Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

Sentatus

How old are you?:

14

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

UK/GMT

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I am a casual gamer, who stumbled across Minecraft and have loved it ever since. I enjoy video games, books, and other intellectual pursuits.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

About an hour a day, more on weekends.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Roleplaying for me is a chance to be another person entirely, in a different world entirely. I greatly enjoy roleplaying games (The Elder Scrolls series is my personal favorite) and this server looks excellent.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

As I mentioned before, I am a big fan of roleplaying games. I have played many RPG video games, and spent time on several RP SMP Servers as well, so I know how Minecraft roleplaying operates.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-Gaming is acting in-game according to out-of-game knowledge. This can be disruptive in roleplaying experiences for everyone, because the point is that your character acts as if he/she were real, and not as if he/she was just an avatar. Actions which are based on outside knowledge rather than what your character would actually do is Meta-gaming.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power-gaming is exploiting the stats systems of RPGs to get unnaturally powerful characters whilst ignoring other important aspects of the game, such as the roleplaying itself. This is irritating for other players who are trying to play the game properly, and power-gamers may be perceived as "noobs" for their lack of understanding of how RPGs are meant to be played.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

I expect that it will be a rather large community (as your server can accomodate 300) of players playing Minecraft in a fantasy setting. Minecraft + fantasy. What's not to like?

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I left Romecraft because it was too slow; very little going on and few people ever online. I tried playing on Minekraft Factions but there was too little anti-griefer support there, so I left that too.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Yes.

How did you hear about us?:

I heard from a friend who plays on the server.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

No, what is Minestatus?

In-Character:

Character Name:

Malvegil son of Thorion

What Race are you?:

Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Southeron

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Malvegil was born into a minor noble family of one of the Kingdoms of Man. His mother died in childbirth so his father was his only parent. From a young age, he proved to be exceptionally bright and well-suited to the intricacies of human politics. He became his father Thorion's chief advisor and administrator at the age of 12. As a child, Malvegil spent most of his time inside, as he was very shy and the other children mocked him for his mother's death; it was considered unlucky and a curse. Nonetheless, he led a happy life until tragedy struck when Thorion was killed while hunting. Whether it was accident or murder is unknown, but fould play is suspected for reasons that will soon become clear. However, Malvegil did not take his father's place, as was his birthright.

The night after his father's demise, a man came in the night to kill him, that the lordship might pass to an ambitious relation rather than a boy. (Malvegil believes that the man was hired by the usurper, and has sworn to avenge his father's death.) Malvegil escaped, fortunately, and fled to the slums of the city to hide and take on a new identity. Thus, for 13 years he went by the name Alarios Denemer. He sought out a place where people such as himself were welcomed, and found the University of the city to be such a place. Here he learned the various races' languages and customs, so he is at home amongst dwarves, elves, or men. He also learned of the arts of war and leadership, which he would rightly have learned from his father; and he learned of the arcane, the study of magic and spirits and light and dark. After he spent several years working as an apprentice to the scholars, he departed with a small amount of gold; enough to travel the realm. This is exactly what he intends to do. He is a man of great ambition and is determined not to let the calamities which have befallen him stand in his way.

He is 27 years old, of average human stature, with fair hair and blue eyes. He very intelligent and able to do well in most fields, whether leading an army or running a business. Although physically fit and healthy, he prefers to study than to fight. Having said that, he is also a man of duty and knows that when the war drums are beaten people such as him must step forth to lead the banners.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

Malvegil still grieves for the loss of his previous life, and has vowed to restore himself to his former position of influence. How he will do this he has not decided; however, the wealth and opportunity of Aegis consoles him that there is hope.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

Axe. It can provide wood, which is one of the most versatile resources available.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Malvegil learned the arcane arts during his time at the University, so is quite skilled in Magic.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Malvegil dislikes fighting and much prefers diplomacy. However, when an apparently innocent life is in danger, he knows that violence is necessary. He draws his sword and charges the bandits, fighting alongside the halfling until both the marauders have fallen. He then helps the halfling into the cottage and tends to his wounds before setting off again, having gained a friend.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"Good morning, sirrah. I would like to see what you have to offer in the way of books." After a short period browsing but finding nothing of interest, Malvegil instead purchases a cask of fine wine (for this he has a weak spot) and leaves after thanking the proprietor.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Malvegil briefly contemplates taking the contents--he looks around furtively, to see if anyone is watching--but then decides against it. Although the hut looks deserted, it may be simply in disrepair, or worse, a trap. And anyway; if he had stashed items of such a value somewhere, he would expect them to be left alone. He leaves without disturbing the chest's items, although mildly curious as to what the hut and the chest were doing out in the wilds anyway.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Malvegil looks cautiously at the traders; they could be highwaymen in disguise, after all. When he has determined that they are relatively safe, he approaches, keeping one hand on his sword-hilt. “Greetings, friends,” he says, eyeing the lead merchant. “I have been travelling for many days and I have nowhere to eat or lay my head. Would you mind if I rested here for a while? I am afraid I have no money, but I would be in your debt.” The merchants agree and Malvegil spends the night with them. Early in the morning he moves on after helping them pack up camp.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Malvegil ignores the offer. Although the prospect of a quick reward is tempting, he would rather leave uncivilized activities like bounty hunting to the mercenaries. Instead, he continues his travels and search for glory elsewhere.

Why did I deny you?

Your definition for powergaming was the type often seen in RPG's. This is not an RPG, this is a roleplaying server.
