THE PONTIFICAL ELECTION OF 1886

THE CARDINAL CONCLAVE OF TYLOS III

 

The time had come. The Holy Father, Tylos III had been laid to rest beneath the ground and now the College of Cardinals found themselves once more locked within the Basilica of Saint Heinrik. There by the altar, an immaculate box sat with slits on its top allowing for the gathered cardinals to insert their votes.

 

There were four gathered clerics of various nationalities and backgrounds. They sat across from each other, each with a blank white paper, ink and a quill. The four clerics were Viktor Cardinal Nescia, Katerina Cardinal Jorenus, Armand Cardinal Allobrogum and Adrian Cardinal Albarosa.

 

The Vice-Chancellor Adrian rose and moved towards the ballot box and spoke a prayer to the College,

 

“Heavenly Creator, walk with us as our mediator and judge to endow us with a sound mind and contrite heart in the election of the next Pontiff. Grant, we pray, that by your infinite wisdom and omnipotence that whomever is chosen shall reflect your mercy, compassion, strength, and duty in the exercising of this great Holy Office. This we ask in prayer, in the name of all Aenguls, all saints, and of the universal church, Amen.”

 

The Vice-Chancellor then traced the Lorraine cross, signalling for the voting to begin.

 

No more than an hour had passed and all four cardinals had placed their votes. It was then that the Vice-Chancellor rose once more and opened the ballot box and counted the votes. He returned the slips back into the box and closed it, beckoning the College to come forth and see for themselves the results of the election.

 

They all knew who the successor was and what was now necessary for them to do. The successor of the Church would need to be enthroned the next Saint’s Day in the Basilica of Saint Heinrik.
