Out-Of-Character

Main Minecraft Account Name: Sawses

Alternate Minecraft Account Name: RenownedDragoon

In your own words, define what the act of Roleplaying is:

Roleplaying, by definition, is the act of playing a role. You take on the persona of another and act out that persona without any interference from your dominant personality, or in simple terms, you.

In your own Words, define what the act of Metagaming is:

Metagaming is knowing something ICly simply because you happen to know it OOCly. You cannot learn something in Global chat, for instance, and expect to use it when roleplaying.

In your own Words, define what the act of Powergaming is:

Powergaming is pressuring another to make a certain decision for their character or forcing an action upon them, especially in, but not limited to, combat. For instance, my character might swing his sword at another man's face, but I OOCly would not decide if the swing managed to harm the target

In-Character:

Character Name: Halerame Hileia'lar

What Race are you?: Elf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): High Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

((I played this character on another account, and hoped to have the privilege of continuing him on this account. If that is not permitted, I'll gladly re-apply with a brand-new character.))

Halerame was born into a small town of highly traditionalist High Elves, located in Malinor. They had very little of their forebears' culture, though they tried their best to follow what they knew by seeking knowledge in all forms. His childhood was rather normal, to say the least. He obtained basic schooling as well as a fair understanding of chemistry from his chemist father. His mother was a housewife who spent her days either studying in the small library the town contained or cleaning up after himself and his father.

Upon reaching adulthood, Halerame promptly set out on his own to seek more knowledge than could be obtained in his pitiful excuse for a town. He sought out the finest universities, schools, and libraries, looking for books and teachers who could teach him their arts. As opposed to most High Elven scholars, he wanted to actually use his learning, not simply know for the pleasure of knowledge, though he did enjoy that, too.

He studied psychology, philosophy, engineering, war tactics, architecture, and even the basics of metallurgy, though he only truly cared for psychology and his personal favorite, war tactics, as they allowed him to see into the minds of other men and understand what drove them. The others, he merely learned in passing, and as such, he retained relatively little knowledge.

Through his schooling, he began to understand that knowledge was what separated men from animals. He also became somewhat of a dissenter among his kind, though he kept it well-hidden. He treated people a certain way based on their intelligence. A wise man would earn respect from him, no matter his race. He even befriended a few goblins who he grew to consider almost friends, such was their intelligence.

Along with this understanding came a new revelation: knowledge was power. With it, a man could make or break himself and others. Without it, he was doomed to fail in all his endeavors. He realized that what he had been seeking all along had been power, not merely knowledge, though the two are considered one and the same to Halerame.

Upon Aegis' demise, he fled along with the others to Asulon. After some time spent wandering in search of the now-scarce knowledge that he had so long fed off of, he heard of a city of High Elves, Haelun'or. Knowing that such a large group of scholars was a golden opportunity for learning, as well as a new chance of power. He was soon made the Legate of the Legion, which he used to attempt reformation of the military proceeding their fall to the Orcs.

Unfortunately, this soon came to an end, as he was forced to flee the city due to political unrest. For nearly a decade, he wandered Asulon, remaining hidden as best he could. Recently, he came upon a tavern in Westport where the occupants were talking about Haelun'or, and how the various tensions had died down. Upon hearing these things, he decided to return to Haelun'or to see what he could do to salvage his reputation and position.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

He wants power, simply enough. He'll not be violent or terribly impatient about it. After all, he is a rather young Elf, and has already risen to decent heights. Why risk things by rushing them?

Aside from power, he seeks to be competent in a wide array of fields. A jack-of-all trades, if you will. He has studied a variety of topics that have practical applications. They range from basic chemistry to the rudiments of engineering, though he's far from competent in either field. He wants to learn all he can and find ways to use it without devoting his life to a single field of study.

Open-Response-Questions

Answer at least three out of five listed

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Halerame shrugs, walking by. He sees no purpose in helping either party, as neither is likely to benefit him. Besides that, he would be a likely target, once they were done with the halfling. He might help the thing if he actually had a chance of defeating two fully armored warriors and saw profit in it, but neither of those things are terribly likely, in this circumstance.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Halerame would adopt his most superior and condescending expression, using his High Elven upbringing to its maximum potential. "Greetings, Valah((Assuming it is a human.)), I am looking for a bolt of fine silk. Would you happen to have any?" He would say, keeping straight posture and staring at the man down his nose. In truth, he could care less for the cloth, but he finds the game of haggling to be a fun psychological puzzle, and this man looks quite skilled at it. If the man did happen to possess the cloth, he would use small social ques and mind games to make himself seem more wealthy than he really is, but not wealthy enough for the man to think he was easily duped into paying more than the bolt was worth.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Halerame would take the items, since it is empty, after all. Who would miss them? If he found any signs of habitation, he would likely replace the items in the same position he remembered them, or as close as he could to it.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Halerame would smile warmly, trying to project a feeling of geniality and friendliness, as well as add a haggard edge to it to urge them to feel sympathy for him. He would hold his hands out in a nonthreatening posture and ask in a friendly, informal voice, "You got anything spare to eat, friend? Maybe a place to rest for the night? If you do, I will be eternally grateful, and Aeriel bless you."

Inwardly, he would grimace at the sheer casualness that he would be forced to project. Halerame is in his element when speaking in a formal, stiff voice, lacking both courtesy and useless pleasantries. He finds them to be a waste of time unless others find them valuable.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Halerame would likely avoid the situation entirely and leave town via the wilderness as soon as is possible. He is poor with combat, and is merely a fair hand with a bow. No match for most bandits, despite their general lack of discipline. If he were forced into involvement, he'd likely stay in the back of the company, taking potshots at any bandits foolish enough to leave cover.

Denied.

The over all application was nice, really nice. You obviously know how to play this character.

However, your open response questions albeit, give a very clear depiction of your character lack something.

They need a bit more expansion and details and depth. Other than that you did a very good job.

You will be allowed to reapply in twenty four hours. If you have any questions regarding your application, feel free to drop a message in my inbox.

Good luck!
