It had been a difficult week for the soldiers of the Empire. Constant victories left them showered with the loot of war, and a great many men had ruined their fine new uniforms with blood. It was evident that the petty raids of the Sedanite insurgents would soon lead to disaster, for the Imperial storehouses had not been built to store the copious amounts of equipment and spoils gained from the conflict thus far. Therefore, all generals and statesmen alike heaved a sigh of relief upon the Sedanites ill-timed declaration of rebellion. It was quite an odd thing, the gentlemen in the war room thought, to attempt secession after a defeat, but at least the matter was no longer to be danced around. The time for war had come, and the Imperial State Army, having proven itself in the preliminary skirmishes, had now begun its full mobilization. 

 

Oh it was a grand spectacle, one out of a story, to see the gallant men and women of the Empire exit the gates of Providence to fight the Sedanite scourge! Cannons were assembled, equipment was distributed, and all soldiers held their heads high, for there was no greater cause to fight than the one of justice. The insurrection in South Arentania would be a quick affair, hardly greater than the summer wars of ages past, and the Emperor’s Peace would be restored throughout the realm. The de Joannes traitors and the cabal that followed them would soon face the hammer of the Empire, a fate that too many had foolheartedly sought to challenge. The Sedanites had denied law, denied God, denied the will of the Emperor, and now they denied good sense, having thrown their lot in with Lady Luck in the vain hope she would prove their savior. A gamble of the ages, it would be, yet like most gambles it would soon prove to be naught but a loss of all they had put on the line.
