  1. Somewhere, within the far reaches of the north, 1369226016_ChryssaSignature.png.5689e261d4dbb7aad82dbe02cbb039fe.png would sigh softly. An ethereal crow, perched atop her pauldron, would idly pick at the worn and tattered robes she donned. When news of the Luminary's death reached her, a low growl would rumble from her throat, pale white flames licking at the edges of her vision, as images of fiery figures danced about the periphery of her gaze.

"Let us hope that you may find some measure of happiness in the Father's halls, Luminary Faretto. You deserved better than what you received." She'd mutter, glimpses of her past with the aged man flashing through her mind. The soft glow of her flamebrand, pallid and moonlit, would illuminate the frosted, snowed-in cave she had found herself in, though it would do little to comfort her rattled mental state.

    And so, another flame fades.

As for PvP, we selected initial armor durability values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch.

Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player mina earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

  3. 1721511169_HoarfrostSignature.png.c564a07fd345bfd800e301f13fbbfbdd.png would chuff in frustration, the residual fear and tension in the air aggravating the small Seedling. It would rise from its perch on a tree local to the halfling village, utterances of the name 'Knox' reaching it increasingly more often. The roots making up its forelimbs would begin to shift and churn, twisting into a grotesque set of claws after a time.

    "I... Am... Fores'."

  4. From within the woods of the Elvenesse, near a certain halfling village, a denizen of the wood would rouse itself from its pale slumber, pulling itself free of the bark which cradled it in a sweet, invigorating embrace. It would hear the murmurs of fright and debate of such an intrusion, fractured as its understanding of the descendant tongue was. However, it understood the emotion of fear well enough...

And it would strive to show this new intruder the true meaning of such. With a series of deep gashes upon the trees bordering the village, it would make its presence known. Intelligent eyes would watch from the surrounding underbrush, watching. Waiting. Stalking... For now.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

All phantoms are born from those who are unable to pass on to the soulstream, and to the afterlife as a whole. There are many reasons that a soul may simply refuse to pass on, be it from a horrifically violent death, tragic circumstances surrounding their death, or simply sheer willpower. Here they sit, cast adrift in the Elysian until they take form as a Revenant within the corporeal realm.

Revenants are newly born phantoms, not quite able to grasp the circumstances of their death, and barely able to take a semblance of corporeality. These souls are lost, confused, and ultimately wracked with numerous mental illnesses as a result of their undeath. Their new ectoplasmic form is unfamiliar and foreign, a milky gray effigy of their past selves, and their very soul struggles to put together the pieces of how they died, or that they’re even dead in the first place. Their ‘bodies’ will show marks and wounds, depending on how they died. Revenants will often make an attempt to return to their normal lives, only to fall into despair as they come to the unfortunate realization that they are, in fact, dead. Neither malevolent, benevolent, or obsessive, these phantoms are the closest thing to neutrality that a spectral creature could reach by its very nature. Often, they will fade in and out of reality as their emotional state shifts and churns, their voices mere echoes of what they once were. With time, a Revenant will move past this nascent state, becoming one of three distinct types of phantom.

The most grisly, and perhaps the most notable, would be a Poltergeist; a black spirit. These are souls who refuse to accept their demise, lashing out in anger as their ectoplasm takes on a dark black or red hue, the Poltergeist slowly becoming more and more absorbed in its hatred. Tormented by their new state, and utterly absorbed by the trauma of it all, these spirits are the most violent and aggressive flavor of phantom, hell-bent on domination and reliant on predatory instinct. That is not to say all Poltergeists are cruel, vile creatures, but moreso ravaged by the mental maladies of undeath to a dangerous extreme, causing most to act as feral beasts. Any evident wounds they bore as a Revenant will be exacerbated tenfold, causing them to be unrecognizable as the people they once were. Their voices are often characterized by hissing, wailing, and other animalistic or unpleasant sounds. Unlike Revenants, who lack the ability to manipulate or interact with the material world in a meaningful capacity, Poltergeists possess the same strength they held in life, and combined with the ability to shift their form, will often act as direct participants in the world at large, rather than sitting by and observing from the Elysian. Those in their presence will feel a distinct feeling of unease or fear, the Poltergeist’s sheer hatred and negativity seeping into the world around them.  Poltergeists possess the ability to suffuse a given structure with their ectoplasm, effectively granting them a limited omnipresence within the area, while enhancing their abilities greatly while within. Through this, however, they surrender their ability to leave the structure, bound to it so long as their essence remains. Such a haunt may only be dispelled through the banishment of its poltergeist resident. In addition, Poltergeists may also possess humanlike objects, enforcing their will upon the unfortunate soul who has come to be targeted by the spectral beast. Channeling holy magic is one way of forcing a Poltergeist out of one's body, though that obviously necessitates the possess-ee being a mage of holy ilk.

