  1. The Shadow looks to the court nodding, a crack of thunder marking the beginning of his speech to all spectrals, and sends out horsemen to carry his message. 'We Are your family, your kin. Today marks a great day in our court. A day where we rebuild, where we grow, and where we shall prosper. My fellow brothers and sisters, Join our court so we may all live by order within the shadows of the light's chaos and flames. Come hither, and follow, become apart of this court, and so it shall become a part of you." The Shadow listens to the quiet rush of the wind, watching the horsemen find their mark. ((The Court has been inactive for far too long. We are coming back and are open to new members. Come join some fun rp as the court takes on the light of day!))

  5. The Men of the Islands The Karkino people are a very short statured sub-type to humans, but have often been unknown to the rest of Athera. This is due to their nomadic style of living, and their arrival to the known world. The Karino people began when a group of 100 tribesmen descended upon the coasts many an age ago. They were overrun by an invading tribe, and forced to live by the desolate shoreline where only the indigenous giant crabs took refuge. The men, unaware of what was to come, did very little in their need to survive, often succumbing to hunger. The women and children, forced to hide amongst the shoreline woods in search of a new home. The men’s hunger soon grew and grew, until only but 3 remained. These three men struggled to live any longer, offering themselves to the giant crabs of the beach. The Crabs, in their wise age, took pity upon the men, and granted them 3 piles of eggs to do as they wished. The first man ate all the eggs at first sight, and was satisfied. He became known as The one of haste, whom acts without thinking with blindness. The second man let the eggs hatch, eating all the crabs once they matured. He became known as The one of Patience, whom waited with hope.\ The Third man let the eggs hatch as well, but only to where he had enough to satisfy. He allowed some to live, breeding them to produce more and more. As of then did he become the one of Knowledge, whom was wise in his ways. The Third man shared his food, his nourishment with the other two, showing generosity to those that needed it. Through his actions did the giant Crabs look kindly upon these men, and allowed the rest of the tribe to return. For many an age did the men live in harmony with the crabs, eventually taking on their habits. Many soon wore the crab’s armor, and burrowed under the sand for shelter. Even so, the descendants of the three men lead the Kakino people, empowering them to one day return to the mainland. However, greed struck the Descendants of haste, who all too eagerly brought themselves towards the land. Little did they know that catastrophe was soon to come. The great storm the elders called it, the storm that brought upon the demise of the descendants of haste. It came like a crashing wave, flooding all that the eye could see. Homes came to ruin as crabs were flown across the beach. The storm raged for days without end as the tribe struggled to bury themselves into the wet sand. As the storm passed, those that survived came out for air, only to discover that there was no longer land surrounding them. Only ocean remained. The tribe was in chaos as the descendants could do nothing for their people. The crabs that had supplied them with food, shelter, and protection no longer were there. Yet, out of the corner of a descendant of patience was a sparkle. The sparkle of eggs. For within the sand was one sack of eggs on their own floating island. One set of eggs to save them all. And so did they wait for the coming of the crabs, who were fairly smaller in size compared to that of their predecessors. The karkino people thrived for ages as their floating island brought them new hope. Until yet another storm hit, one so large, none could anticipate it. It brought on black skies, rushing waves, and dangerous winds that shook the floating island. The storm raged and raged as the people of the island took shelter, but were unable to burrow deep enough to avoid such winds. As the storm subsided, the people of the island awoke to a new discovery. Land. Not just any land, but the same place that their ancestors had told stories of. The lush fields, the tall trees, everything that they had promised that remained. But only one thing was different. The strange, unknown structures of the citizens of Athera. The people who had now occupied the mythical land. Little was known, but new things were seen for their future. The future of The karkinos. The karkino people -apperance The karkinos have lived many generations over seas, and so they have taken a much more tanned skin tone, often having black hair. Their short height and stature are a result of their living style, often burrowing under the sand to create shelter. Their height ranges from roughly 4’8 to 5ft upon reaching adulthood. Since the karkinos often have a crab as their companion, the individual size of the crabs have diminished over the years. This is mainly due to the inbreeding the crabs had done to survive. Since their size has gone down to that of a small dog or house pet, the tribe members will often wear their crab as protection from the sun. This is quite common, and is considered respectful at tribal events. -clothing The islanders wear little clothing, but this is mainly made up of seaweed, driftwood, fish scales, or crab shells. While having little contact with any other resources besides the small amount of vegetation on their island, they could not make many things. Often enough, their tools and weapons were created from wood, bones, or crab claws. -Pets/food The