Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:Llamastan

How old are you?: 16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: Pacific Standard Time, Canada

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes, English is my first language.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: A grade 10 high school student who excels in academic subjects. Minecraft is my main past time, and I enjoy playing on PVP servers and creating skins. I love all sorts of fantasy and science fiction novels, such as A Song of Ice and Fire and the Culture series by Iain M Banks.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: 40+ hours a week, if I become really dedicated to this server.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is the activity of putting yourself into a character's shoes and acting out their life. It is escaping the real world and becoming a warrior, a mage or a king in a different world. It could take place in a video game or in a real life game such as Dungeons & Dragons. Roleplaying usually takes place with other people who are also roleplaying, who act out various characters. Together, the roleplayers act out a unique story in a plot that they create, in a setting that often does not exist in the real world.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I haven't had a whole lot of experience, however I played very briefly on a minecraft RP server called Fallout: War Never Changes. Also, I have played numerous RPG video games, and dabbled in Dungeons & Dragons. On a PVP server I often play on, I helped add some RP aspects to the community by creating medieval skins for factions on the server and giving an RP theme to my own faction.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: It is when a person uses skills gained from outside the roleplaying setting to gain advantages or knowledge. For example, a young man with no experience of smithing cannot simply obtain 2 diamonds and make a mighty blade. Another example of meta gaming could be if a person is chatting with their friend on the server who lives in a far away area OOC about how they found a castle, and they proceed to go on the server and run straight to the castle. It is ignoring the rules of roleplaying while in a roleplaying setting.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Abusing the game, grinding skills and getting the best armour in order to become the most powerful/l33test person on the server. It is casting aside all roleplaying elements of the game in order to dominate other people and become the strongest person on the server. For example, this could be someone who gets 1000 in every combat skill and a full set of protection 4 armour without any roleplaying reason at all other than to be able to kill everyone.

What do you expect this server will be like?: An immersive experience with a beautiful world. A hugely populated server where I can fit a niche for my character.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: Right now I play on Elysian Kingdoms, a mid sized PVP server. I haven't left it, but I am looking to play about 50/50 on both servers. I decided to look for a different server because our faction is one of the most powerful, we have a giant impenetrable obsidian base and we can't be challenged. There is nothing to do other than just run around our base. I also used to play on a tiny server called MuggerCoast, which I left because few people played.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes, I have read, understood, and agree to the rules. They mostly seem like common sense rules, or rules that exist to enforce a believable RP setting.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes, I promise to abide by all the rules of the server.

How did you hear about us?: By browsing the Minecraft forums, long long ago (when the thread first began). I never got around to posting an application, and eventually got side tracked and joined various other servers, but this one has always seemed interesting to me.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: Nope.

In-Character:

Character Name: Yoren Umber

What Race are you?: Human, although me father once told me that I've got a bit o' dark elf blood in me.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Northerner, through and through.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.)

Are ye sure ya want to know my story? The story of Yoren Umber? It is a gruesome story, full o' betrayal and bloodshed. Ah well, ya might regret askin' me after I'm done, but here it goes. Twenty eight years ago, or somethin' like that,(Me father never did keep track o' me birthday), I was born in a cold, drafty little cottage in the depths o' winter. Me mother died givin' birth to me, and once I was old enough me brother told me he was never the same after she died. We worked hard on the farm, workin' measly little potatoes out of the harsh rocky soil. Our little farmstead was near the castle of Winterfell, deep in the frosty north. But anyways, one day, long before the undead came, our farm got raided by bandits. Me and me father were choppin' wood behind the cottage, while me brother was tillin' the fields. We heard my only brother scream, and rushed to the field. He was runnin' from a bandit mounted on a horse when one of the bandit's buddies shot him in the back with an arrow. My father charged up to the bandit on the horse, woodcutting axe raised, but the horsemen lopped off his head with a single stroke of the sword. I was only ten at the time.

Luckily for me the bandits decided to spare me life. They took me in, taught me how to wield a sword and all the dirty tricks o' fightin'. They always kept a wary eye on me, thinkin' I would try an' take revenge for me family's death, but the truth is, I was happy. The bandit clan became me new family. We raided other farmsteads together, and I even took part in the killing, although me favourite part was when the bandits told me the stories of great battles they had fought. I was still a lad then, but I grew up with the bandits til I was almost a man. Then, the betrayal happened. A fellow had joined us, a couple o' months before it happened. He seemed fair enough, a little bit wary of violence however. One day, after a particularly gruesome raid of a village, he disappeared for what we thought was a huntin' trip. He came back with a troupe of knights, and placed us under arrest for banditry. We were all to be brought to Winterfell and beheaded. Our leader resisted, killing one of the mounted guards, but he was cut down. A fight broke out and I managed to escape, and made my way back to the burned farmstead. I searched the place for supplies, or anything we had missed. I wen't down into a musty ole cellar, and what I found their scarred me. The children of the town had all been slaughtered in secret, while most of us were fightin' the villagers. I had never thought our comrades capable of such cruelty. In the dead eyes of the young I saw me brother's face as he was shot by an arrow. I swore to renounce me evil deeds and try and redeem myself.

