Rough Beginnings

[Kickstarted and Running 965]

The tides lap upon the beach, a soft crashing in the mid-morning light, the waters a brilliant emerald green, the bright scales if strange fish, and ones known gleam and sparkle under the water

Small life scurries on the beach, a pair of crabs fighting, engaged in deadly combat, claws locked battle to the death, when suddenly a larger crab comes, snatching one up, crushes it, the other crab fleeing into the ocean

As the small crab reaches the waterline, a large object, soaking wet and appearing lifeless washed up with the tide, atop a plank from a ship undoubtedly long sunken or lost at sea

The small crab, intrigued, moves closer, as the wave moves in, it washes up in a large rush, moving over the crab, and as it came back, crushed it, resting upon the sand, the body atop the plank breathing ever so slightly...

Hours passed, a raven came, resting on the beach, cocking its head it observed the man, not attempting to eat, in either fear the body would retaliate, or some other reason, it hopped forward, perching up on the body and roosting there, cleaning itself

Near midday, a sound was heard, a wet cough, and a jerking movement, the raven flying off him, and moving to the sand in front of the man's head, looking curiously at it

Patrick moved his head up, staring into the eyes of the raven "Come to peck my eyes out at my last breath then?" Patrick expected th bird to flee to the sky, but it stayed, coming its head

He grunted "You'll have to wait a while then, this body still has strength in it" Patrick pushed himself up, onto the sand, looking around, and signing, he picked up the plank and beta dragging it with him up the beach to the forest nearby

The raven took to the sky, following Patrick as he set off in search of other sentient beings...
