Definitions
In your own words define the following terms. Do not take any definitions from elsewhere!:

Role-playing: Role-playing is much acting like in a way. A player would take on the role of a character in a specific world, and act as the character would through the scenarios that he/she is faced with.
Meta-gaming: Meta-gaming is when a player uses real life information rather than information that the character has legitimately obtained in-game, or when a player breaks character for his benefit. An example of this could be a character calling out someone else by their name, without ever having been introduced.
Power-emoting: Power-emoting is when a player would overpower his/her character and give the opponent little if any chance to fight back. An example of this could be if someone emotes that their character has successfully shot an arrow at an enemy without giving the other player a chance to avoid or counter.

Past /
History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long):

I was born and raised in the nation of Asulon, in the outskirts of a small village called Alras, along with my younger brother and father. My mother had passed on when she gave birth to my brother and since then our father had nurtured us. Father was a skilled warrior that taught us how to defend ourselves since we were young and how to hunt to survive. When I turned eighteen, father sent me to survive on a mountain for four months, where I had to kill, hunt, and build shelters almost every night, since staying in one place was too dangerous. The four months on that mountain felt longer and longer each passing day. Since I began my only thoughts were on my father and brother, but towards the end of the fourth month, my thoughts had strayed from the previous, to survival. I had returned after the end of the fourth month only to find something I had never imagined. My home, or what was left of my home, had been burned to the ground and only a wall stood up, but barely did it do so. My first thought after seeing this was my father and brother. I began looking, turning every tree to see if they were there, but I couldn’t find anyone. Then it occurred to me. The house, even though it was burnt down it was still good enough for cover from arrow fire. So I entered to check and when I turned the corner around the burnt wall, I found my father. His corpse lay there on the blood stained floor. Seven arrows sticking out of his body, and tears started forming in my eyes at the sight of this, but I pushed those feelings aside and began searching for my brother, with only him being alive on my mind. However, I could not find him no matter how long I searched. I ran straight for Alras, the city close to my home, to see if my brother was there.

My brother, however, was nowhere to be found, and everyone in the village had told me that they did not see my brother enter or leave the city. There was however, a group that entered and left towards my house two weeks before I came back. If I had stayed, I would have been able to help my father defend our home, or perhaps fall with him in battle, but anything was better than living alone. The thought of my brother missing, gave me hope that he was still alive, so I traveled for five years looking for the men that took my brother, and that lead me to a nation called Anthos, where I now call home.

Ambitions for the Future: My ambitions for the future is to find my brother and take revenge on the men that killed my father.
Personality: I’m usually serious, but sometimes carefree.
Skills: I may not be too skilled of a fighter, however I have excellent survival skills.

1. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperors palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?

Answer: While in the human capital searching for leads on my brother’s whereabouts, I notice a dark-clothed figure sneaking towards the Emperor’s palace. Thoughts began to race in my head of what to do. I looked around and notice that there are guards in shouting distance. Again my thoughts begin to race, but before thinking of a solution my body reacted and before I knew what was happening, I was behind the person sneaking. “Hey you,” I said trying to grab his attention, “what are you doing?” He turned to me and just stared at me with the eyes of a innocent man for a few seconds before saying, “Just walking around like I normally do every morning.” I managed to chuckle at his reply. “So,” I said calming myself down, “you don’t mind if I call the guards over, do you?” His eyes shifted from innocent to a blank enraged face. “What?” he yelled, his voice filled with anger, “Do you not trust my words? Do I look like a bad man?” He was right. He didn’t look like a bad man, but I didn’t need to call the guards over for they were attracted by the man’s yelling. “Is there a problem here?” one of the guards asked. I turned to the guards, but before I could speak, the man blurted out, “Yes! This man has accused me of doing something wrong!” I turned to him, confused, “What do you mean?” I asked, “I never accused you of doing anything. I simply asked what you were doing.” The guard turned towards the man, “Wait, don’t I know you?” The man suddenly froze. “I don’t know what you mean.” he said quietly trying to hide his face. Almost simultaneously, the guards unsheathe their swords and held them towards the man. “No,” the same guard who spoke before said, “You are a wanted man. You are under arrest.” Two of the guards escorted the man away, while one of the guards turned to me and said, “Thank you for the help, sir. We probably wouldn’t have noticed him if you hadn’t had him yelling.” I nodded towards the guard, “It was no problem my good sir. I only thought that he was acting strange, but either way you are welcome.” The guard nodded back and I turned to walk away to continue journey.

2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armour and an iron longsword, how do you react?