(Appearance of my character)

Black, straggly hair, roughly combed to the side to reveal piercing greenish blue eyes. Chin with heavy stubble, and thick eyebrows. One ear has an earring, and he wears leather armour over rusted chainmail that leaves his somewhat muscled arms exposed except for leather arm bands around his wrist. His skin is fairly pale. Although his speech is that of the common rabble, Yoren is actually quite intelligent and calculating and loathes stupidity. He enjoys the company of those who have wit and will not hesitate to be cruel to those who annoy him. Yoren respects strength more than he does noble status, but he will grudgingly bow down to a noble if it means further personal advancement for him.

What is your Character's ambitions?: To build a wandering crew of mercenaries that help the land, and acquire wealth. Eventually he hopes to settle down in a kingdom.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Without a doubt, his sword. However, he is a decent builder as well and knows how to farm.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? His swordsplay, although he has a talent for leading a group, due to many years of observing the leader of a bandit gang.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): ZoYAS.jpg

Other Information about your Character: Yoren is moody and greedy, but is trying to improve his reputation in the kingdom. He might have some trouble fitting in to the rest of society.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Yoren calmly strides up to the fighting trio.

"Ello you three. Mind tellin' me whats goin' on here?"

One of the warriors brusquely replies: "This ain't your business, you grubby sod."

Yoren ignores him and turns to the terrified halfling. "How much money would you be willin' to pay me to save your hide, little imp?"

"You can have all the gold in my purse!"

The second the halfling reached the word "Gold", Yoren spun around and kicked one of the warriors in his unprotected groin. He doubled up in agony, and Yoren parried a mighty blow of an axe with his sword. Before the second warrior could pull back his axe, Yoren grabbed it by the haft and stabbed the warrior through the eye with his sword. By then the other one had regained his composure. Yoren got slashed by a large blade, but his chainmail took the brunt of the damage. Grunting, Yoren made a mighty slash over his head at the warrior. While the enemy raised his sword to parry the blow, Yoren made a vicious kick and swept both of his legs from underneath him. Yoren picked up a nearby stick and whacked the thief over the head several times, to knock him unconscious. He swiped the gold purse from the halfling and before he could even say "Thank you", Yoren was on his way.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"I have no need of your gold and finery, rich man. What I purchase is good ale and fine blades. "

Yoren walks away, leaving the merchant staring at him. He proceeds to stride into a tavern and get completely drunk.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Yoren walks around the hut, examining it and looking for traces of what could have happened. He comes across a rotting corpse, left there by marauders. He digs a shallow grave for the person and bury's some of the goods in the hut with him. However, he keeps the golden sword and iron bars.

"I bet this golden sword is worth quite the pretty penny back in Alras, and I'l wager I could get a nice blade made with these bars."

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

"'Ello there kind sirs. You sort look like the kind of people the bandits in the woods would like to raid. Howabouts I offer you free protection services in exchange for just a lil' bit of ale and food!"

"Why, your offer is quite kind, wary traveler. Why don't you stay with us for a while and come with us as we travel."

"Whereabouts are you headed?"

"Why, only the fine kingdom of Hanseti! I'm sure a fine swordsman such as yourself would be greatly appreciated there."

"Aye, that he would. I'l guard ya until we reach there. Thank you for yer hospitality!"

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Yoren is torn by this request. He wants to help the townsfolk, however he also sympathizes with the bandits. He decides to ask to talk to the bandits and judge their morals before deciding whether to side with either of them. He sneaks out of town the night before the attack.

"Hello there fellows. I was hopin' to help you get inside that there town!", Yoren exclaims.

One of the bandit leaders replies: "Hah, you look the sort that could handle himself in a fight!"

The bandits let him join them around the fire. They boast about how they slaughtered all the nuns in a monastery and proceeded to give their severed heads to the people in the nearest village. Yoren pretends to sleep, and then when the bandits are all snoring, sneaks out and cuts the leader's throat. One of the bandits wakes up, and he runs back to town, the bandits chasing behind.

"Come out, the bloody bandits are comin'!" Yoren yells.

One of the guards fetches his comrades, and without a word Yoren joins them in the shield wall just as the bandit group reaches the town. After the fight is done, he collects a bounty from the lead guardsmen and goes on his way.

Denied.

Your definition of meta-gaming is very mixed, you give one example that is meta-gaming, and one example that is something else entirely. You do not demonstrate clear understanding of the rule, so I am going to say that it is incorrect. A forum search ought to clear things up easily enough.

Your definition of power-gaming is also incorrect

Certain details inside of your biography feel highly unrealistic.

You display obvious signs of villainy in your application, this is not allowed until you have filled out a villain application; which you are only allowed to do once you've been on the server for a week.

You need to clearly display your redemption; I find it difficult to see your character as Good with your current setup.

This is just a suggestion but link your ambition back to your biography, it's hard to see the transition from bandit to merchant.

Your open response questions border on the side of unrealistic, you're almost there, but you need to stress more so the faults of your character. You make him seem almost too perfect of a fighter in the first one. Overall the rest need to be fleshed out, and written in full roleplay. Nitpick: Do pennies exist in Lord of the Craft?

You will be allowed to reapply in twenty four hours, if you have any questions regarding your application feel free to drop a PM in my inbox.

Good luck!
