The Old Lion’s Passing The Last Will and Testament of Sir Robert ‘Robyn’ Joseph de Lyons, Viscount Emeritus of Enderoca, Magister Emeritus of Balian 1900-2030 I.T. | 33-163 B.A. Sir Robyn de Lyons would go into a fit of coughs as he’d sit on the cart, as he’d ride once more into exile in the desert. Once more, as he remembered days past, when Archduke Constanz of Petra, before that Constantine of Balian, was deposed, and he had fled before to Balian. A refugee, a Commoner, son of a Knight and a Lady, a common family on the rise in Petra, until their lives were torn asunder in a fortnight. He started to doze, though he did not realize it, and fell into a dream he had many times. He aided his mamej, Juliana Vernhart, with some papers and ink, occasionally flipping through a children’s book as he heard the door open below, as he rushed down to greet his père, Sir Arthur de Lyons. His mother followed eventually, and Elaine, as the four shared a meal, laughing and talking, though the voices and faces seemed distant. Could he remember his mother’s voice, his father’s face besides its likeness in painting or stone? But, happiness covered, thought, a knock came at the door, and the Archduchess came in, and a dread built in his mind. He wanted to warn his father, to call out of the coming betrayal, but could do naught, and the dream shifted, the demons of war coming in their monstrous forms as his father pressed a warhammer into his hands and went to hold for court, but then malflame leapt out from the wooden roofs and the windows, setting the castle in stark relief, and the demons of grief and war numbed his mother’s tongue so it did not work again, though there was no harm to it. And as he ran from the terrors he awoke from the dream, muttering to himself, and wondering...would his mother would speak or be silent in the skies beyond? And would his father be proud of what he became? He was quite warm on the cart as it’d roll through the dunes. The desert was warm and dry - perhaps too much so, for one of his age. He’d cough again, some phlegm and blood. Perhaps it was not just the desert. The desert had been warm when he had come to Balian as well, a boy shy of ten, and not just in climate. Truly it was the kindness of distant relatives he had never met who took him, his siblings, and his mother in regardless, and taught him all they could, and those far above his station who became friends to him and those who came with him. The names and recollections were fresh on his mind as if they were yesterday, even as time made the faces and details fuzzy - his sister Elaine, his friends, Casamir, August, Albert, Elowyn, Eloise - who came with him from Petra to Corbenic or Balian. His mentors - Ledicort Vuiller, Johanne Vuiller, Gaius var Ruthern, and King Alexander. And his new friends - his cousin Helane, Prince Hadrian, Princess Lydia, and Princess Elena, who became his wife. He remembered balls and hunts, descending into dark caves, back to back with Elena, aiding the druids in saving a bokolo from the Mori’quessir, before any knew that it would be them that would drive us from Almaris. He remembered lessons on politics from Ledicort and Johanne, leading his first trial with King Alexander as judge, remembered hours sitting writing the laws of Balian and assuring they were kept. He remembered growing orchards and vineyards and helping keep forests, helping build houses and surveying their new home as they commissioned plans for their castle. He remembered nights talking with Elena, sitting in the preserve behind the city on the slopes of Monterosa, the wind rippling across the water and through the leaves. He remembered the eve in the cherry grove north of the city when he gave his sash, and their wedding by the Grotto on Ledicort’s Rest, and later that night when he was made a Baron. He remembered the Kingdom rising around him, bustling and spreading across the mainland and the islands, and the next generation with it - Tristan, Percival, and Caelia, his children; Demetrius and Charlotte - his wards, and the former later his friend. Of Queen Sybille as she grew, and her descendants King Alexander and King John - all of whom he served, and watched live and die, as he grew bent with age. He watched a nation grow and change around him, and now it has fallen - the place that once felt so secure, fallen back to refugees. Though most he known had died or disappeared long before that, and yet he lived. Sometimes he wondered which was the greater pain - to die young as his father had, and only be able to watch your legacy from the skies, or to keep living for over a century, to grow tired, and see your friends, your wife, and even some of your children die before you. He coughed again, more phlegm, more blood, as he dozed back into feverish sleep, though a part of him knew he would never again fully wake. He dreamt of good times, of happy, but always the same demons would chase him - war, injustice, death. He could try to fight them, but whatever he did, he could not see them slain. Adria warred them, then Veletz, then the Church. He ran trials, he wrote laws, he took wards, provided advice. He retired so new blood could take over, and he became involved again when they disappeared. And yet it took all - his wife, his son, his friends, his mentors, and those he was a mentor for. His mind wandered to an argument with Elena which he thought routine, and then finding her corpse a few days later before they had reconciled. He remembered speaking to Percival when he was young about honor, and how those who broke their