Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: BigHatMan

How old are you?: Seventeen

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: United States.

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Dunno.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm this like person who like, likes to roleplay and yeah. Ya see, the kids listen to the rap music, and this is two sentences, so good enough.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Kinda sorta not less than 3.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Placing yourself into the role of a character and thinking from their perspective, usually done for casual fun, though some people take it quite seriously and will have a brain aneurism over someone making some joke in roleplay.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: A nice many years in forum roleplay, though Ive done some Minecraft roleplay on single nameless servers with friends.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Using knowledge your character doesn't know in-character as if they know it. Pretty simple.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Forcing actions upon other players or doing something that your character is incapable of doing.

What do you expect this server will be like?: Probably fun until I have to deal with some of the famed 'ragers' Ive heard of.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: For roleplay, none were permanent, all were smaller temporary servers. For other things such as factions servers, Ive played a nice amount.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Sure.

How did you hear about us?: From HappyShackles, Sand_Viper, and Sawses. They invited me to roleplay on some place called 'Navia' before, but I didn't feel like being involved with that many people yet due to the primal rage that tends to engulf others in the face of a challenge. Ive also spoken heavily with a few other players over Skype which has, from many, many conversations, given me much insight to the story of this place.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: No.

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): Stop it.

In-Character:

Character Name: Elijah Basileus.

What Race are you?: Human, around quarter Elf.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Nope.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

[[All individuals that are players have agreed to being in this bio and the actions they take in it. Main reasoning for my character knowing so many is for an easy start on me with how Ive heard it's hard to even start due to everything being regioned.]]

"Sometimes it's nice to live a joke in the place of seeing the real world." -Elijah Basileus.

Elijah Basileus was born to a mercenary family, those who lived to fight for Minas. A mercenary was one who fought for those who payed them Minas, he was raised to be the same way. It was a morally gray life, but it was simple, someone payed them and they protected and fought for them whether it was for a rich bandit lord or a wealthy noble. They only lived for their Minas. This particular mercenary group was known as 'The Clan', it had been founded back in Aegis when mercenaries came together many generations up the line, but many could easily join The Clan as long as they intended to work alongside their family, but just for the Minas.

The Clan was quite a popular mercenary group, which heavily damaged business for other lone mercenaries or bandits who doubled their work as mercenaries, this of course brought the competitive spirit into play, but sometimes people take competition as a threat on their own life. What do these people do to a threat? They get rid of it. This all began before Elijah's birth, The Clans fracturing. One of the cons of a mercenary group, though rare they have to face a threat like this, is how easily lead into a trap they are.

One day The Clan was given a job to help out a raiding party, assumed bandits, they saw nothing wrong with this due to past experience in being hired by bandits to bolster their forces. Unknown to The Clan was that there was something quite wrong. The Clan was suspicious though, the bandit force they met with was smaller than their own force, them normally being a bolster to a larger force. This was shrugged off simply though, that's when they came upon Galahar where they were met with armed assault, the bandits who were with them seemed to practically vanish from their numbers. They were called bandits, The Clan themselves.

The Clan became wanted as a bandit group and last a number of members in the battle itself, they were after vengeance now. Galahar had been tricked by the bandits, The Clan most likely knew this somewhere in their minds, but they were blinded by rage. Among these ranks was the father of our dear protagonist, his name was Demtis Basileus, apart of the fallen noble House of Basileus, one of the few left that were scattered about. He had joined The Clan due to their at least noble seeming nature that they never betrayed who payed them first, he did it for survival and had hoped to keep some of his knightly nature in tact, but this fell away over time.

In the end he practically forgot about his original family, this was his family now. The fighting of course happened, constant strife of Galahar against The Clan, The Clan was seen as mercenaries gone bandit now, having much difficulty surviving, they were in-fact, bandit mercenaries in mind by the end of the battling. Of course, it only ended for a simple reason, the Undead overtaking Aegis, corrupting and destroying it, they fled with everyone else.

The Clan's past conflict with Galahar was basically forgotten by all, even The Clan, but what The Clan didn't forget, was their new nature. What they were now. They had basically embraced the darker side of life. They did have a mix of people among their ranks, Elves, humans, Dwarves, and even an Orc or two. Romance of course could blossom, and so it did between Demtis, the human ex-noble, ex-knight, and the beautiful mercenary half-Elf, Human named Elizabeth.

The lifestyle of the mercenaries over time grew towards how they initially were, but the traits of their new ways of course remained. Though over time Demtis remembered his old ways, picking back up his journal of his old noble House, Basileus. He thought things over and over as time progressed. Though, he and Elizabeth had a child, so this task of getting back to his old ways completely was put on permanent hold. Their son, Elijah, a quarter Elf human was raised in the morally gray ways of a mercenary, learning combat and subterfuge. Though, while his parents taught him simply mercenary ways, this did not stop the other members of The Clan from introducing him to bandits to make friends with.

