Definitions In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Roleplaying is the playing of a character in a different life, where said character has his or her own life, personality, and ambitions different than your own OOC. In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: The act of meta-gaming is the OOC knowledge of something that the ingame character does not know. For example, a player reads on a forum that there is going to be an assault on their village. He goes onto the roleplaying server and notifies everybody in town to prepare. In the game however, his character would not have known about this assault and would have been unprepared. It takes away from a lot of the realism in roleplaying itself. In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Power-emoting is the usage of emotes on another player in roleplaying to put them into a situation that they have no power or control over. For example, "The dwarf chokes suffers a sudden heart-attack and dies" would be usage of power-emoting. In-Character Details Character Name: Lanolar Roherdiron Character Race: High Elf Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: The story of Lanolar Roherdiron begins when I was born just outside of Malinor, north of the caverns of Menorcress. My mother Luana and my father Alston were quite young when they had me. I never new my mother though, for she died giving birth to me. My father was then forced to raise me on his own while try to make a living to feed the both of us. The attention from my father was nearly infinite until I had reached the age of about 15. At that point he had started bringing me into Haeluno with him where he worked as a merchant selling farming supplies. I would spend most of my time sitting in the back room of his shop either reading about the history of the Elven kingdom, or trying to help him organize his shop so his business could prosper. I continued this until about age 20 when for my birthday, I received my very first bow from my father. He had been saving it for when he thought I was good and ready to learn it's amazing wonders and talents. He would help me practice in the fields where we wouldn't injure anybody by accident. After I got the hang of it I would practice constantly, always trying to improve my skill and become a better archer. Once I reached age 30 I would even sneak out at night from time to time just to go and practice on the dummy target I had set up in an open field. As I entered the final years of being a teenager I helped my father out around the shop most of my time. Together we made the business much better and our income was increasing at a steady rate. Everything was going so smoothly it almost seemed like a fantasy to my father and I. As I entered adulthood, new responsibilities were brought upon me. Some of the older and wise elves in Haelunor had noticed my work ethic and ability to prosper with my bow. They personally confronted me one afternoon just as I was closing up the shop for my father. They told me that they appreciated my skills and work ethic and that I should consider joining those who protect the peace and studies of the Elves inside Normandor. I gladly accepted this responsibility and kept practicing with my bow to make sure I was ready to serve the Elves against anybody that would dare to disturb the peace that went on every day in the community of Haelunor. In between the time of my practicing of my bow I made sure that I continued to study nature and learn more about the oldest history known about the Elves. While all of this was going on, my father became very sick. Something called Dwarven Fever, a rare disease that is hardly ever seen harming people outside of the underworld. None of the people in the community, even the druids, could do anything to help him of his illness. I was soon told that my father only had about a week left to live before he would pass away. The people in Haelunor told me to take that week off and spend our last moments together. I ended up doing just that and even more to care for my father. I spent all the hours of the first 5 days of that week with him. Caring for him and having conversations about my childhood and how much fun it was. On the sixth day I went out to the place I was born just outside of Malinor. My mother's gravestone was there, for my father had wanted it to be in the place that she had died. Right next to that I worked for 4 hours making a second grave and gravestone for my father when he passed away the next day. As that morning came, I went straight to where my father was sleeping. I gently woke him and he was very glad to see me. He told me that he was the weakest he had ever felt and was already growing tired even after waking up only 10 minutes earlier. I knew this was going to be it for him within the next 20 minutes so I did not leave his side. Just as my father was closing his eyes, he looked at me and said to me, "Lanolar, you must find what lies in the shadow of the statue. It is your destiny to understand what you are to do in your life before you pass like I am now." At those final parting words, he closed his eyes and went somewhere far away where he could be at peace. After burying his body and paying my final respects to the one who had raised and cared for me my entire life, I was troubled. What he told me ripped my brain into two pieces, one half struggling to find the other half. It just did not make sense to me. All the hours I had spent studying the Elven history back to the beginning of Aegis had never mentioned a "Shadow of the statue". I researched and researched for hours on end. Two whole years and nothing found on the subject at all. I had devoted all of my time and resources to finding this one thing that I didn't even know existed. Now as I have no money left I am a traveler longing for a purpose. I still wish to understand what my father meant when he passed, but it is a far off dream to me now. I must continue on with my life though. Make a living, study the environment and it's nature, and protect the people of Malinor from any evil that may come upon them at any time. My journey is far from over, as it is my destiny to understand my father's last words. What are your characters ambitions?: My character's ambitions are to make a living and find an overall purpose for himself in the world of Aegis. His secondary ambitions are to understand what his father's parting words meant as he died of Dwarven Fever. