noble cadet branch of Brightwater being conceived. Jaryd Brightwater introduced himself to the kingdom of Vandoria, where he then took it upon himself to govern the riverlands in the absence of a lord.