pets and “livestock’ if you will, of the islanders are their crabs. These crabs are not the ones indigenous to Athera, but are bred smaller due to minor birth defects from the first storm. They will appear the same as the giant crabs, but take on the size of a small dog. Eating habits The Karkinos diet includes various plants that are common on the Athera shoreline, as well as seaweed. Also, meat is a very large part of their diet, often coming from crabs, otherwise sea birds. Little to no seasoning is used besides the fervesco pepper, a main ingredient that adds unbearable spice. Culture -government The karkinos have a very basic government, often ruled by a descendant of Knowledge. Then, this man is advised by a descendant of patience, as the two are considered royal families. The leader, or dux, manages the tribe. The advisor is called the sult, and provides advice to the dux. There are also very few laws, as the people lived to survive for their entire lives. However, if an act is committed such as murder, the culprit is faced to the crab pits, where they feast upon the body. otherwise, the individual is exiled from the tribe, left to roam the ocean (now land) and is never to return. While the descendant often makes the final decision, it is up to the people as to whether or not kill the individual. -economy Trade and bartering is also a very well known custom known among the men. Since many did have to rely on others, these transactions became widely used for generations. Living styles -housing The islanders burrow into the sand to form small rooms. No matter who you are, the sand burrow remains to the owner’s discretion. However, many advised not to spend too long within the burrow, otherwise it may collapse. An average home is fairly small, simple, and lacks precious items. This tends to be limited to a single room, as they only use what they need to survive. Warrior lifestyle Since the karkinos feared what had lain in the water, many often found one another to become warriors. This often was handled through weapons, fists, or even pets. These would occur throughout the island to settle grudges, show dominance, or even just for practice. Since there were no military, the best warrior was generally the general, or kun. He or she would band together with the warriors, often hunting rather than fighting. None the less, many were skilled in combat, and their strategies often included various techniques such as fast paced movements, or fast attacks. Training started at the young age of 10, where the child is acquainted with a crab egg. This crab egg is considered holy, and shall hatch into the child’s companion. If the egg were to die, or the crab to die, there is no replacement. Those that do not have a companion are often considered below all others, whether it be a child or man. The child would learn from the current warriors, often joining hunts with their chosen mentor. Upon reaching the age of 15, they are considered hunters and warriors, who will gain the opportunity to train others as well. Those too old to fight become an elder, who also helps to advise the dux. Religion The islanders all are told the story of the three men as children, and they all look to them as true rather than legend. They all often see the giant crabs as guardians, considering them holy beings created by the water. Since that is where they lived for so long, the Karkinos began to think that a behemoth crab carried the universe upon is back, and it chose what was to happen to those surviving off of it. many unexplained deaths or murders were rooted to this reason, as well as the crabs being the holy children of the behemoth. The behemoth crab is often called the karah, which means strength in their language Communication The karkinos talk using clicks and grunts, otherwise they talk in broken common-tongue that has been taught to those who have been in contact with the citizens of Athera. This can be followed by words used primarily by the karkinos, providing various ways of communication. -short click _long click *grunt _ - - * = man _ - - * * = Woman _ - * * = Young male/female _ - * - = Elves _ - - - _ = dwarves _ - - - * = Halflings _ - * = Orcs _ - * * * = Kha ( Every one of these start with _ - to show a race) _ * = Weapon _ * - - = Soldier/warrior _ * * - - = General _*_*- = Leader ( _ * is for weapon, or show aggression) _ _ * - = Crab _ _ * - * = Giant crab _ _ - = meat _ _ - * - - = Bird meat _ _ - - - = Vegetables (seaweed. greens, etc) ( _ _ shows things that are consumed or needed) _ - - * = Dux/ leader _ - - * _ = Sult/ advisor Common phrases Dux = leader Sult = advisor Karah = crab behemoth/crab god/ strength (More to come later for language and phrases) -Appearance IG -Housing -floating island(island that moves over bodies of water) http://imgur.com/yHRhFLI,MEtE37F,240PqQU,H9LOcGg#0 (This was all built from scratch, and is what would be expected as the home of the karkinos) Geography The floating islands were created during the storm. Dude to large deposits of sandstone, limestone, and clay, the mixture created a light, but strong form of sandstone that allows the sand to float above it as if the land were an island itself. The life found on the small islands are often believed to have been there previously, which resulted in the vegetation that allowed for the tribe to survive. The second storm that has brought the islands back to Athera has damaged some of the island chains, and would appear to be different than what was seen within the ocean. The Forest The forest found within the small island chain is the main birthplace of the crab eggs. The pregnant females often go to the center of the forest to lay their eggs in piles where they grow, hatch, and can be harvested by the Karkinos.

