The man returned - and with him a large parchment. He came, bearing a portent of past and present. The words were so written - in the same ink as was before, except for some words that were transcribed in darker letters, while the name of God, was made with newly acquired gold, inscribed and so laid meticulously by the scribe upon the table, who had muttered holy incantation and prayers unto the very piece. Then, was nailed the very thing to the door of the imperial court of law - third, standing amongst its brothers in faith.

ARUS VOS SANCTUS, OREN

The Book of Horen 1 - 27

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1. Lo, in the name of the Lord GOD the Most Merciful, Singular, and Omnipotent, listen and attend with pious heed to this inspired text.

2. So the Sons were raised up as kings, and each became more concerned with the World than the Skies.

3. ALL TOOK CONCUBINES, except for Horen, who took only one wife.

4. Her name was Julia, and they kept their union holy.

5. Now Iblees had suffered in the VOID for an age, avoiding the grace of GOD, for he doubted the Lord even as he fled Him.

6. He saw that the Sons BECAME MORE WORLDLY, AND THAT THEY SPOKE WITH GOD EACH LESS DAY

7. Even Horen spoke less of the Lord to his brothers, but kept his holiness private.

8. So Iblees saw that the brothers were WEAK, and he ascended the emanations of glory, though he was loathe to feel the grace of GOD.

9. It came that the four brothers and their tribes dispensed themselves so:

10. Malin and his tribe went into the forests, and there they lived freely among the trees.

11. Urguan and his tribe went into the mountains and caves, and lived in orderly stone homes.

12. Krug and his tribe went into the desert and slew the creatures therein, and they made tents of hide, and fought contests of strength and cunning.

13. Finally, Horen and his tribe built homes of wood and cloth in the plains, and they built temples of stone, and had many children.

14. But like Iblees, Horen also felt the SEPERATION OF GOD FROM MAN.

15. Horen feared to be without GOD, so he prayed, and received a message.

16. The Lord told him to go into the Grotto of Gamesh, which was many leagues’ walk from the land of Horen’s people, and to fast in the waters for three days.

17. So Horen submitted, but was wise first, for he felt the presence of Iblees in the world.

18. He went to his people and described to them the Denier’s aspect, and advised them to cast him out when he appeared.

19. Thus informed, Julia went into her family’s tent, their holy tabernacle, and she gathered their three sons.

20. She bade them to remain in the tabernacle as she walked the camp, looking for Iblees.

21. So Horen went into the east, and followed the path ordained for him. Iblees observed his absence, and went into the camp of Horen’s people, and began to TEMPT them.

22. But Julia was wise and recalled her husband’s warning.

23. She revealed Iblees, and the Denier was cast out of the camp, and he was very wroth.

24. So Iblees went out of the land of Horen’s people, and set to working iniquity among the other brothers.

25. He went into their camps in other guises, TEMPTING THEM WITH SIN, and said THE LORD WOULD PARDON THEM.

26. So the Sons of Malin, and of Urguan, and of Krug were wary, but DID NOT WISH TO REJECT THE SOFT BEDS AND GOOD WINES THEY WERE OFFERED, nor the finely worked jewelry.

27. ALL REVELED AND LAZED AND LAY WITH EACH OTHER, AND CALLED IT FAITH.

And so there stood the parchment. The man crossed himself, and turned, leaving. On the first of the parchments still remained his signature, visible, worn as it might be    ~ Jean