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: He is and has always been a hard working and diligent Elf. You can put him to any task and he will get it done without questioning the authority of his superior. Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?: My character hears the dwarf calling to sell to people in the city and approaches him at his stand. He asks the dwarf what he is selling and the dwarf tells him that he is selling stone weaponry to people in need of it. After buying two swords from the dwarf, Lanolar tells the dwarf that he will be right back. Lanolar then proceeds to the center of town and begins shouting for a crowd to gather around him. As people arrive to see what all the commotion is about Lanolar tells them that there is a dwarf merchant that is selling swords at a great price over in the market area of the city. He then tells them that there are also other merchants selling materials and tools that can be useful to anybody. He says that he bought from many of them including the dwarf and they are all high quality materials. Many people agree with Lanolar and head over there to buy from them. A group of people in the back of the crowd however begin to question Lanolar and ask him if he's lying and if he even did go buy from them. Lanolar pulls a sword out from his pack and tosses it to them proving himself to them and everybody else watching. The people admire how truthful and correct Lanolar was about the quality and craftsmanship of the swords he bought. Many more people now go to the merchant stands and buy from all the people there. As night comes that evening and the people of the city head back to their homes the dwarf approaches Lanolar. He thanks him for helping him and all the other merchants for helping them make a better living. In saying this he tosses Lanolar a small sac of coins as gratitude for helping him. Lanolar gives him the coins back telling him that he does not want to be rewarded for helping somebody else in need. He says that his reward is the smiles on their faces and the lives that he has bettered on that day. You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?: As soon as Lanolar sees the situation arise he is faced with a serious decision. He can either stay and try to fight or turn the other way and ignore it. Knowing himself being quite a small Elf, he would not stand a change against an Orc twice his size. Running however, would be very cowardly in Lanolar's eyes and does not seem like the right thing to do. Lanolar then notices an inn not far from where he is down the road. Lanolar breaks into a full out sprint towards the inn in hopes that he might find somebody to help him, for he would not be able to do much by himself. When he arrives he sees a group of 4 Dwarves standing outside the entrance. They tell him that one of the Dwarves in their group fell behind and must have gotten lost. Lanolar quickly explains the situation he saw with the Orc and soon they are all sprinting back to where Lanolar just was. Upon arriving back there they find the Dwarf fallen in the middle of the road. The Orc is gone but the beating on the defenseless dwarf has put him into a critical condition. There is blood on the ground and seeping from multiple wounds across his face and his legs. Lanolar begins violently ripping his shirt apart into strips so that he could bandage the dwarf before it was too late. As he begins to apply the bandages the dwarf starts to calm down. The entire time since they had arrived at the scene he had been screaming in pain. After the last of the wounds had been applied to the dwarf, it is apparent that he will not be able to walk on his own. With the help of the other dwarves, Lanolar assists them in carrying the injured dwarf back to the inn that he had found the rest of his group at. Upon arriving there some others come outside to help bring him inside and properly treat his wounds. When morning comes the next day, the dwarf is very thankful for the act of kindness Lanolar performed to him. Lanolar shakes the hand of the dwarf and then continues on with his journey down the Oren Road. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: As soon as Lanolar sees the old man collapse to the ground he rushes over to him. The old man tells him that he has hurt left leg quite badly and does not think he can walk on it. He helps lift the old man up and support him from his left side. With Lanolar's hand around his right shoulder and his hand around Lanolar's left shoulder, he is able to hobble with him over to a tree where he sets him down to rest. Just as he sets him down he hears a rustle from a bush back where the bag of Minas broke. He turns around to see a thief stealing the money on the ground and putting it into his own bag. As Lanolar calls out to him to tell him that those do not belong to him, he bolts the other way. Lanolar quickly draws his bow and puts an arrow straight through the thief's back. After retrieving his arrow and the stolen Minas, he returns to the old man at the tree. He give him back all of the lost money and asks him how his leg feels. The old man says that it feels much better after giving it a short rest and thanks Lanolar for his kindness when he needed help. Just as Lanolar is about to continue on his journey he gives the old man his own walking stick, remembering that his had snapped when he fell. After that, Lanolar continues down the road to wherever he had been going when he saw this happen.