His appearance now as a man, he was a bit muscular, short hair, black, and he wore a gray bandana over his mouth, a style he had picked up from being raised by The Clan in their current ways. He had a cold look in his eyes, though it wasn’t that of a bloodthirst, but that he could take life with ease. The rest of his outfit was a solid black with dark gray for any straps or other things on it, to his sides were duel hatchets which he used for fighting. He then has hanging to his back usually when he’s not looking through it, his bag where he kept any other various items such as food and other things. He was not pale, but not tan, he spent neither time deliberately in the sun or hiding from it. Generally in his look, though, when meeting someone new or simply watching a crowd, it’s a very studying look, as if he’s sizing the person up. He was an obviously combat ready man.

At this point he was about 27, his human father growing quite old, his mother far behind him, still looking very young due to the blood of an Elf that runs through her. He had befriended individuals at this point, bandits of course, important names to can remember being the bandit lord Prince and the hostile, racist merchant named Cabadath. At this point in time, Prince was the leader of the group that had been named 'The Hallowed Bandits', though Elijah never felt much drive to work alongside them at all. He simply stood back and looked for work so that he could survive in this family.

Many years later The Hallowed Bandits had fallen in a brutal battle, taking the whole of The Clan with it due to being payed to help. Elijah was left with but Minas and something his father had given him just before the battle. A journal explaining his last name, the noble house that had fallen, and the name of a few cast about members. One whose name was spiraling about a bit was Lorethos', he decided to seek him out so he can have a chance at survival, able to maybe work with this relative, or so he at least hoped due to the fact he was now without work.

He met Lorethos. This man was strange in his opinion, helping people in the streets of towns selflessly, fighting for this whole 'knightly code' and such. He learned this from observing the man in Solace as he noticed him in day to day passings, he decided to approach him attempting to greet him in Dawn’s Bakery. He glanced about at the people around carefully a bit, the cold look in his eyes obvious, he took in a deep breath and said aloud to him “Lorethos of the noble house of Basileus?”

[[This roleplay from here is done in a Skype conversation.]]

“...Yes?” Lorethos Basileus says to Elijah, raising an eyebrow as he turns to him. Elijah glances about a bit, examining the others around once more, then takes out a leatherbound notebook, what seems to be a journal, with a vertical crescent moon that has a sword pointing down atop it pressed into the top, the crest of House Basileus. He then tosses it forward, towards Lorethos, onto the table. Lorethos moves his hand across the table taking hold of the book, he then opens it looking it over swiftly and proceeds to look up at the man and ask “Where did you get this?”

Elijah answers him in a casual tone, though without any excitement or friendliness, but not with negativity or hostility, “From my human father, Demtis Basileus.” Lorethos looks at him, shocked, he then says “Demtis? He was my father’s cousin... What is your name? Come, join me at the Keep. The Basileus House belongs together...." He speaks erratically and quickly as he stands, ecstatic to meet another living member. "Thank God you live... What is your name?"

“A home for those of Basileus? That sounds nice, I've been without a home for some months now after my father and mother along with the rest of The Clan fell in a large battle. My name is Elijah Basileus." Elijah says in response to his words. he slightly grins at the thought of a bed to sleep in, this man was quite welcoming, he was family after all, he was a bit glad to be getting a new home after the fallout from The Hallowed Bandits doom.

Lorethos nods slightly and says to himself "Elijah, very good...” then asks “And what is this... 'Clan'?" Elijah responds rather nonchalantly telling him "The Clan has been my family up until now, mercenaries who fought for Minas. I never actually did any jobs even though I was about to start, not much care for Minas personally." Lorethos shudders at the thought of killing for money. He sighs and shakes his head. "So long as you promise me to follow Basileus and it's traditions, you have a home. That means no more fighting for Minas."

Elijah eyes him with a bit of a incredulous look for a moment, unsure of if he wishes for living like that, but he decides he may as well for survival, he then says with a nod "Seems easy enough." From here he met a nice new number of people and got a new home. Those he generally spent his time around was Lorethos, Ambrose, an assassin, Keya, a rather fragile seeming High Elf, and Cabadath, the iron face plated merchant.

What is your Character's ambitions?: At the current moment, he doesn’t have any really other than living. He doesn’t really wish for much and is just aiming for making Minas, drinking at bars, and other casual things to spend his Minas on.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Duel wielded light one-handed axes.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? The natural mix up of lumber-jacking and axe combat, or so I understand that is how it works from what's been explained to me of the skill system. Then for my third, 'lesser' talent, blacksmithing.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format):

Other Information about your Character: Although not noted in the bio, as a mercenary he was trained to use axes and some level of blacksmithing, just like many of the other mercenaries. Along with that, Ive looked over the VA system and understand I can not do any villainous things in roleplay without a VA and will be attempting to get one accepted as soon as I am allowed.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Does my character know them?