  8. Notes from Doctor Shulik M. Heinrich Day 1- I have traveled through the lands of Athera many a time, and explored searching for new aliments to cure infectious diseases found within wounds. It has taken many months to do such a task, but so far many plants carry special qualities that can be used for pain. Currently, my research has taken me to a forest where many creatures seem to roam. Day 2- My journey has taken me to a small forest not too far off from Werdenberg. Roughly a few days walk. What has drawn myself to this area is the abundance of cervitar found. I have noticed their eating habits while looking and have found out some properties of the flora they consume. Day 3- Further exploration of the forest has brought me to the findings of a cave system. Local fungi also have brought me to these caves. They appear quite peculiar, and I plan to explore for any new signs of life that could help with any diseases. Day 4- The caves are deep and hold many secrets. i have noticed a large amount of bat droppings, some that seem to be in rather large areas. But so far these caves have been treacherous, and so I must continue once i regain my strength. Day 5- I had to evacuate the cave, for Some of the indigenous cave bats swarmed over me. They appeared to be rather large, and I have had several wounds in the process. So far a large bite on my forearm indicates that these creatures are too dangerous to venture back. I shall return back to my home and catalogue my findings Day 9- So far, the bite has swelled. The area is red with infection, and any acts seem to produce a larger infected area. i have applied several medicinal leaves to soothe the wound. hopefully it heals soon. Day 14- Sleep has become difficult. So far the wound has not healed, and the infection is spreading. My entire body is no longer at rest as I break out into sweats randomly. I do not know what has caused such a thing but so far the results are inconclusive. Day 19- I am coughing up blood, and my body grows ever weaker, I can hardly eat, let alone sleep. The sunlight burns as the pigment in my skin is lost. My nails have grown exponentially, And my teeth have been falling out. I want to die, This disease is giving me more pain than I can ever handle. Please. One dark day as a thunderstorm raged, you walk into the Doctor’s home, expecting a light greeting. The air is musty, and you shiver as the cold night brings chills up your spine. You make your way into the livingroom, blood scattering the floor. Your body begins to shake, and you jump as a crack of thunder echoes through the small room. You can barely speak as you rush for the main office within the home. The door creaks slightly as you slam it open, and gaze in shock. The doctor was dead in a pool of his own blood. His eyes wide open, white as the moon. His skin was also pale, lacking any pigment. His nails were grotesque in their length as his body laid cold. You gasp in sheer shock before turning your head away from the man, tears streaming down your cheeks. You run outside for help as two guards catch your voice. They run up to the door’s entrance, their mail shuffling in the rain. Their eyes open wide in shock upon hearing the news. “Dear God. The Doctor? what happened?” Asked the first soldier. “I’m...I’m not sure” you answer, glancing behind you. “Show us where the body is.” asked the second soldier, preparing himself for the gruesome scene. You walk with the soldiers into the room, as everyone’s jaws drop. The Doctor was sitting up, but his head lay downwards as he rocked his body back and forth, muttering un recognizable words. “Doctor! Doctor are you ok? What happened?” he didn’t answer. You feel a sudden burst of courage as you walk slowly towards the man, his grey hair stained with his own blood. You jump back as The doctor screams in pain as blood pours out of his mouth. The soldiers gasp as sharp teeth soon protrude from the gums, blood splattering the ground before them. The Doctor’s screams continue to echo before he drops to the ground, dead once more. “Oh my god..” exclaimed the first soldier. The second didn’t know what to say. “we need to….dispose of the body...It’s infected with something, I remember him complaining about being sick just a few days ago.” The Second soldier nods as the small group walks out of the room. The Doctor’s eyes open, no longer white, but now a blood red. “We can't just leave the body!” you shout, angry at the soldiers. “Fine, bring the body. But be careful before touching it.” You walk back into the small room, and gasp. The soldiers rush in as their minds go blank. “Wh...Where is he?” Mumbled the second soldier. Suddenly the door shuts closed, making everyone jump. “Doctor?” You shout. “Are you there?” “What do we have here today….” came a small voice. “Feeling sick?....Feeling…..dead…?” The voice chuckled as it appeared in the doorway, breathing heavily. “Doctor! are you ok?” said the first soldier. “yes, I