Crystals 2 Share Posted January 15, 2012 Out-Of-Character: Minecraft Account Name: CrystalsGem Did you attend minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth?: At that moment in time, I did not have the funding for travel expenses so I did not attend. How old are you?: Currently seventeen years old, however my birthday will be coming up close. Time-Zone/Country of Residence: United Kingdom, England, North East. Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I would say so, however I'll allow the application attendant decide for themselves by reviewing my application. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm currenlty planning on joining my local college, I have several subjects that I plan on taking but for now I'm happy volunteering my time at the local community centre and working at the local youth club. I'm interested in several sports including football (soccer), golf and rugby. One of my hobbies is gaming in general and one day I aspire to work in the gaming industry, although from what I know it is a very stressful area to work in. I'm a big fan of Minecraft and I've been playing for some time, I've owned several accounts although I've given some of them away to my friends who cannot afford MC. How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Week days I'd be able to spare three to six hours dependant on my mood and schedule at the time. However during the weekend I have a large amount of spare time. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.: Roleplaying means a lot of things to people I've had a discussion with on the topic of roleplay. For myself I'd say roleplaying is taking the role of a certain character and playing him out. Indulging yourself in your character's dirty secrets, habbits and plots. But that can depend entirely on the character that you're roleplaying at the time. Roleplay isn't just about typing out some lines of text and going on; it's about creating a living, breathing person in this world who has emotions and senses of his surroundings. It's about becoming your character to the extent that he isn't some form of superhero who can shrug off seeing an entire family being butchered by a flock of wolves. In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are. Metagaming is to take information you've gained by OOC means, and using it in an IC form to better oneself. An example would be if I browsed the forums and found an OOC thread which directly shows me the location of a (for example purposes) 'secret' village that nobody should know the exact location to. But I would use my OOC knowledge to guide my IC player to the location without any form of flaws in guiding himself, even though he would have no knowledge on the village's existance. One of the top forms of powergaming that I believe is when you roleplay another person's actions, without their permission. An example of this would be if me and Bob began a roleplay scene and Bob placed a blade to my neck, demanding my coin purse. For me to powergame out of this scene, I'd simply RP that Bob for no reason at all, turned the blade on himself and stabbed into his carotid artery. This would be unjust and wrong on many levels. Another common form of powergaming would to give your character some form of power that would give him an unfair advantage over other players, even though if it would be stated he couldn't have that power. What do you expect this server will be like?: From word of mouth, I'm expecting many options to choose from so that my character can develop in a way I feel best suited for him, while still being able to interact with other players. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I often host my own freeform server so my friends and I can build our structures and show them off to one another. Although other than that, I haven't played many other servers that's active/online enough to enjoy. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have read the rules and agreed to follow them. How did you hear about us?: I was refered to the forums by Hoovie. Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you? I have voted, however I'm unsure how to obtain my vote number. | Votes: 1827 | Score: 3,507 | What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?: Crystals In-Character: Character Name: Loxley Brainbarge. What is your Race?: Human. Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): The Brainbarge family can follow their family blood line all the way back to Lavandros Brainbarge the very first Brainbarge family member, formed by the uniting of two families by the act of marriage; the marriage of Hovos Brain and Luxius Barge. The Brainbarge family is known for being well accustomed with the act of commerce and trade, many of the family members spending their entire adult life in trading caravans earning their fortunes so they may continue this form of lifestyle, while also sending back their profits to the family household. Although the Brainbarge family has now whittled down to a mearge number of sixteen family members ((four of these will be people playing as the characters themselves)), many of them in caravans and several back at the family household raising the Brainbarge children. However there are several exceptions to the Brainbarge trader lifestyle where some of the offspring go on to become farmers; healers; adventurers and, although unfortunate, a few have become bandits. One of these rare occurrences was Loxley Brainbarge, son to Havald Brainbarge and Mary Longjaw, who although was trained in the art of "buying for low and selling for high" moved on to join a small mercenary company, believing the usual Brainbarge lifestyle to be boring and predictable. Loxley worked as a mercenary for six years of his life until the Ji'Voark company went to war with the Mormont company, who Loxley was at the time contracted with, leading to the death of many of his comrades, leaving only himself and his good friend John Perish remaining. At this present day Loxley is working as a form of protector of a group refugees who are now planning the formation of a town. He has sent word to his family's household that he wishes for them to join him. Loxley would be a thirty two year old male with greying hair, which is acustomed to males in the Brainbarge gene. Although educated, Loxley's many years of service in a mercenary group has led Loxley to growing a temper and becoming an impatient. Although kind at heart and more than willing to assist in tasks, this would usually end in atleast some form of payment for his services. Your characters ambitions: Loxley has experienced many years of combat and although he is considered rather young he still has recollection from his childhood of many lessons in trade. From this, Loxley only wishes for peace and quiet as he spends the rest of his days with his family, hoping to open an establishment one day in the far-future. Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do? Although trained in combat and having many years of experience, he simply doesn't wish to die from such foolish actions as being a hero. So this would conclude Loxley's first initial reaction would be to remain undiscovered from the three; to watch the combat pan out and detect the bandit's weak spots and their combat ability. If they appear to be novices who have barely weilded a blade; Loxley would intervene, using his knowledge of the targets to wound them or inflict enough damage to make them retreat; prefering not to spill more blood than what is needed. Your character walks up to a shop in the middle of Al'Khazar. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer? Loxley would nod his head to the merchant before approaching him with a wide smile. "Good day, I've been travelling for several days now and I'm currently running low on food, I've been wonderin' if you've got anything to sell that can fill up the stocks? I've got money and I can pay you a fine price." Dependant on the response, Loxley would always try to negotiate a better price for himself before accepting the deal, unless ofcourse the offer on the table was ludicrous.