Answer: While wandering in the deep oak forest, I finally came across a large clearing. At first, I thought it was the exit, but my happiness soon disappeared once I saw a small cobbled cottage. It wasn’t the cottage that upset me, it was what was happening outside the cottage that upset me. There stood an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits, who appear to be threatening the old man. I hid behind a tree, hoping they hadn’t seen me, and only one thought came into my head, ‘What would father do in this situation?’ Even though I asked myself this question, I already knew what the answer was. So, I walked calmly towards the cottage and called out, “Excuse me, what’s going on here?” One of the bandits turned toward me and looked at me with anger. “What the ‘ell do you want?” he said angrily, “This has nothing to do with you, now get lost!” He pulled out his bow and readied it with an arrow. “Listen,” I said trying to calm him down, “just leave the old man alone and you can take whatever you want from me. Isn’t that a fair trade?”

I was seriously trying to get these bandits off the old man, and hopefully on to me. Suddenly, the second bandit spoke out, “Actually, that isn’t such a bad trade.” The other bandit turned to him in shock. “What do you mean? We can’t just-” He was cut off when the other bandit yelled out, “But! before that...” The bandit suddenly turned around and but his sword through the old man’s stomach. “No!” I yelled out, and without even thinking through what I was doing, I found myself running straight for the bandits, sword at the ready. I lunged at the bandit that stabbed the old man, but the other one was quick enough to switch to his sword and block me. He pushed me back and then ran at me and swung blindly. Though I’m not usually quick on my feet, I was fortunate enough to duck, for if I hadn’t, these bandits would have my head. As soon as I ducked, I lunged my sword forward and stabbed one of the bandits. As I did so, I heard the other one yell, “Why, you little!” Next thing I knew, there were arrows being fired at me. I took the obvious step and used the now dead bandit as a shield and took his bow, since he didn’t need it anymore and started to fire back. Sadly, I’ve never held a bow before in my life, but it had to do. I pulled an arrow back and stood up to fire, but when I did fire, the arrow went straight to the ground and the bandits arrow found a way to my left shoulder.

I fell to the ground, writhing in pain, I grabbed the end of the arrow, held my breath, and pulled it out. That was probably the most painful experience in my life. I immediately gave up on the bow and readied my sword again. I lifted the bandit’s body, and used it as a walking shield to cover me from arrows. And it worked. Once I got close enough, I threw the dead bandit’s body towards his former partner to distract him and then I lunged forward with my sword, hopefully to find his chest. He didn’t fall for it, however. He had already prepared his sword and blocked my blade. It staggered me for a moment, but I soon regained my footing. He swung at me with blind rage, but this time I had no time to dodge. He cut me on my chest. That threw me to the ground. He stood over me and yelled out, “Die, you pig!” I put my hand on my bleeding chest and flung blood to his eyes to blind him, and it worked, but he still stabbed downward. He missed my skull by an inch, and I took the moment to kick him in the groin, which put him to his knees. I stood up, grabbed his sword, removed it from the ground and stabbed downward through his back. I heard him gasp for his final gasp of air, and then he was silenced. I ran to the old man, hoping he had somehow survived, but to my dismay, he had not. I spent the rest of the day digging a hole with a shovel that I found inside the man’s home so I could bury him. When that was done, I headed back into the woods, hoping that I would never have to see this kind of thing again.

3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens).

Answer: I stood within the human capital, looking for an inn to stay in, when I notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. He seemed to be trying to attract customers, but everyone around seemed too busy to stop by. I walked towards the stall and noticed that the man was selling a variety of general goods. “Excuse me, sir,” I said, “What exactly are you selling here?” He smiled when I walked up to him. “Why, anything you need, sir!” he said happily, “We have swords, armor, and food! And nothing has a set price.” That last part intrigued me. No set price? That sounded amazing and I was looking for some new armor. “Well, I’m looking for a new chestplate, perhaps of iron?” The man turned and pulled out an iron chestplate. “For you,” he said, “ten gold ingots.” That seemed like a fair trade, but the only problem was, I only had seven, and even the cheapest of inn’s would take four. “How about three?” I asked. He shook his head no, “How about seven gold ingots?” he asked.

“You see,” I said, “I only have seven gold ingots, but I need to find an inn to stay in for the night, and even the cheapest in would only take at least four ingots.” The man paused for a moment, it seemed like he was thinking. “Well,” he said, “What if I said, seven ingots for the armor, and a bed for the night?” I smiled. “I would take it.” I said happily. He smiled back, took my seven gold ingots, gave me the iron chestplate and showed me to his home.

Asulon and Anthos are server worlds, not nations. The application is otherwise outstanding and the Open Response Questions are especially fantastic.