am...Just…feeling weak…” The doctor’s red eyes flare up as he charges at the soldier. slashing his jugular with his long, sickly nails. The second soldier attempts to draw out his blade, but his neck snaps from behind. Both bodies fall and land on the floor, the blood pool growing. you try to run away, back towards the front of the house. But in your path, was the doctor covered in the soldiers blood. “You look sick...I can ure that” he chuckles as he charges for you as well. You raise your are in front of your face, hoping to shield your eyes away from your own demise. all you can feel is a sudden burst of pain in your arm, screaming from its suddenness. You move your arms away and bolt for the door, seeming to be ajar. The rain has continued through the events as you stumble across town, hoping everything was a dream….. Vampyrica, The blood sickness vampyrica is the contamination of blood. ,It is very rare to contract such a disease, as your body is very capable of fighting the infection. However, the disease itself rewrites your genetic code, turing your own blood into a sustenance incapable of supporting your body. This causes for the need to consume blood from any source in range. there are several stages of this disease before it becomes incurable. Stage 1- 4 days infected The First bite: When your blood comes into contact with contaminated blood. Must like a tick can transfer diseases by biting, an infected patient can do the same. The bite will begin to swell and grow red. Stage 2- 9 days infected The weakness: Your body will begin trying to fight off the infection, causing you to feel weak. You will soon become sleep deprived and sweat often. The infection will either spread at this stage or remain the same. Stage 3- 14 days infected The Changing: if you have not gotten better, you will go through the changing. Soon your teeth will fall out, and you will cough up blood as well. Not only will your nails begin to grow rapidly, the pigment in your skin is lost due to your blood not supplying enough oxygen to the skin. Stage 4- 20 days infected The blood: Your body shuts down for several days as the last genetic changes are made. once this is complete, your mind will come out of the comatose state and set in place the final aspects of the disease. After several moments of being awoken, your new teeth will burst out of your gums painfully, and it is common for you to pass out after as well. once you regain consciousness from that, your eyes will be a dark red, and will grow brighter each time you feed. The disease itself is not bred to spread, but to live within its host. so it is very rare to see an infected vampyric attempt to infect another. They usually rather feeding and killing their prey. Also, once infected, the victim no longer has a sense their previous life, but will retain all memories. Their priorities just change to meet their new needs. vampyrics can often sense another infected by smell, as their senses are heightened. This allows them to know who to attack, and who not to. Also, vampyrics often hold higher respect for those whom have been infected the longest, since cell reproduction increases to cause somewhat of a preserved state. This can cause small groups to follow elder vampyrics, creating hunting pacts that are extremely dangerous. There are many different pros and cons that come with being a vampyric pros: -heightened senses -agility -preserved state (Does not age) -weapons grows on hands (fingernails) cons: -skin burns in daylight -a constant hunger for blood to support body -pale skin and bright red eyes (Easy to distinguish in a crowd) appearance: often wearing dark robes, hoods, and clothing to cover their skin, Vampyrics are very sensitive to light. This comes with their pale skin as well. Also, their finger nails will be very long, and grow quickly as a defense mechanism for the disease. They are still ordinary nails, and can be cut off by blades, or any other means. Their eyes are a dark red, but grow brighter after feeding. This allows for one to tell if they have killed recently or not. Behaviors: vampyrics often live in solitude, or under a disguise if possible. otherwise, they hunt in packs, often having an aged vampyric as their leader. a vampyric must feed as well, otherwise their blood cannot support their own body, resulting in death. Red Lines: -you must burn in the sunlight -your nails take 1 ig day to grow back, so if broken it cannot grow back -you must feed often or you will have to die -You cannot become one by simply being bit. you must rp the entire process and roll to see if you survive or change. -You cannot stab someone with your nails. Nor can it go through armor. Only can it cut skin If accepted, there will be 4 or so spots open to play in a single pack (so the server isn't overrun and the process is still considered rare) Feedback is appreciated. note this is not a new race, it is a disease that infects and corrupts the body.

