Touchmarks are what signifies a craft as an individual’s workmanship. They are small symbols that a smith will impress into their metal, like an anvil or a sun, in order to claim they crafted the work. It speaks on behalf of the crafter, proof of handiwork and performance before even testing the steel itself; a mark of pride for metal to bear the touchmark of renowned blacksmiths.