oaths and forfeited honor made themselves like beasts, and he remembered hearing of his son’s death and bearing his pall. He remembered Tristan’s exit, with all its tension after all his success, him going to sail to seas to not be seen again. He remembered seeing his mother Juliana on her deathbed in Enderoca, signing to her, but still not speaking, even as she gave him her old ribbon and passed on. He remembered Hadrian and Andromeda and Elena and him hearing of Johanna’s death, and mourning his niece. Time and space jumbled, as he remembered the good times and the loss. And yet another appeared in the chase - Time. Time which rotted nations. Men, and trees alike, and took the old with whom he was friends, until he was all that was left. And now it stooped over him, as he looked on it at first with terror. But, as his thoughts calmed, and his resolve settled, his expression shifted from one of pain to a slight smile, and the shape shifted, to that of his father, his mother, his wife, his friends, and angel. And as he’d look above, he’d think he’d see them, in the open clouds that formed the firmament, and hear faint calling and voices, as his smile would grow and he’d let out a sigh, remarking, voice weak, and labored between coughs “Mon heure est venue, j'ai achevé mon combat. Père, Mère, Mon amour, je rentre enfin à la maison...” To my Heir, Theodore de Lyons, and his children: To Future Magisters and Leaders of the Balianese People: ((OOC Notes))

The Vuiller Succession 10th of Lothar’s Gift, 178 BA The past decades have been ones filled with great pain and regret, our House and the Kingdom torn asunder. A new age for our people is born, as it was in when John the First fled across the desert with his people nigh two centuries ago, with Don Rev Vuiller and our other ancestors beside him. But a new age requires new leadership, not an old man wallowing in his regrets and losses, and his duties failed. Thus, from henceforth, I, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, formally abdicate the title of Duke of Aquilae to my grandson and heir, Godrick Vuiller, Baron of San Haraldo. May he lead our family back to its glory, and help repair what has been lost and what has been severed, and keep our oaths and good name, as we have in centuries past and shall for centuries to come. Signed, The Most Honorable, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, Duke of Aquilae Cavalier of the Order of St. Michael, Royal Sentinel of the Kingdom of Balian The Honorable, Godrick Vuiller, Baron of San Haraldo
-
The elder Vuiller would hear the news and hold back a sob, as he'd return to his room, letting out cries of pain as he'd hit the bed and walls "My children, all my children...God...why must I outlive them...see them fall away...All I have loved...Oh Jo..." he'd mutter to himself between sobs as he'd take to bed, the old Duke grown yet more reclusive as he ponders his faults, the ravages of time, and the cruelty of God's fate, calling for a bottle of his own.
-
Sir Marcel Vuiller would nod as he'd read the missive, before quickly penning on his signature "As Rev followed John the Founder into the Desert, we shall follow John the Second on to the end, whatever that end may be." He'd say, remarking to his children and grandchildren "St. Harald fought against cults and subversions beside Pontiff St. James II, and yet Cardinal Johan, Saint Harald's son, did not capitulate to the corrupt Pontiff after him, even at the cost of his titles and reputation. Sir Rev followed John the Founder, even when many of our Kin and the Imperialists were massacred in our very halls. As did Father Ledicort the First, as did the later Countess Johanne. We have always held our oaths, and kept our faith, against corruption, against tyranny, against genocide. Better we stand now with our honor among friends whether in life or death, triumph or defeat, then to forsake our bonds and our legacy for safety, for comfort, or for fear." He'd then draw his sword up in salute "AVE BALIAN! IN HOC SIGNO VINCES! CUM AQUILIS LONGE VICTORES REGNAMUS! May Saint Harald and Saint James II watch over those ancestors of theirs who stay true!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Prince Alexios would read the missive sent by his people, a weak smile cracking his otherwise dour demeanor "Our people stand with us, frate...even when darkness encircles us! We cannot fail them. In Hoc Signo Vinces!" he'd remark to his brother and nephew, though his tone would be quiet and troubled despite his attempt to be reassuring, before he'd frown again in silence, thinking of the friends he may face against again, and the growing doom that haunts his dreams. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The ancient Kritai would squint through thick reading glasses as Sir Robyn de Lyons looked over the missive he had signed in a scrawl "Well...the land that took me in faces the same dread fate as the land of my birth...the House de Lyons shall again be made refugees, more likely than not, like I was, and Elaine... Or martyrs as my Father..." he'd remark as he'd glance to the bust of Sir Arthur upon his desk "But we shall face it. For our blood, for our oaths, for our honor. And grow the stronger for it...though Elena and Adrian shall give us all an earful in the Skies should we fail our realm...If they speak to me there..." he'd mutter as he'd gaze off blankly over the hold, hands trembling with age as he'd fumble for his cane, pushing himself to his feet and shambling off to bed, muttering to himself about the ghosts of his past.

