Character Sub-race: Kha’Pantera

Character appearance (Including age and gender): Dark, slick fur, yellow-green eyes, white patches on face. He is forty-one years old, and male.

What is the personality of your character like?: Sa’Katan doesn’t take things with apes very seriously, but can be quick to anger with those he doesn’t know, although he is patient and tolerant with his friends. He enjoys hunting, and those who can outdo him in sport (hunting or fighting) earn his respect much more quickly than others. He dislikes the weak, but respects the old and those who serve Metztli without them proving themselves to him.

Brief Biography of this character’s life thus far (taking into account the rules against creating a character born outside of the empire): Sa’Katan was born to an average family, a few of his brothers and sisters dying both before and shortly after they left his mother’s womb. He was raised in worship of Metztli and was taught to hunt from a young age, using a knife and his hands. He was taught to catch fish with his hands, cripple and then kill wild animals with his knife, and then he would carry the meat home to feed his mother and father, and his surviving brothers and sisters. By the age of eleven, Sa’Katan thought himself a brilliant hunter, although in truth he was mediocre at best, and spent most of his time chasing animals. His time in the woods made him more agile, and he gradually began to excel at hunting more than he ever had before. He took his trials at fifteen, as all Kha’ do, and after that became a hunter in profession. He sold meat and hides, minus those he kept for himself, and gradually began to settle down. He was twenty-six when he realised that he had not been hunting in over a week, and judged himself to be growing weak. After that point, he spent as much time as he could in the woods once again, forcing himself to improve so that he would not be weak. By thirty-two he was more agile than he’d ever been, often reaping bountiful hunts, eating sufficiently and selling what he didn’t eat. Not much changed over the nine-year span between then and now.

Character’s ambitions within the Kharajyr: To become a Do’, to earn the respect of his peers, to serve Metztli.

Character’s strengths/weaknesses: Sa’Katan is agile and skilled with a knife, but cannot fight with any other weapon. He is not the most intelligent of Kha’, but not overly stupid.

Situational Roleplay Questions

1. You are heading home from a successful hunting trip when a group of three heavily armoured humans jump out from behind a tree and start demanding the surrender of your catch over to them. Each man has a sword drawn and they are gradually pacing towards you...

How does your character react? Sa’Katan draws his knife, the blade flashing quickly toward one human. The human drops his sword in shock, but Sa’Katan feels a sharp pain from behind him as the other humans begin attacking him. Noticing the weight of their armour, he trips one. The standing man with a sword in hand continued attacking Sa’Katan, and Sa’Katan begins attempting to parry and dodge his slashes and thrusts, yet no Kha’ can do that forever, and soon Sa’Katan was left bruised and bloodied, his prize stolen by the apes.

2. You arrive at the temple of Metztli only to see one of your closest friends stealing the sacred blue gems from the altar, a most unholy act for a Kharajyr.

How does your character react? Sa’Katan snarls. “Yusa putta that back! Eesa no right to takea thee sacred gems!” The friend, noticing Sa’Katan, drops a few of the gems. The noise is heard by a few nearby Do’, who become alert to the situation. Sa’Katan shakes his head disappointedly; “And Sa’Katan thoutta yusa strong . . . Yusa weak.” He says to himself, walking away as his friend is taken into custody.

3. You are in the Cloud Temple when a stout, angry little dwarf begins yelling highly racist terms towards you at the top of his lungs. Although unarmed, the dwarf continues to yell after he makes eye contact with you.

How does your character react? Sa’Katan flashes his knife. “The Dwarf eesa notta so big now, issa he?” Sa’Katan laughs, “Yusa go home now,” he tells the Dwarf, sheathing his dagger, an amused look on his face. The Dwarf, bemused and red, glares at Sa’Katan, before stomping off angrily.

4. Fire has broken out over the jungle city and you can hear the screaming of two Kha’ nearby. As you go investigate, you notice that one of your friends and the Tlatlanni’s white-furred child have gotten themselves trapped in opposite ends of a burning building. The roof creaks above you, if you were to get involved, you would only have time to save one before the building collapsed.

How does your character react? Sa’Katan, without a second thought, runs toward the white-furred child, shouting; “Sa’Katan sorry, friend, butta Tla’s cub issa important!” As Sa’Katan runs out of the burning building, patting singed patches of fur, he gives a sad glance back over his shoulder, putting the Tla’s child down safely.
