Of Magic and Medicine, 264 S.A.

From the Office of the Imperial Liaison

IN LIGHT OF RECENT EVENTS, it has become apparent to me that I must pen some clarifications and provide new guidance regarding the conduct of users of magic within the Imperium.

THE IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF MAGIC, of which I sit as the de facto leader, is the head governing and overseeing body for the usage of voidal magics within the Empire of Man. Thus, it falls to me to make decisions regarding overall policy, purpose, use, etcetera, in matters of the arcane. Solely in matters of the arcane - it would be ill-advised and foolish of me to attempt to go beyond my station, and tell the other leaders of other institutions the decisions they ought to make in their administration of whatever facet they have been charged with leading.

THE IMPERIAL OFFICE OF MEDICINE, headed by Her Imperial Excellency, Andromède de Medford, stands as a similar institution. Theirs is the realm of healing and medicine, and thus all matters pertaining to such naturally fall under their purview.

BY HER AUTHORITY, Lady Andromède has enacted an overall prohibition on usage of ‘magicks’ within medical practices in her well-read and disseminated Imperial Proclamation. I place full trust in her wisdom in doing so, as the art of Physick is her area of expertise. With such trust in her wisdom, and with my own authority as Imperial Liaison and with my own expertise on Magick and the Arcane, I do hereby proclaim the following:

ABSOLUTELY ZERO VOIDAL MAGIC IS TO BE UTILIZED FOR MEDICAL PRACTICES, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHATSOEVER.

To go even further in support of our fellow Institution’s vision, I also recommend the following:

No user of magic should seek to practice medicine in any form. It ought to be left solely to those licensed by the Imperial Office of Medicine to deal with. Indeed, I believe Lady Andromède to be wise in her published restrictiveness to allow magi to obtain such licenses, and thus I do recommend that all practicing voidal mages simply remove themselves from such an environment, as their presence surely invites only wanton trouble and medical malpractice.

DO NOTE, however, that this ban and recommendation extends solely to those lands whom place themselves under our purview when it comes to matters of magic, as at the moment we generally limit our authority to the heart of the Imperium and leave the governance and management of magic outside of the Imperial Heartlands to be something that falls within the autonomy of those realms. That said, I cannot say with any degree of certainty whether or not the licensure system of the Imperial Office of Medicine applies to lands such as Petra or Idunia, or if they are allowed to handle their own systems of medicine and licensing of physicians and healers (though it may be wise for them to accept Lady Andromède wisdom and leadership in such). The Imperial Office of Medicine ought to be contacted should one wish for clarification on their realms ability to self-manage such.

THERE ARE SURELY MAGI READING THIS who shall gasp and be confused, saying something such as “But, surely, if we are using our magic in a positive way, for the healing of others, for the saving of lives, this is acceptable, is it not? I do not want my inaction to cause a preventable death!”

To these individuals I say: Fret not!

Firstly, rules are rules, and the rules of a license to practice medicine are absolute and definitive.

Secondly, though, and perhaps more important to keep in mind: to be a doctor, physician, or healer of any kind is to accept the responsibility for the lives of all those whom you seek to treat. And Her Imperial Excellency, Lady Andromède, in her role as the Imperial Master Physician, thus does nobly accept the responsibility for all those who seek care under the domain of her Institution, whatever the outcome of their ills and injuries may be. For her willingness to lighten our shoulders of such a weight, we do thank her.

TO HER IMPERIAL EXCELLENCY, ANDROMÈDE DEY MEDFORD (@TheIchorDruid), I wish to offer a personal apology for recent events, and failure to ensure those whom I work alongside have adhered to your methods. I do hope that this decree in support of your own opinion on the place of magic and mages within medicine, this written apology, and the blood of the four who were executed in conclusion to this ordeal, might bring you some peace of mind.