ANNOUNCEMENT of the PATRIARCH OF VUILLER THE DISOWNMENT OF LEDICORT OF LEMON HILL In the year of our Lord, 4th of Sigismund’s End 154 B.A The Disownment To this day, blood and honor holds ties as one. Thus it is always a day of sorrow when a member of our flock strays from the path set forth by our ancestors. To falter in the ways of St. Harald, and to spit at the values one has been taught since their early childhood. And as our house is one to uphold not only the scrolls given to us by the four Exalted. As each text brings us a lesson of value it has always been believed at each Vuiller must learn the paths of Ex. Horen, Ex. Godfrey, Ex. Owyn and Exalted Sigismund alike. Along these values, comes that of our sworn oaths to that of the Good King John II of Balian. A man in which our house has followed closely since his youth, as we have seen him succeed in each and every trial set before him. It has always been clear that the House of Vuiller stands by his Majesty John II and his House and the Royal Bloodline of Balian. It is due to this and his actions leading up towards the war that we hereby disown and disinherit Ledicort Alexander Vuiller. He shall no longer be allowed to carry the name of Vuiller, and future children of Ledicort may not take the name of Vuiller. Yet we shall allow his currently living children by his late wife Emilja Whitewood to keep their names and ties to our House should they declare their loyalty to that of House Vuiller and the Crown of Balian over their loyalty to that of their Father. The disowned shall be known by the name of Veranza the bastard name of House Vuiller created by his former Grace Johan Stor Vuiller, the Duke of Aquilae, a name only held twice before by any born Vuiller. We shall pray for the soul of Ledicort Veranza, and hope that he one day may find the path to redemption in the eyes of God. But know that his ties to our own house have forever been severed and burnt. As declared by, His Excellency, the Patriarch of House Vuiller and Duke of Aquilae Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller

Legate’s Report of 142 B.A. A Summary of John II’s Foreign Affairs 2009 I.T. By Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller Overview The years before the affirmation of John II as King of Balian were quiet in terms of diplomacy, as the Regency was limited in its ability to pursue meaningful relations with other nations; however, since around the start of John II’s reign, there has been a flurry of diplomatic activity for the nation. Thus, it was deemed wise to publish a comprehensive report of these activities to inform the population of the Nation on our diplomatic status, and to seek to recruit new diplomats to the Office, to help maintain close, regular, and friendly relations with our friends and allies. In all, we have signed five treaties within the reign of John II - a renewal of our longstanding defensive alliance with Haense, along with treaties of recognition, non-aggression, legal cooperation, extradition, military cooperation against Darkspawn, trade, and friendship with Reinmar, Hyspia, Haelun’or, and Celia’nor. These pacts should lead to the availability of a wide array of foreign goods in the Balianese Market, along with an opportunity for Balianese merchants and craftsmen to sell their goods abroad in our Treaty Stalls. We also plan to have collaborations between La Cort de la Taronja and these other nations to host joint cultural festivals to further foster friendship, understanding, and cultural exchange between our nations. We have also opened relations and dialogs towards pacts with Ravenmire and Petra, to further secure our peace, friendship, and cooperation with the rest of Canondom. On Treaties: The Pact of Monterosa: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/243159-the-pact-of-monterosa/ A Pact of Sand and Snow: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/242968-a-pact-of-sand-and-snow/ Tratado del Dorada: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/243066-tratado-del-dorada/ The Pact of Purple and Silver: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/243015-the-pact-of-the-purple-and-the-silver/ Treaty of Starry Saints https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/243598-treaty-of-starry-saints/ On Recruitment The most important parts of diplomacy are trust, communication, respect, and understanding, as upon these foundations true friendship is built. Thus, it is a priority of this administration to do all we can to facilitate strong and regular communication between ourselves and our friends and allies. In order to do this, we would like to build a strong, large core of diplomats, each to serve as an ambassador to a nation, so that there may be regular, friendly dialogue - casual or official - with each of our friends, and so each may receive the proper attention deserved them. To apply, one should meet the following requirements: Diplomats should be at least 16 years of age Diplomats should be Balianese Citizens Diplomats should be willing to visit the nation to whom they are assigned at least once each Saint’s Week, to maintain active communication, friendship, and situational awareness Diplomats should be aware of proper etiquette, apt with the pen, and in good legal standing with Balian If one is interested in Foreign Affairs, but is too young or inexperienced to take the full office of Diplomat and Ambassador immediately, they may join the Office as a Ward to learn the trade. They will be given tasks according to their experience and age to help to learn how treaties are structured, diplomatic etiquette, cultural literacy, writing, and any similar skills by shadowing the Legate or another Ambassador in their work, before eventually being elevated to their own appointment, should they prove competent. The requirements for Wards are as follows: Wards should be at least 8 years of age Wards should be Balianese Citizens Wards should have an interest, willingness, and eagerness to learn and excel, so they may work towards a full position The nations which we see as the priority for assigning ambassadors are the ones we have already established relationships with: Haense, Reinmar, Hyspia, Haelun’or, Celia’nor, Petra, and Ravenmire. If enough can be gained to fill these spots, we shall consider making appointments to other nations beyond this as well. On Appointments In the preliminary search for diplomats, a few interested people have been found and placed into appointments: Malcolm d’Arkent is appointed Ambassador to Haense Laurelie Vuiller is appointed Ambassador to Celia’nor Achillius d’Arkent is appointed Diplomat, with his post to be determined Ledicort Vuiller is appointed Diplomat, with his post to be determined Odrin Falkner is appointed Diplomat, with his post to be determined Signed, HIS EXCELLENCY, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, Duke of Aquilae, Cavalier of the Order of St. Michael, Royal Sentinel of Balian, Royal Legate of the Kingdom of Balian

The Segnoria Meeting of 135 B.A. 14th of Peter’s Glory, 135 B.A. Issued by Gran Don Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller Section I: Initial Concerns and Petitions: On Inactive Peerages: Countess d’Arkent asked about what would be done to look into peerages that have been silent, shirking duties, or otherwise struggling. Count Temesch replied that the Princess Kathryn was concerned about similar issues, and proposed a committee led by Princess Kathryn and Countess d’Arkent to speak with, offer aid to, and evaluate struggling peerages. Viscountess-Regent de Lyons asked if such measures would extend to concerns about taxation, and Count Temesch said it would. Section II: The Election of the Gran Don: The Candidates: Countess Esfir d’Arkent ran on her previous experience as head of the Courts, a representative for d’Arkent, and a representative for her previous house in Haense on the Duma. She encouraged better communication and management of houses, especially inactive ones, to push for a more active peerage. Duke Marcel Vuiller ran on his previous platform of pushing for regular meetings, greater communication and fellowship between peers, and the need of a strong hand and union among the peers to move forward into the new era dawning. He also cited his experience representing his house and as Legate. Both candidates spoke of their respect for each other as options. Viscountess-Regent de Lyons stepped forward to inquire if anyone who did not already hold position would step forward, but none did, so the measure moved to a vote. The Vote: Duchy Aquillae: Duke Vuiller Duchy Reutov: Duke Vuiller County Salia: Countess d’Arkent County San Adriano: Countess d’Arkent Viscounty Enderoca: Duke Vuiller Viscounty Tuvia: Absent Barony Cascanova: Absent Thus, in a 3-2 vote, with two absent, Duke Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller was chosen as Gran Don. Section III: The Vote on the Heir of Balian: The Proposal: His Excellency, Count August Temesch, the Amiratus, stood before the Segnoria to propose a vote upon the new Monarch of Balian, with the Prince John Casimir’s penance now granted in his wedding under the Mother Church to the now Princess Kathyrn Virosi. With the penance past and the Senate forming in the coming months to vote as well, it was deemed by the unanimous vote of the Peers of Balian to be an acceptable time to hold their vote for the Monarch of Balian as the Regency under the able hand of Archbishop Ivan Cardinal Lotharia comes to it’s natural close. The main