  10. Obviously, powergaming is seen as a big problem with possession. i can understand how it can be powergamed, and the conflicts in RP that could come of it. Now i want to see more ghosts here and there to bring about new rp situations. Possession is one of those abilities that we all have seen with the shows and movies everywhere, whether it was a demon or a spirit. So i feel that this should be in-game, but due to the threat of powergaming, it can only be used by those who qualify. I can create an app for those who want to use possession, who will swear to use it wisely or else their privileges can be revoked, and even a possible temp-ban if it continues. With that being said, that system can only work if the players rp properly, and report it if it happens truthfully. Now knowing how these things go, there will be issues so proof will need to be present just like bans need proof before the person is kicked from the server. apps for previous things such as magic did work for a time, so this app being used for the use of a power can work. another problem will be those that may lie about having their app accepted, and so i would post a list of those who can possess others on an ooc ghost q/a topic if problems arise. This is simply an idea if you all choose to compromise rather than -1 the idea
  11. Both changes have been made, any more feedback is greatly appreciated
  12. *Note* This has been reduced to the point where it is fair for both sides of RP. feel free to give feedback *An old notebook lies upon a dusty shelf, its binding showing the years it has suffered* -=-Within the Shadows there is more to Fear-=- Throughout the planes of existence, there holds the spirits of the dead. Often do mortals think of these spirits as entities capable of no more than illusions and tricks, but they can do so much more… A spirit can possess objects, often scaring the victim, or killing in many cases. This is a known fact to those who hunt such beings, returning them to the light. But what remains unknown to all is their abilities that come with age. For what I have found to be true, the older the being, the stronger it becomes. So it brings me to this conclusion. These beings can possess a mortal man, gaining control of his body and its functions for a period of time. Over various accounts, spirits have been known to have this ability, mainly due to their different plane of existence. This plane allows them to pass through barriers, appear transparent, and as stated, possess objects. Their ability to use their energy and manipulate it into the shape of the object is astounding. The object becomes a shell for the spirit’s energy, allowing for full control. The spirits are capable of doing the same with mortal bodies. They enact the same process of drawing in energy from the life around them. https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/115553-lore-when-ghosts-get-the-munchies/?hl=%2Bwhen+%2Bghosts+%2Bmunchies Through this, they can create an energy barrier that surrounds the mortal’s soul and allows for the body to become a shell for the being. However, the body can only remain as a shell for a short period of time, as it requires large amounts of energy to keep the soul barrier strong. Depending on the power of the being, the time can range from a few minutes to an hour. This can vary with the amount of energy drawn from the surrounding life. I have noticed, though, that regardless of the possession, the spirit cannot use other spectral powers within the mortal shell. This comes back to the amount of energy required to do so, and thus they cannot use multiple abilities at the same time. But with various subjects, whom were possessed, often hade baggy eyes, ice cold skin and small muscle spasms every few minutes. These are signs of a possession, and should be handled with care. One theory, though it is unproven, is that the soul can combat the spirit. With enough willpower, the mortal being's soul can break the barrier of the spirit, sending the being back out of the body. This occurs in extremely rare cases, but seems to be possible regardless. Use this information wisely, for within the shadows there is more to fear. -anonymous researcher Summary: Ghosts and spectral beings have the ability to create a soul barrier, turning the mortal body into a shell for possession. The possession cannot last for long, and much more powerful(older) spirits can hold the shell longer. Red Lines: -You cannot use multiple abilities during possession -You cannot control the mortal’s thoughts, nor influence them. You can only have control of the body as if you were mortal again. -If you get stabbed, you will not feel pain, but can be handicapped by the injury. -If you are stabbed with any weapon made of gold, it will destroy the barrier and release the possession ability on the mortal. -You cannot control bodily functions (ex. throwing up, urinating, etc) while possessed. -You MUST wait to posses another body until you have absorbed more energy (1 hour due to large amounts of energy used) -You MUST rp to the standards of spooky rp and possession. This includes the effects on the body and overall actions of the spirit -if a cleric comes and removes the spirit, the spirit must restore energy upon its removal. This will prevent any further possessions made by this specific spirit, however, if another spirit is present, it can posses the body after the first spirit’s removal. -The player being possessed gets to roll as to whether or not the soul can fight the spirit. This will only work if the roll is higher than the ghost's to simulate stronger willpower in the character -Mortals with 2 souls require more energy, and can only be held for a short period of time.
