  1. The flames roared high, screams petulant throughout the field of battle. All around were corpses, arrows flying past, the stench of blood. Augustus Blackmont and his men were arrayed in a line, a score of them, looking on as the battle roared. His men kept their formation, and stayed in reserve, as the soldiers of the Order of the White Rose fought with ferocity against their Elfish foes. The scene was horrible to behold, blood and gore splattering the once pristine farms of the Kingdom of Malinor. All at once, a great roar was heard, the Elves had retreated back behind their walls - the reserves were being called up. ((Credits to Jade for above)) Augustus looked behind him, his men grim and lusty for slaughter. Yet he ordered a slow advance, planning to keep to a certain arrangement he had made earlier. With a sword raised, he led his soldiers towards the Elf walls, until all at once with a shout of "Blackmont!" the standard bearer Han charged. Augustus was powerless to stop the rest of his men from following suit, and all but his two bodyguards rushed into the slaughter. Bloody Fools. With a terrifying and booming voice, he began to relay orders. "Form up! Form up! Return to the li-" the shout was interrupted by an arrow. Then another. Then another. The Lord of Blackmont fell onto the ground, shaking, face first. He awoke to the sight of battle moments later, propped up against a ruined wall - his men trying desperately to shield him from oncoming arrows. He could feel nothing at all. He looked down to see two arrows protruding from his chest, another in his elbow. The blood drew freely and plentifully, soaking his garments. He sensed an overwhelming feel of dread at the thought of dying. My son, I must live for my son. With that thought, he faded back into unconsciousness, with death all around him. A day later, the Lord of Blackmont wastes away in his home of the Dreadfort, recovering for a few hours then burning up moments later. For such a simple battle, such an easy victory - the cost had been astoundingly high. What little vitality he had left to him is surely gone, his very survival uncertain. Only time can tell what will become of Augustus Blackmont, and the consequences should he pass.

  3. Letters are sent to the Greater and Noble Houses of Oren, as well to the various Kingdoms and Nations of Anthos bearing the sigil of the Flayed man. With the Declaration of war unto the Princedom of Malinor by House Chivay of the Westerlands of the Holy Oren Empire, the Lord of House Blackmont of the Dreadfort - akin to the same Empire, hereby upholds his holy marriage alliance by - likewise, declaring open warfare with the aforementioned Princedom of Malinor. Formal hostilies will be withheld for one elven week, to allow any time for negotiation. Should any elf commit any acts of hostility towards the men of Blackmont in this time, it will be considered outright that the Princedom has in turn declared war, and any attempts at peace talks halted. This declaration is made with no representation of any other Household in the Empire, save the direct vassals of Blackmont who are obliged to follow, and has no relation to the will of the Emperor. The Lord Blackmont wishes to make known his intention, to make his goal any objective set upon by House Chivay in this conflict, and promises the use of any means, unorthodox or immoral to accomplish such. As the House Chivay has not yet called Blackmont into their assistance, but received this support on the will of the Lord Blackmont alone, independent concessions can be made with this great Household by the Princedom of Malinor for the mission and purpose of peace and prosperity. So sent is this letter for the information of the various people on Anthos, so as to make safe as many lives as possible, and make as many aware as deemed necessary. To the Princedom of Malinor a letter almost identical to the others is sent, albeit with a few additions. To whomever now holds Malinor as High Prince, The news of the strife within your own nation is troubling, and threatens to upend the balance of power that has been maintained on Anthos thus far. As such, it is with generosity and a desire for peace that Lord Augustus Blackmont invites any dignitaries to him, so as to possibly avert conflict. Failure to do so will be seen as an acceptance of the road to war, and result in a refusal to accept any other diplomats until called upon by the House Blackmont directly. The letters are all signed, By the hand of Ser John Woods the Lefthand By the will of Lord Augustus Blackmont

  12. Walking past the notice board with his guards, Augustus Blackmont stopped and approached the average posting. He read it with a bare minimum amount of attention but felt strangely drawn to the cause. Whistling for ink and paper, he had a response written, which was posted in response to the original request. "To Miss Myoni Hartsdottir, Per your request for economic support, it is in the interest of the Lord Augustus Blackmont of the Dreadfort to donate a shipment of [thirty-two] iron ingots, to be used at your discretion to fund the library. It will be sent to you as soon as possible. He hopes that this resource will be put to good use for the advancement literature in the Empire."
