Minecraft Account Name:

Dagesh

How old are you?:

31

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Pacific Standard Time/United Sates of America

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

As much as it changes, I believe I do.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I admit that I am jovial; always ready to make a joke or laugh at someone else's. I prefer honesty over sweeping something under the rug, even if the view conflicts with my own. I love to learn.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

It varies on the week but I think I would modestly spend about 10-20 hours a week.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

My definition of roleplaying is stepping outside of your own wants, needs, and desires, and empathetically placing yourself into those same attributes of someone else.

A good roleplayer can take the most vanilla of characters, for example "Jerry the human from Nowheresville", and enjoy living out those experiences as much as "Sir Dragon Dwarf King of the Deepest Deep". That being said, variety can also be the spice of life. Not to contradict myself, but the reason I roleplay is because I don't want to play out washing the dishes or doing the laundry. I roleplay for those moments that would never happen in my own reality. To roleplay is to experience an exciting narrative not my own.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I have roleplayed both tabletop and digitally although the bulk of my experience is on the digital side. I RP'd on Neverwinter Nights for a number of years. I have DM'd although I prefer to simply play.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Well, briefly, it is unfair access to information.

Metagaming involves information outside the realm of a character I experience. For example, Todd the miner may not know that Biff the smith needs more ore. Todd would not go out of his way to bring necessary ore to Biff if he had no reason outside his normal routine. If Biff's player called TOdd's player over the phone and said he wanted more ore and Todd's player brought Biff some ore, with information outside of Todd's realm of knowledge, Todd's player metagamed (with no help from Biff's player).

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

My previous understanding of this definition comes from another type of playing completely. This server considers powergaming in a more tabletop sense. After some reading I understand the following ideas. Producing results without proper roleplay yields power-gaming. When a player assumes that his/her actions automatically succeed without an attempt at the actions, that is power-gaming. This is disruptive to roleplay as it does not allow another player a chance for reaction and it often assumes that a player has automatically succeeded in their attempt. Powergaming allows a player to unrealistically overpower another without roleplaying the event out.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

If the staff has placed as much time preparing and moderating the server as they have preparing the world's background, I can expect to see nothing less than a very detailed and orderly setting with political intrigue and player involvement. From the application process, I can expect other players who are thoughtful and expressive. Overall I expect that people who play here want to be a part of a narrative that is expansive, entertaining, and involving.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I assume you mean other Minecraft servers. Currently I play on a friend-of-a-brother-in-law's-server but it has no back story or any other motivation besides mining and building. I am not exactly "leaving" them but I am looking for an immersive experience in Minecraft apart from the usual "mine...smelt...drop...mine..."

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

I have read the "Law & Guidelines" and I understand, accept, and whole-heartedly agree with them.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

I so promise.

How did you hear about us?:

I heard about you by looking at other minecraft textures. I ran across the "Realism Mod" which mentioned your server. After checking it out, I was sold.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

I have not as of yet. It will help me to actually play the server to do so, methinks. To vote for something I in turn would rather not vote for, I would lie to myself and the server. Though I have high expectations, I would like to maintain integrity.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Qaton Dribbledew

What Race are you?:

Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Halfling

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

For most every other race, growing up much shorter than a corn's stalk can prove one as stunted. For a Halfling, it's the norm. Qaton was very young when Reynard Lycian took power. Growing up on the farms west of the young city of Arethor Qaton was raised to farm, to harvest, and taught which plants to avoid, like his father. Now, it may not seem like a coveted position to you, perhaps, but for Qaton, being the son of a farmer was high praise indeed. The backbone of every population is its food. It was the tutelage of his ol’ man that gave him skills in soil-craft. It was also his father who taught him to throw. His father said that he should be able to defend himself and his family. With practice, Qaton learned to take aim at a distance. He practiced his skills in scaring off the bolder crows.

His family had been affected by the turbulent times as much as any other. His mother was pregnant with Qaton as what was left of the Halfling population fled the comfort of their old Dunwood. Perhaps it was the stress of fleeing and taking up a new life or that her heart was left in the Dun’ but Qaton’s mother did not survive the migration after giving birth to her only child. It was up to his father to raise him. His father, Limmen Dribbledew, did not like speaking about the migration much and even less about his late wife. What information Qaton gathered on life before the Fall of Aegis was sparse to say the least. But like most everyone living in Asulon, his life was no less affected. Perhaps this was the reason for the itching need for wanderlust that often excluded people of his kind. Whenever he began to wonder of other lands, of his people’s old home, of the stories he heard about orcs, elves, and undead, he felt a spark of wanderlust in his heart. If his thoughts carried him away too much he would often have to fight it back telling himself, “A farmer’s feet follows his plow, not his fancy.” It was a Halfling’s way to stay home and so he felt these thoughts betrayed his heritage.

He had barely seen the war when the Hanseti and the Orcs combined forces to attack Renatus but it was mostly a blur. He was taken behind the safety of the walls and kept from seeing any battle. He also remembered many speaking of the Battle of the Boot, but again, he was kept from partaking in such fights as well. Most of the action has been beyond him and it all seems to be a long dream from Dunwood’s peace. Like all dreamers Qaton has secret ambitions and his include starting a new Dunwood where the half-folk can live in quiet and relative peace apart from the bloodshed of his taller ancestors.

