The hunt

"Hunt something either your size, or bigger than you."

That is what ran through the elfess mind as she clung to a tree, out in the savanna.. but to understand the situation she was in. Let's go back a bit..

The elfess had started out hunting ox's, she started out following their tracks, their path led towards a waterhole, being ever so careful so as not to spook the animals she was hunting. It was going well, not a sight of predators, not even the smallest hare. She thought little to nothing of it.. in hindsight she should have taken that as a warning in itself.

She heard what sounded like alligator bellows, but this wasn't an alligator, it was far from their natural habitat. a crocodile, that must be it thought to herself, being near water she knew it made sense, a perfect area for crocs to reside and hunt prey.. as she looked to the waterhole, she noticed it.. an ox heard, she steadied herself, she knocked an arrow in her bow as she took a deep breath drawing it back. "Just.. behind the shoulder blade.." she took aim.. waiting for the perfect shot.. but as the perfect shot arrived she heard it, a singular footstep behind her. As she turned to face it, she was face to face with a Drogokroko, this beast was bigger than her.. she took a deep breath as she started to back up, the Drogokroko hesitated.. and ava took that as her sign to run, and run she did.. 

But it lept, it's jaws seeking to end this hunt as fast as it possibly could, hoping to take the elfess head off in one singular bite.. but this leap was useless, she dove to the side of a tree, seeking to hide from this beast she would quickly scamper up the tree thinking she was going to wait it out.. but this Drogokroko had other plans..

it started throwing itself against the tree. the tree was strong, but the tree could only take so much damage as it started to lean with every hit.. one hit, two, three, the forth would knock her out of the tree as she landed on the back of this beast, it started bucking going to throw her off, she had no time to react, this was a predator, it had earned it's spot in the food chain by it's tenacious ability to hunt and kill.

The elfess clung to the spikes on its back  they were there to defend the creature but as of now it was keeping Ava far away from the mouth of this beast so desperate to eat her.. if she got close to the mouth it meant almost certain death.. everything seemed to slow down for a split second when she lost her grip on the spikes.. she was sent forward lading on her side and sliding a few inches..

She pulled herself up as she realized they had gotten close to the ox herd and they were not happy, stampeding towards the Drogokroko and herself she would get out of the way of the herd as she grabbed a spear and shield she stashed earlier just in case.. the Drogo waited patiently.. once the herd passed,  it started slinking slowly towards ava as she got ready.  she raised the shield and spear as it swiped at her, it broke the spear instantly, it's sharp claws dragged across her arm tearing it open.

She tried to block the next as it slapped the shied out of her grip.. she pulled a ironwood dagger.. it was her last hope..

The Drogokroko swiped again, tearing the elfess chest.. she would be bleeding like a stuck pig, she watched as this beast lunged at her again, she raised her dagger up she didn't recall the feeling of the dagger sinking past it's chest, the bone.. all she felt was the weight of this monster slamming into her and pinning her to the ground, limp.