candidate proposed was Prince John Casimir Baudoin of House Novellen, though the vote was left open to other claimants, should peers choose to support another. The Vote: Duchy Aquillae: Prince John Casimir Duchy Reutov: Prince John Casimir County Salia: Prince John Casimir County San Adriano: Prince John Casimir Viscounty Enderoca: Prince John Casimir Viscounty Tuvia: Absent Barony Cascanova: Absent Thus, among the present Peers of the Kingdom of Balian, there was a unanimous vote of support behind John Casimir Baudoin Novellen to become the next King of Balian. This vote shall now go to the Senate upon its establishment to be assented to or dissented to. If assented to by the Senate, then with the assent of the Cardinal Regent, Prince John would be crowned as King John II of Balian, with the backing of his Peers and People. Section IV: Prince’s Petitions and Final Petitions: The Gran Don’s Proposals: The new Gran Don, Duke Vuiller, proposed the major general points of his platform to the Segnoria, for their information and consideration. These included annual or semi-annual meetings of the Segnoria going forward, so they may properly communicate and review proposals from the Senate, and offer their assent or dissent as allowed by the new bicameral system. He also proposed that the Houses work more closely with the Courts to organize more events for the nation, that the previously allocated committee under Princess Kathryn and Countess d’Arkent be started, that if any Peers hold certain interests within the governance, event organization, or the like within Balian, that they may start their own committees to communicate and work amongst each other to do so, and that there be more communication between the Peers and the Duana and Courts to find wardships and squireships for their children, to better prepare the next generation. He then opened the floor to questions, petitions, or proposals from the Peers, or words from the Prince John Casimir to his Peers. The Prince’s Petition: The Peers had no petitions, so the Prince offered his, affirming his dedication to working closely with his Peers, and the necessity of outside advice and opinions to run a Kingdom, and thus asked if they had any petitions, advice, or reservations to bring forward. The Peers did not at this time, and thus the option was left open by the Prince for Peers to approach him at their will, and by the Gran Don for the Prince to sit in upon future Segnoria meetings, and have a chance to speak to the Peers and take advice and address concerns within any meeting he attends. With no more petitons or words from the peers, the measure to adjourn was called. Section V: Measure to Adjourn The Vote: Duchy Aquillae: In Favour Duchy Reutov: In Favour County Salia: In Favour County San Adriano: In Favour Viscounty Enderoca: In Favour Viscounty Tuvia: Absent Barony Cascanova: Absent And Thus Ended the Segnoria Meeting of 135 B.A. Signed, His Royal Excellency, August Benedict Temesch, Count of San Adriano, Count of Martiel, Amiratus of Balian, Seneschal of the Crown, Militant of the Order of Saint Lothar. HIS EXCELLENCY, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, Duke of Aquilae, Cavalier of the Order of St. Michael, Royal Sentinel of Balian, Gran Don of the Segnoria of Balian, Royal Legate of the Kingdom of Balian

Office of the Legate The Ministry of Foreign Affairs The Office The Office of the Legate, also known as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is the diplomatic corps of the Kingdom of Balian. It is the duty of this office to maintain stable relations with foreign powers, negotiate treaties with foreign powers and entities, and to represent the Kingdom of Balian on the world stage. The Legate’s Office works closely with the Amiratus and Monarch of Balian to assure that their intentions and will for Balian are carried out abroad, and so that they are well informed of our current situation on the world stage, along with the situations of other foreign nations, so that they may make informed decisions when guiding the Kingdom. Officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs The Legate As head of the Legate’s Office, the sitting Legate is the highest diplomatic authority in the Kingdom of Balian outside of the Reigning Monarch and the Amiratus. It is the duty of the Legate to sit on the Duana, to aid the Monarch and Amiratus in the drafting, negotiation, and maintenance of foreign treaties and relations for the Kingdom of Balian, to advise the Monarch and Amiratus on news from across the world (good or ill), to assure the diplomatic corps is running smoothly and in accordance with the goals and interests of the Balianese Crown, and to serve as the primary diplomat within the Kingdom. The current Legate, as of 128 