  13. House Blackmont “Loved by None, Feared by All” House History: Following his return after 20 years of exile, August Flay - Lord of House Flay - reformed his renowned household with the blessing of the Emperor Godfrey in the Holy Oren Empire. Unfortunately for him, much had changed in the decades of his disappearance, and the paramountcy he once enjoyed in Oren politics was a thing of the past. New powers ruled in Oren. Unwilling to face the fact that his power had long since waned, August Flay allied himself with the Teutonic Order and challenged the Order of the White Rose; a grievous error on his part. Having not given himself enough time to gather his strength, House Flay was dealt a decisive defeat by the numerically superior Roses and their allies, and to all those in Oren and outside - appeared to have been shattered completely. Indeed it seemed this way in the aftermath. In his rage and denial, August Flay removed dozens of men from his service, murdered loyal subordinates, and began plotting his return to power. He hired sellswords, he gathered vassal houses. Most importantly, he sent a request to the Emperor. A change of his name, from the infamous Flay to the newly coined Blackmont. In this, August hoped to start anew, establish a new identity for himself and his men in the Empire. Having gathered what men he deemed loyal and fit, the first Lord Blackmont began plotting and planning, intent on retaking what he once held. In an effort to consolidate his position, Lord Augustus I hammered out alliances and took on new vassals, becoming liege to the Houses Carrion, Woods, Letholdus, and Greymane. Upon his arrival to the land of Anthos with his personal army, Lord Blackmont moved quickly to establish a new base of operations and wasted no time in resuming his activities of intimidation and terror. Peace never did last long when Lord Augustus Blackmont was involved. In a bid for more power and additional land, he declared formal war upon the Teutonic Order, relying on his terror tactics and superior numbers - albeit inferior organization. Additionally, a son was born to him by his wife, Lorin Chivay, the son that Augustus had prayed for for so many decades. With this new heir, Tiberius, born, Augustus groomed him from the beginning - so that he could properly assume control of House Blackmont upon his own death. With tensions only increasing along with the open conflict battle lines were drawn as different noble houses decided who they wanted to antagonize in the end, if any at all. At full strength and readily mobilized for war, House Blackmont geared itself to fight any that deemed necessary in order to advance in status and power. . Goals: The men of House Blackmont have but one will, that of their leader - the Lord of Blackmont. What he has in priority is known only to him truly, but the household and those who lead it have always been known to have an affinity for chaos and corruption. Their lust for power is unparalleled in the Empire, and their brutality is not matched by any other force that serves the Emperor. Responsibilities: Becoming a soldier for House Blackmont is taxing both physically and mentally. Tasks often are of a violent and immoral nature, including but not exclusive to: intimidation, robbery, murder, torture, and kicking babies. Nothing is off limits to a Blackmont man, if he knows what is best for him. Ranks: Base Ranks Lord of Blackmont: The head of House Blackmont, to be held by the eldest male relative to the previous holder of the title when deceased or deposed Captain of the Guard: Charged with the responsibility to lead soldiers into battle, this position is coveted as one to be held by only the most zealous, efficient, and cruel of Blackmont’s retainers. Sergeant of the Guard: As direct subordinates to the Captain of Guard, these men are charged to help manage the soldiers in times of battle and action in the field. Man at Arms: A professional soldier in service to the house, many of these men are in fact kidnapped at a young age for service. They fight for the household and are expected to complete any task by given a superior. They are expected to have few morals, an understanding of obedience and discipline, and a large sense of loyalty to their liege lord of Blackmont Unblooded: By no means kind or of compassionate disposition, unblooded men don the same uniform as the rest of the rank, but are simply noted to not have taken the final step to becoming a man of the Dreadfort. Specialty Ranks Men who hold specialty ranks are automatically assigned a rank that is above the common man-at-arms and Unblooded, but is under the authority of Sergeants and above. Master at Arms: A domestic position, the Master at Arms has the duty of training and organizing the Dreadfort garrison, in coordination with the Captain of the Guard. Quartermaster: The quartermaster is tasked with managing the supplies necessary to maintain House Blackmont at an optimum level. Spy Master: Subterfuge and deception has always been highly valued by Blackmont, and will continue to be valued. The Spy Master has the responsibility of keeping up to date on the affairs of Anthos, as well as delving into deeper missions. Equipment and Pay Upon joining this force, every man regardless of rank receives the following: -A suit of armor, the best available to be given out. -Weapons according to preference -Weekly food rations -Room for living, or assistance in acquiring a home Upon being promoted to the rank of Man At Arms, every man is entitled to the following: -An unlimited supply of armor, or as many suits required or available -Unlimited acces to the Blackmont weapons armory -Food rations on demand -A red bandanna or armband Blackmont men are not payed on a fixed basis, but are often payed based on the results on a given task or mission. In addition, all loot a man might be able to garner in raids and campaigns of war are his by right, and may not be taken from him. Requirements: IC: -A willingness to fight, and die, for the cause of House Blackmont and its Lord, whatever it may be. -An absence or lack of morals that may interfere in any work done in the name of House Blackmont - The ability to subordinate oneself to superiors and follow orders given -No current alliegences OOC: -Must have skype and Teamspeak -Must have or be willing to write a villain application with at least 1a,2a, and 2c -Must conduct themselves in a mature manner OOCly A flyer emblazoned with the flayed man of Blacmont hangs upon the jobs board in the various cities of the Holy Oren Empire. Joining: Those who wish to join the men of Blackmont and become true sons of the Dreadfort are required to send a letter - written by another if unable to read nor write - stating their intention to join while making it fully aware that said applicant understands the implications of joining (Send me a pm through the forums, after posting on the thread rp’ing sending the letter). Also possible is the option to approach the Captain of the Guard and inquire about openings (Message csalz96 in game).