The polar opposite of the Poltergeist would be the Spectre; a white spirit. These souls have, over time, come to terms with the circumstances of their condition, accepting their demise and the circumstances behind it. A stark contrast to their more violent counterpart, these spirits are benevolent, and perhaps the most ‘evil’ they could get is playful mischief. This acceptance of their death, and being at piece with such, grants their ectoplasm a soft white, yellow, or blue coloration, and will bear no wounds or markers of how precisely they died. Their form would be, while not perfect, notably pristine yet... unsettling. Porcelain skin, pupil-less eyes, and other such features grant them a distinctly more pleasing appearance than a Poltergeist would possess. Their voices are often melodic, echoing and ultimately soothing to hear. They radiate a soothing, positive aura, calming those in their immediate presence. Oftentimes, a Spectre will pass on to the soulstream shortly after their transition, though some may choose to stay and contribute to the world they once knew. These phantoms are distinct in that they may, in actuality, pass on at any time of their choosing.

The final type of phantom is a curious one; the Graven. Brought back from the grasp of death not by denial or acceptance, but sheer obsession or passion for what drove them in life. Their ectoplasm takes a grey, green, or purple hue, but these phantoms do not share the incorporeal nature of their proverbial cousins. Instead, their worldly bonds and motivation bring them closer to the physical plane than any other phantom, allowing them to take true form within the mortal realm. Like Spectres, these spirits do not bear any obvious marks of their demise, but their overall physique would be that of what they possessed in life, with a twist; their ectoplasmic form would give their skin the aesthetic of a glass-like or gelatinous appearance, making their status as an undead known. Oftentimes, a subtle ectoplasm smog would emanate from their skin, though this is not present in every Graven. So long as they pursue their passion, goal, or task, a Graven is relatively free of the mental maladies that mar other phantom types, though not entirely. Should they be prevented from pursuing their obsession, however, a Graven could become more dangerous and violent than even a Poltergeist, driven to despair and intolerable rage by being unable to accomplish their goal. These phantoms are one of the most unlikely to pass on, though such is still possible.

Regardless of their type, all Phantoms are able to be banished with three strikes from an Aurum weapon, Paladin Holy Affinity, or other such methods. In addition, with OOC consent, Phantoms may be permanently banished by Paladin Purging, a Shaman's Blessing of Kor, and through the soul-weaving arts of Mysticism.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

Revenants: More undefined spectral figures, grey in coloration and shifting in and out of reality depending on their emotional state. Will often bear subtle reminders of their demise, though they will often not acknowledge such wounds due to their confused mental state.

Poltergeists: Monstrous and feral spirits, these phantoms are black or red in coloration, and the cause of their demise would be greatly exaggerated, causing them to be nearly unrecognizable from the person they were before. Can change into other forms. be it an animal or a more monstrous version of themselves.

Spectres: Kind and benevolent spirits, they are either blue, white, or yellow, and will bear no reminders of their demise. Their features are often pristine and unsettling, much like that of a doll’s; an uncanny sort of perfection. Often, they will be dressed in dapper or flattering clothing, so as to dignify who they were prior to their demise.

