Greatness

Spoiler

My greatness like chickadees looms overhead

My fame has preceded me not

As moss in the forest's my name's among men

They passeth me by without thought

I watch from the byways their urgent advance

Down trails they believe that they blaze

I amble my way down the quieter paths

For mine are the subtler ways

Moon Poem II

Spoiler

Though partially in silver draped,

Across the terminator line

Lies obscured to me landscape

Alight to other suns than mine

She turns away when I would cast

My rays on undiscovered ground

'Till I begin to doubt, at last,

Our orbits are together bound.

History and I

Spoiler

We have a mutual understanding

History, that is, and I

I won't be as her lord commanding

Nor she be as mine

We've both our separate notions,

Hers which change from day to day

Mine are quaint and quite eccentric

When they do not go her way

She grants great benedictions

On those she makes her thrall

Her masters shake the heavens

Till she discards them all

The Kings

Spoiler

The Kings of Haense were mighty men

And fearsome was their crown

They fought for Prophet Sigismon

And put the schism down

Their palace walls were scarlet hued

Their roads were crimson red

And red the banner that they flew

And red the blood they shed.

They reigned amidst the ice and snow

Where cold and hard their hearts had grown

Until a flame on temple mount

Had called their monarch to account

The Kings of Oren reigned supreme

And set their splendid throne

Oe'r mount and plain and sea and stream

And cities, church and home

Their citadel was white as death

They powdered wig and face

They spent their vast collected wealth

To hide their inner place

They kept their darkness close concealed

Till rays of providence revealed

No gilding mortal kind can make

Could form authentic gold from fake

To Ledicort de Senna

An Elegy

Spoiler

And I recall those golden days

Of terror, blood and zeal,

When reared the crowns of Canondom

To crush us under heel

When dreadful, countless, senseless

Stood their Carrion force arrayed

We stood fast on our mountain

And we took up arms, and prayed.

And the Mercyflame was with us

While Horen's sons were not

And the Tzadek's benedictus

Which we long have since forgot

For greater, deeper darkness

More confounding than the last

Upon our day of victory,

And all the world, was cast

And through the age nocturnal

We grasp and crawl our way

And another light from Lemon Hill

Has flickered out today.

God of Owyn

A Hymn for the Establishment
of the Empire of Mankind

Spoiler

God of Owyn come and weave us

As a Laurel us entwine

Every branch Thy grace sustaining,

In a living crown combine

Hardened we in gnarled armature

Barren, dry and brittle grown

Make us fertile, vital, limber,

Ply our shapes into Thine own

God of Harren, come ignite us

With Thy bright preserving flame

Make our cold, corrupted embers

Shining, warm and pure again.

Smothered in our own indifference

Breathe your enlivening spirit o'er

Make of all our faults a kindling

Keep us burning forevermore

Tanith Vursur buys a copy of the poetry book and makes a mental note to have her son autograph it later!
