I love reading the guides in the "Guides" section of the forum,

but I was wondering, do you have to hold the position of Guide to write one?

You dont have to be of the Guide position to write a guide, however the only difference in this case is that any content written content by a Guide gets labeled as LoTC official and stickied. That shouldn't discourage you though since a guide is still a guide regardless.