Gravens: Obsessive, passionate spirits, these phantoms either take on a green, purple, or grey coloration, their skin becoming glassy or gelatinous in appearance. Like spectres, they will bear no reminders of their demise, though a faint ectoplasmic smog may emanate from their skin, though this isn’t always a guarantee. These phantoms take a physical form, and as such will appear more "solid" than other Phantoms would, for obvious reasons.

Do you have a magic(s) you are dropping due to this app? If so, link it:

             Nope!

Do you agree to keep Story writers updated on the status of your magic app?:

             Mhm!

Do you understand that if this creature's lore is undergoing an activity trial and that trial fails, you will no longer be able to play this creature and will be forced to either revert the character back to its normal form (if it was a transformative type) or stop playing the character entirely (if it is an entirely new creature)?:

             Absolutely.

Memey RP or using this CA for subpar villain/bandit RP can lead to your app being denied, even after acceptance. Please put "I understand" as your response once you have read this part and understand the consequences.

             Eeyup!

Have you applied for this creature on this character before, and had it denied? If so, link the app:

Not for this particular character, though I do have an already-accepted Phantom app for one of my other personas!

  6. This uh... this is certainly something. I think.

Ultimately a very confusing piece, with a lot of nonsensical number modifiers and terminology, as well as some, if I may be frank, wack redlines.

    Quote

    Warding cannot be ST.

    Wat?

On the topic of redlines, I do notice a... rather hefty lack of them in regards to abilities and the like, and combined with the vague wording of said abilities, I think the potential for abuse here is pretty high. I can see the idea you had here, but I feel that the execution fell flat and that the lore will likely be dead on arrival when the ST look in the general direction of it.

I feel that the concept may have had some merit to begin with, but in its current iteration, this doesn't genuinely offer anything to contribute to the overall narrative/story of the server as a whole, as Yeu or Shamanism might. This is just... a set of permanent buffs for whoever the caster's friends are, with a new Aengul to match it.

I think that this is decent for what is seemingly one of your first lore posts in a hot minute, but it falls flat from where I stand. For the future, I think I'd advise looking at some of the other lores for inspiration and a general guide on how to format and such, as well as do some research beforehand. There is already an Aengudaemon of Companionship; Tayl.

  7. 1250065749_TarathielSignature.png.ea2315c82c2810ed21d02e1882a9dadc.pngwould frown, reading the notice that had been put up on the board outside of her tavern. She would scan the poster swiftly, retrieving a pair of gloves from her apron pocket.

"Oh dear... this won't do at all." She'd mutter, slipping the gloves on as she turned, walking back to her home.

With luck, maybe she could help find this maiden?

I LIKED the idea of vortex and I kinda still do, that said I think its been executed poorly.

Vortex does one thing VERY GOOD, and thats adding new stuff, alloys, new metals, new weapons, new ores, new gems, custom blocks and stuff GREAT! I think thats a great idea, but it seems the system has become so convoluted over the course of its development that it lost sight of its original goal which should have been custom items to benefit roleplay. No one wanted another nexus based system of wanting to shoot yourself in the head, no one did. Now alot of vanilla stuff is locked behind vortex gates, this should NEVER have happened.

Vortex should have been about ADDING to roleplay, not stifling it.

    Very well said!

  9. 1123905507_TarathielSignature.png.535e495876b06826078123a0e630edad.png would frown, seeing this strange parchment, hidden in the confines of a tome dedicated to the practical application of philosophy; a book she had been reading for quite some time, making this find all the more peculiar in her eyes. Lifting the poem from where it had been nestled betwixt the aged pages, her eyes would scan the document, the text illuminated in the dim candlelight of her study. With each line read, the Elfess' brow would furrow ever more, clearly perplexed by the contents of this unusual manuscript.

"... How ghastly." She'd mutter, placing the tome aside so that she may further study what had been left inside of her home. The parchment would be flipped and turned, though once she had seen that there was only the singular poem, she would relent, examining the text once again. Macabre it may have been, she couldn't help but be intrigued. After all, it had ended up in her abode somehow.