  14. If I don't do this am I not a citizen
  15. He opened his eyes, having felt all the eyes trained on him, the unwelcome stares. He reveled in the cowardice of the nobles, too fearful to approach him. In turn he stared down each man or woman who presumed to look at him, feeling a hint of joviality when they set their eyes elsewhere, blushing. All except for one man, Peter Chivay, who was approaching him with a grace unhampered by his speed. Their eyes met, and both men gave the slightest of nods to one another - a sign of mutual respect rather then friendship. Under the watchful eyes of the White Rose sentries and Augustus' own men, they spoke in tones audible to only each other. Augustus kept his face hidden of all emotion, nodding in agreement occasionally, shaking his head no at times, and mumbling a muffled word through his blood red bandanna. Only once the conversation was reaching an end did Augustus allow himself to observe the environment again. Uthor Silverblade and his wife, doting on one another, the Hightowers arguing among themselves, and finally, Lord Carrion and a girl he did not recognize but vaguely remembered - dancing happily. Her name escaped him, but she had been present when he had taken Siegmund Carrion's eye for public drunkenness. He turned abruptly at the sound of Lord Chivay's voice, who was offering him a hand - an end to the talks, the reach of an agreement. He took the hand firmly, and shook briefly. He politely but bluntly refused to stay longer, making mention of his advanced age, and various physical conditions. He no longer had any reason to stay.He turned without a word and made for the exit, intent on leaving; his guards followed him like two shadows, wraiths skulking in the wood.
  16. The Lord of the Dreadfort once had a booming voice, thunderous and commanding. Now the guard adjacent to him had to crane his neck, straining to hear what the man had said. The various minor nobles directly next to him automatically lowered their voices as he spoke - it was no less eerie or threatening then the sharp contrast of his speech in his younger years. The man nodded once, uttered a low "m'lord", and paced towards his objective. The guard was of average build, especially distinguishable in his uniform, bearing the flayed man upside down. Before Lord Blackmont had "recruited" him he had been a poacher, even now nothing more then a commoner. Yet he walked with an arrogance and kept his head high in a confidence that few others in the gathering could hope to match. After a few moments, he reached the man he sought. The low born guard impudently grabbed at Lord Siegmund Carrion's shoulder, shaking him for his attention with unnecessary roughness. He jerked his head back to Lord Blackmont - who had taken to opening his fists and closing them again while staring intently at a knight. The guard kept his hand clamped tight onto Lord Carrion's shoulder as he whispered his message, finishing with a hiss. Promptly, he released his grip and made his way back to Augustus Blackmont, who now appeared to have fallen asleep while standing.
  17. Keep them coming guys, thanks. The ones I'm most interested to know about is House militaries, to see how many are actually left.
  18. This is an OOC post. I was just wondering, what are the various military Orders/Group that are officially sponsored by the Holy Oren Empire? The military subsection is really outdated, and not even close to complete. These range from everything like House militaries (i.e Blackmont bannermen) to military Orders (i.e The White Rose). I'd just like to get a general idea, because not all Houses have military branches to call upon, along with other random variables that I haven't put into consideration. If anyone here knows of/leads/is a part of a group that is OFFICIALLY in Oren, I'd appreciate if you told me, Thanks. List I have so far: Orders/Guard Forces: Order of the Red Dragon Teutonic Order Order of the White Rose Salvus Shields Houses: Stafyr Bannermen - Marquis Valois Bannermen - Ducal Blackmont Bannermen - Marquis Carrion Bannermen - Barony De Sarkozy Bannermen - Barony
  19. The guards bristled at Patrick's approach, but stayed put. A cold, emotionless stare was what the Duke Patrick received upon greeting Lord Blackmont. Two dark pits of emptiness. Augustus bowed his head slightly, as was befit a man of lower rank, but did not take the hand. "A pleasure, your grace. And aye, I am older, but wiser I should hope. I haven't attended one of these in...decades...I think, much too loud, much too...ignorant". Augustus eyed the Duke carefully, observing his monocle. He'd been told that House Denims has recently combined with Thervings, and with men already high up in the government, this was no alliance to be dismissed so quickly. The Lord Blackmont opened his mouth for a moment, covered by his bandanna, but closed it again - deciding against whatever he was about to say. He was still displeased that House Denims-Therving had had the gall to try and offer vassalage to a noble House started by one of his own bannermen. With the slightest of nods and a whisper quiet word, Augustus detached himself from the Duke, studying the crowd of nobles intently.