If no:

Elijah watches solemnly for a moment before carrying on, this isn’t his business. Not his issue.

If yes, how does he know them?

Dislikes:

He smirks a bit watching this person, glad to see something bad befalling them as they have most likely troubled him. The bandits would most likely warn him to leave, he would give them a nod and walk on.

Is friendly with them:

He would size up the bandits, thinking over the best way to approach. He can’t have this person telling others he just abandoned them in the case he survives. The halfling now sees him and calls out his name, “Elijah!”, he sighs and closes his eyes, annoyed by the foolish action, giving his position away.

Being they’re heavily armed:

He sees they could obviously beat him in this fight due to it being two on one, he asks them calmly “How much Minas to have you walk along as if nothing happened here?”, they respond with a price of 200 Minas for both of them, he takes out Minas and counts them himself, then offers the Minas. The bandits take them and carry on after counting them, glad to see they made some Minas with little hassle.

If they seem easy to dispatch and I have a VA:

From his studying them he can tell with his weapons he can take them both down with ease, he swiftly draws his duel hatchets and rushes to slam his left hatchet into the left bandits throat while making a threatening swing at the other bandit to simply force him away. Able to connect his left hatchet with the unarmored bandits through, he raises his left foot and kicks the bandit’s limp body away at the same time as yanking the hatchet out of his neck. He then holds his hatchets in a defensive position, ready for any strikes from the leather armor bandit. He tries to bring his sword down from above, Elijah counters this by spinning to the side then rushes to take off the bandits head.

After the fight finishes, he makes sure his ‘friend’ is alright then carries on with his business.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

If my character isn’t looking for anything:

Finding it a waste of his breath to talk to the man when he’s after nothing, he only gives him a glance before walking off.

If my character is looking for a specific item, say a new hatchet:

Elijah looks the stall up and down a bit and says “I’m looking to buy a new hatchet, one of mine recently broke due to combat. Would you be able to replace it?” Depending on if he can or not, business ensues.

[[i would think making a new question here would be smart, this question seems useless and almost idiotic, it doesn’t even say your character is looking for anything specific, just that he wandered into the city and ended up at a stall somehow.]]

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

No VA:

He finds this too much trouble to take, both for the fact there could be a witness and its weight. Not only that, he isn’t a swordsman. Why would he need to drag around a heavy gold sword?

Accepted VA:

Seeing the iron bars, he searches the general area for anyone who could be a witness. Finding no one, he proceeds to take the iron bars, he thinks about the gold sword next.

Doesn’t work with anyone:

He has no use for such a thing, so he leaves it behind and continues to his destination.

Works with some group of people or has a partner:

He thinks someone he knows may be able to use the sword, he decides to take it along with him on his travels so he can toss it to them when he gets the chance.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Elijah stares at them for a moment, thoughts registering in his mind, he then glances down at his stomach and looks around. He sees someone cooking over a fire and points towards it then draws out some Minas. They help him to get some food and he pays the appropriate amount for it then asks for directions to the nearest town. From there, now stocked with food, he finds his way back to civilization.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Hearing this, his ears perk up, he then joins up with this group.

He’s friendly with the bandits, no VA accepted:

He decides to back off from this and take a silent leave, he doesn’t want to endanger his reputation by stabbing these people in the back.

Accepted VA:

He grins slightly seeing it’s this group of troublemakers he knows, he backs off from the group and gets behind them. The instant fighting starts, he attacks them from behind helping them out well in the battle.

Doesn’t know the bandits, no VA accepted:

They seem to be winning the fight:

He fights alongside the men in hopes of getting the reward, his lifestyle being based on that of Minas anyway.

They seem to be losing:

He notices the fact they don’t have a chance to win any longer and calls out as much as he can to fall back then takes off running himself. He came for a reward, not to die.

VA accepted:

They win:

Heavy losses:

Elijah sticks back throughout the whole fight, really avoiding even tiring himself out. He sees the hurt and tired men and gets an idea in his head, if he’s the only to come back alive, he gets the reward. He gets to work dispatching these men then returns claiming he’s the only survivor.

Little losses:

He simply carries on with the group and gets the reward then continues in his travels.

They seem to be losing:

Elijah pulls back from the crowd and takes a silent leave seeing there’s no chance for them to win. He figures that they’ll be a good decoy for him to leave with no problems and walks right off. He decides not to return to town expecting there to be a counter attack from these bandits and carries on.

Well keep that rage, and brain aneurism causing trolling to a minimum, and remember despite what Happy may have told you this is not a PvP server, villain aps are meant to be given to people who roleplay well, and in doing so strive bring something enjoyable and dynamic to the server, often as a sacrifice rather than a benefit to themselves. It is not as a license to back-stab people, or permission to antagonise other players.