Late into the night, the Elfess would ruminate over, and ponder, the strange gift she had received. By the time the clock had signaled it was three in the morning, she would have resolved to place the document inside of her desk, locking the drawer she had stowed it away in. She had a large amount of work ahead of her, with the coming elections within the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, but...

It would certainly be given another look tomorrow. After all, it's rude not to enjoy a gift.

  10. 215056824_TarathielSignature.png.2665621b85b4bbd8a9355d440e1abd7b.png would smile, reading the poster that had made its way into her pub.

"A little bit confused, but she's got the spirit. Given a proper explanation of how Duma functions, I'm sure she will make an excellent member of the elected portion of the cohorts."

With that said, the poster would quietly be tucked into a drawer at the counter, for further study & reviewal.

  11. My primary question is how exactly does a culimancer fix the effects of a broken Geas? It's a lovely touch, and as a Culimancer myself, I do like the thought of fixing such mental agony with a pinch of love and some sugar, just curious as to what the process is. Disney magic is best magic.

I share Lhindir's concerns in large part, as well. Relying on good faith for a magic such as this seems... Risky, if I am to put it lightly. Definitely a gamble, especially in today's LoTC. Having experienced a mental magic being cast on myself before (I believe it was sensory illusion, wherein I was made to see a giant rat in my tavern) I do think that it can provide a wonderful RP experience, as it has for me in the past on the receiving end of it, I am unsure as to whether or not it should have such extreme power, or even any legitimate combat capability. Catalepsy in CRP is certainly unique as a spell, and I adore the thought of debuffs and such instead of directly combative abilities, it does seem a touch powerful for such a spell, but that might just be me. With only 3 emotes to cast it, and seemingly no way to avoid it, the ability seems like it needs some minor tweaking. An ability that, at first glance, is unavoidable with a 20 block range and able to target 3 people at t5 and debuff for 3 emotes does seem a tad heavy. I think it could be fixed by giving it some measure of counterplay, even if it was just a contested flat 20 roll between the players, as it is for ranged attacks atm. It also gives mages the ability to kite if used in conjunction with other magics, giving them a bit more practical durability, which I'm unsure how I feel about, given current conflict rules and a large lack of mobility spells. Perhaps that could be tweaked to halved movement speed, to future proof that aspect of the spell overall? So that way, even if we go back to 10 blocks per emote, the spell won't need changed to accommodate that in the future.

None of the other combative spells set off any red flags for me, and I can see them providing a rather unique experience. A master mage with a few magics altering someone's perception of the chosen battleground gives me some lovely vibes, and I think such a situation would be a fight to remember for all involved.

Overall, I think this is a wonderfully written piece. I love the idea of mentalists as debuff mages in CRP, and as these masters of the mind in less combative roleplay scenarios. While there are some concerns that need to be addressed with it, as Lhindir has brought up, I think it's got the potential to be a really solid addition to the current rp climate as a whole, provided, of course, it's kept in the right hands... Which seems to be what this magic relies on entirely. I'm curious to see how this pans out in the end, though I'm sure most, if not all, presented concerns will be addressed in its loremag and such. Provided that both caster and victim cooperate OOCly to create a fun experience, I can see more than a few stories coming about as a result of this magic, folktale style.

Imma give this a +1, but Lhindir made some really good points that need to be given heavy consideration. Good work, Zarsies!

(p.s, this was written at 2:40 AM while I was sleepy. Apologies for any rambling, repeated words/sentences, etc. I might fix it in the morning to make it more legible.)

  12. (OOC: The font low-key hurts my eyeballs, though I love how fancy you tried to make it. The idea of fancy little halflings that run about just trying to be helpful is enchanting, and the aesthetic you're going for is lovely, imo. I'm tossing this a +1, though I'd recommend you change the font to Times New Roman or something else easier on the eyes! Overall, a nice post, chief. Apologies for any formatting issues, I'm on mobile.)