Qaton's eyes are the color of a rich red ale, probably from his old Dwarven heritage. His brown hair also has somewhat of the same crimson tinge. He is about eighteen seasons old although no one ever really kept track so he can’t say for sure. Probably from his ancient human ancestry, his skin color is a summered peach and, if he keeps to his diet, should be near as plump. As interested as he is about the outside world, he would be foolish to leave the farm. He knows he has his father, food, home and everything he loves. He is not one for danger. In fact he avoids conflict where he can. Some might label him a coward but he feels he is being honest about his size and abilities.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

Qaton has inherited much from his nurturing heritage. He has a disposition towards kindness and he attempts honesty where he can. Nature has also given him a foreign desire. Being birthed in turbulent times and the passing of his mother, Qaton has an ambitious side. Not one of monetary or political gain, but to bring back the peaceful glory of Dunwood. He sees himself doing what he can to regain what was lost from his half-kin so that they can once again live in peace and that no other Halfling would need suffer the pain he sees in his father’s eyes when someone mentions the migration or his mother. Until then, he does as he is commanded by his father. He farms. He trains in long distance attack. He also continues to foster his need to move. To plant seeds in another field away from this one stained with blood. For now, he digs a place in his heart and buries those strange seeds deep within. Little does he know, the soil is rich and those seeds are beginning to grow.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

His most favorite tool is a toss-up between the fork, as it can be used to both hold meat with its many prongs as well as be used to scoop sauce if properly crafted, and a good hoe that produces perfect rows of earth.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Qaton is most skilled in farming although his ability to strike things from a distance is very near as good.

Other Information about your Character:

Qaton has a bit of a coward’s streak in him. Instead of fight he would be quick to joke any slight away or to simply avoid conflict in general. This a difficult combination with his desire to strike to hard ground where conflict is bound to sprout.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Well he did it. He set out away from the farmland and he struck out on the dusty road. As he travels along, he feels proud and somewhat brave for once. He hears a commotion to his right a ways down his current path. From what he can see, it appears a fellow Halfling is being taken advantage of by two tall-folk. And to make matters worse they are armed. As far as Qaton can see, the Halfling is not. What went from strideful pride on the road suddenly deflates once again to fear and nervousness. “What can I do?” He wonder to himself. “There’s no point in getting involved, they’ll just rob me too.” Conflicted, Qaton slowly moves to a safe place to watch. He wants to help but his nerves keep him in hiding. He looks around for anyone else who might help and there doesn’t seem to be anyone else in sight. Ashamed, Qaton just sits and waits and watches. When the bullies leave, he approaches the Halfling and offers to provide healing for any injuries he may have. He might have something in this inventory to help his kin heal if nothing else. He does not say a word that he watched the whole thing from afar. He feels so humiliated.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Having made it this far from home, Qaton is once again feeling brave. He swaggers up to the merchant and looks him in the eye. He opens his mouth to speak…and says nothing. As his mouth hangs there open like a fly trap, his brain panics. He has never been this far from home. He has no idea what to ask for. “What do heroes ask for?!” Mentally he panics because he can’t seem to find the courage to close his mouth nor can he find any words to say. He simply leans against the stall with his small mouth hanging open as if he were to speak but no words come out. His face begins to turn beet-red and slowly he regains his composure. “I..” The merchant simply smiles at him. “He must be laughing inside at me.” Qaton thinks. “Nevermind.” Qaton walks away from the stall with more bruised pride. “Maybe I should never have left.” He wonders to himself.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Qaton enters slowly into the hut. “It might look abandoned but maybe it’s a ruse.” Finding himself in such dire need to go hunting through abandoned homes and with luck he spies a chest. Nervously he approaches. Sweat begins to bead on his brow. He takes another gander around the hut and out the door and, seeing that the coast is clear, he slowly opens the chest. The hinges creak as it opens and he grimaces at the noise. To his surprise he spots a golden sword and some iron bars. “What luck!” he thinks to himself. He runs the fattest part of his chubby finger along the golden blade and quickly regrets it. He yelps like a pup and brings his blooded finger to his mouth to clear away the blood and sting. “I’m taking too long!” He whispers to himself. As fast as he is safely able he wraps the blade in any extra cloth he has and places the bounty in an extra bag. Carefully he makes his way out of the hut and does his chunky best not to be seen.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Having found himself in such distress, being eaten by the hunger gnawing at his gut, Qaton finds it hard to focus. The fact that this might be a trading camp and that they speak common is lost to all but food and sleep. Even so, his instinct for a full meal kicks in with his nose leading the way. He tries not to be rude to any who greet him but there are more pressing matters, food being the most. After he makes his way to the nearest butcher or baker, he tries to assess his inventory. He wants to plop his whole bag on the counter and take all he can get but that small voice of reason keeps him from being beyond rash. He takes in a deep breath, filling his lungs with wonderful odors, and takes measure of his wealth. Raggedly, he approaches the nearest tradesman and does his halfling best to barter a proper meal. “Do you have food?” He asks. The trader chuckles and nods. Qaton responds, “I would like some food.” What kind of food would you like?” “I uh…” he clears his throat. “What do you have?” Trying not to act the fool, Qaton tries to look dignified and clever about his question.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Standing with others from the village Qaton hears the call for help, “All who assist the guard shall be rewarded.” Qaton scratches his neck nervously knowing that in battle he is next to useless. Suddenly a thought occurs to him. He does want to help but he certainly can’t swing a weapon. “I uh..” He coughs to clear his anxious throat. “I can help but not with arms.” “What good are you?” a guard responds. “I can offer supplies. I have food and drink. I could give you bread that would keep you full all day.” It might not be what they are looking for, but at least he can help. Maybe a reward would be worth some more farm land in the end. Qaton blushes as others around him look in his direction. He did want to help but he would only get hurt and now all these people were looking at him as if he were some sort of weakling. “I’m not weak.” He says aloud. “Speak up!” someone responds. Instead of answering Qaton lowers his face and patiently waits to hear if the guard will accept his offer.
