I'm really liking the idea of a proficiency system. Polish aside, it's a really cool middle ground to crp which is worth exploring.
Who wants to collaborate to flesh it out into something truly fun and fair?-
What I've written is the roughest of drafts but I've no problem with refining it if actual Devs/Mods are interested. I did not communicate it as well as I could have on the post, but I think alot of people missed the point of handrails for players/mods to shift away from always needing to /modreq a CRP, and of course A COMBAT TRIANGLE.
I noticed some Mages complaining that the Medium Armor perk that I posted, for instance, would be too imbalanced. They do not realize that providing a medium armor perk may cause people to NOT opt into Heavy Armor at all, resulting in more people wearing light/medium. With more people wearing light/medium, piercing attacks become far more commonplace - enabling spears and swords to counter. This way, the overall meta begins to shift away from BLUNT to something more balanced. -
The only real issue I see with medium armor is that it seems to heavily contradict what existing magic lore says. I don't see any issue with redistributing some of the details around but massively amending all magic lore [and making air evo worse] feels not like a good idea.
LoTC magic is just rough to work with bc no matter how you spin it, there are very very very few cases where a magic user can do anything more than a guy who grunts the spell and swings every emote + movement. I would argue prob the magic perk should be a strengthened connection to some extent rather than some -1 to spellcasting or +1 spellslot
