Dankmar grew up in the city of Johannesburg among the Heartlanders. Growing up, Dankmar was an only child who worked and helped his father at his smithy. When Dankmar was six, his mother grew ill from a plague that was being spread around country. Over the course of 2 months, he had to watch as his mother slowly withered and eventually passed away from the illness. Over the following 10 years, he worked tirelessly with his father to provide weapons for the city and to make a living. One fateful night, Dankmar overheard his father arguing with a group of men. They wore torn capes and tattered clothing but they all seemed like very villainous people. He heard his father mention something about the purpose for the weapons he had crafted for them, and something just didn't lay well in his gut. Following the argument, the men left. The next morning Dankmar awoke alone in his house. His father was never seen again. Dankmar sold the blacksmith to a honorable neighbor who he knew would do the city well with it in his hands and vowed to find the people who took his father. He spent the next few years tracking rumors of people matching the descriptions he described and eventually was led to Hallowvale. Although Dankmar practiced throughout his travels, he knew was ill-equipped and skilled to deal with a mercenary group alone, so he recruited some younger lads from a near bye Highlander camp who were already weary of the group being so close.  Together, they banded together and staked out the encampment until they found they group they were looking for and stalked them for many days until they were sure they could not be discovered. Under the guise of night, the group set upon the mercenaries and killed all cept one, the leader who Dankmar recognized. Dankmar inquired about his father, only to confirm what he had known in his heart for so many years, his father was dead.

For many years after, Dankmar wandered the countryside aiding those less fortunate and in need when it came to bandits and criminals. He could never return to Johannesburg as he no longer held any property or stature there. Over the years, Dankmar became like a machine, and spent his time alone. He helped those who he deemed needed help, sometimes to his misfortune. His purpose in life no longer known, aspirations squandered. He journeyed from one side of the country to the other encountering many rebel and villainous groups only to quell them. Many times he felt like a part of him was ripped out when he failed to save someone, but he soldiered on. The only thing he knew now was vengeance for the less fortunate and he wandered and helped, but never taking thanks or staying in one place too long until he no longer knew who he was inside...
