Blind Characters

Once again I have no idea which is the proper sub-forum to post my thread in, but here goes.

My current character is an elf that is blind in one eye, and going blind in the other. Has anybody else ever roleplayed a blind character? If so what tips can you give me and can they still learn magic? I would really like to try magic with this character.

Yes they can still learn magic, and its quite challenging to rp blind characters. I have had 2

Keep your eyes low to avoid metagaming.

Keep [blind] in your name. Never look directly at someone

and just act like you dont see anyone. ^^

Also don't RP that you can see with your feet. Toph doesn't exist.

Stay true to the concept. If you are going to make your character blind, please stay blind. So many people develop these defects in rp and then just forget about it and make up some silly excuse to have sight again. My only suggestion is remain faithful.

See with my feet? I dont understand. What is Toph?

A character that was an earth evocationist in Avatar: The Last Airbender. She was blind but could feel movements or sound waves in the earth, or somethin' like that.

Moved to support and assistance.

Although I have not played a blind character, I would recommend thinking up some way your character can maneuver obstacles- such as a cane. This can create a couple more actions your character will perform and you won't ever have to bump into everything. It doesn't have to be a cane, make it something interesting! Canes are fine though ^-^

I would also say that if they have an accident (causing them to become blind) ensure you roleplay them slowly getting better and better at getting around without sight. Perhaps they need assistance from people to begin with, until they manage to get some sort of cane- even when they get it they aren't any good at using it, but slowly they improve...

Hopefully this helps! Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about what I have said.
