What is roleplaying?: To assume the role of a fictional character and act it.

What is metagaming?: Using information of the world and characters that one’s own character doesn’t know in their advantage. (Bob has memorized entire encyclopedia of LotC and uses this information when roleplaying)

What is power-emoting (powergaming)?: Forcing an action on someone else’s character without making an attempt (Bob swings an axe. It is super effective and instakills vs. Sweat runs down Bob’s chin as he swings the axe high, ready for a blow). Also overpowered character portrayals (Can kill 10 enemies at snap of a finger) and impossible actions (unrealistic mobility for armored knight) are considered powergaming.

Valentin Aamot was raised by his uncle, Henkel, who served the Courlands in city watch of Vsevograd. Valentin was an offspring of a foot soldier who deceased seven years after the conquest of War Uzg and a mother who disappeared after giving birth. Although he was born as an unwanted child, his uncle became a father figure to him. As a man of duty, Henkel made sure that Valentin received basic Heartlander education and in addition taught him fundamentals of swordfight and survival. Valentin was a well-behaved child who took his uncle's teachings to heart.

 

Following the end of Orenian Empire, Henkel was restationed in Aleksandria to assist in its construction. Valentin, who was strong for his age, assisted an elder stonemason in his work. He was clumsy and not built for the task yet he became a stonemason apprentice when the final brick of the city was laid. His days were filled with sweat and hard work but it was enjoyable simple life. Henkel was enlisted to fight for Courland in its conflicts so Valentin spent these years alone.

 

Valentin practiced stonemasonry in Aleksandria until 1606 when he took his master test. As fates would have it, he failed. He concluded that stonemasonry wasn’t in his veins as his family had practiced the art of combat. As advised by his uncle, Valentin set out to discover his calling. This time he encountered a cart that followed a route to the Westerlands.

 

Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?)

He is soft-spoken and calm individual which can be a surprising first impression considering his towering build. Although a stonemason apprentice, he is naturally clumsy with his hands and has never learned to hold a bow. While he doesn’t dislike literature, it could be said that he is a very simple man. He enjoys a well-structured day-to-day schedule.

 

Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?)

He aspires to follow his uncle’s footsteps and join a military faction – be it a city guard or a sellsword company.

 

Strengths/Talents: (what is your character really, really good at?)

He is adequate stonemason and strong with his hands. While not experienced to survive on his own in the wilderness, he has good survival instincts.

 

Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?)

Not skilled with bow. Lacks strategic mind of a soldier. Fails at most things that require good eye-hand coordination. 

 

Appearance: (what does your character look like?; how tall are they?; hair color?; scars?)

He has characteristic strong Hanseti body of 230lb and looks down at his peers at over 6 feet. He has high blue eyes and thick dark brown hair. He has no scars but his hands are often bruised due to his clumsiness.