B.A., is Sir Marcel Vuiller. The Diplomats The foreign relations of an entire nation is a task too large for any one person to properly manage alone, thus the Ministry of Foreign Affairs chooses diplomats from amongst the people of Balian to aid the Legate in their tasks. Diplomats are generally given a nation of primary responsibility, to which they serve as the primary emissary and ambassador for all routine matters involving that State. They are expected to maintain regular communications with that nation (preferably yearly or bi-yearly) with that state to maintain relations and bring tidings from that land, with those communications likely growing more frequent during times of war, strife, or instability within their assigned nation. Diplomats may also aid the Legate on missions to other nations, and may, with the aid and approval of the Legate, Amiratus, and Crown, help represent the nation in the absence of the Legate or another higher authority. Joining the Legate’s Office If one seeks to join the Legate’s Office, they should reach out to Sir Marcel Vuiller in Portoregne or in his holdings in the Duchy of Aquilae. Diplomats will be interviewed by the Legate and, if approved, will either be assigned a primary Nation at their appointment, or will be given general tasks to assist the Legate and Crown around the world before being given a specific station. Wards are also accepted by the Legate’s Office, and shall be given tasks to shadow the Legate and/or other Diplomats of the Office to gain experience in Foreign Affairs, before being promoted to a full diplomat upon coming of age or being deemed suitably proficient. Signed, HIS EXCELLENCY, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, Duke of Aquilae, Cavalier of the Order of St. Michael, Royal Sentinel of Balian, Royal Legate of the Kingdom of Balian

The old, retired Viscount looks over the missive appraisingly, brow slightly furrowed as he'd read it over "I hope he may enjoy his retirement at least. He served well, for most of his reign, though his final acts brought dishonor...hopefully Samuel may salvage the work and reputation I and my father built, rather than continue to backhanded politicking broaching treason to true treason."
-
Marcel Vuiller would read the missive with a frown, before putting it aside on the table, muttering "You speak of carts before horses, when you seek to break and throw aside your oaths as Peers, Duana, Officers, and Kingsguard because you are to impatient to let the son of the man who gave you your titles, both of whom you swore to guard and serve, seek penance. We swore to uphold the Line of Balian, and John is heir, unless the Regency definitively disqualifies him. Skipping in the line until then is the treason and politicking of vultures, which the Cardinal banned." he'd then toss the missive in the fire, and move towards the shrine of St. Harald to pray guidance and protection from his ancestor in these difficult times. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The elder Ser Robyn de Lyons would read the missive, letting out a dry, humorless chuckle "Seems they have not read the history of the nation to which they moved. I say of them what I say of the fools in the Sarkozics and Kervallens who deigned to break their oaths for political convenience - a man who forsakes his honour and vows for his own ambition is little better than a beast. Seems many have failed to learn that lesson. Even some closer to home..." The old lawman would frown at that, gazing out over the walls of Enderoca towards the sea, bracing his weakening frame on the crenelations of his keep as he'd think of days and oaths past, and of newer matters that have troubled his mind, even close to home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The young Balianese Prince would read the missive before folding it up and tossing it off so the wind would carry it into the sea outside his window as he'd pout slightly, mumbling "I suppose those sparring lessons won't be coming from them at least..." He'd let out a small sigh, before going back to one of his books.

The Vuiller Regency 14th of Horen’s Calling, 121 BA I, Marcel Vuiller, have found the desire to go on a Pilgrimage to center myself in the years to come, and to take time to dedicate to prayer, learning, and contemplation. Thus, from sometime next month, for the next eleven or twelve, I shall be afield. As my twin sons, Harald and Duncan, are too young to lead in their own right, thus I task my cousin Rev Vuiller to take over my duties as the Regent of Aquilae during my absence, to attend meetings, vote in the Segnoria, and manage the lands in my stead until I return, while hopefully still involving the younger generation as they learn about such matters. Signed, His Grace, Sir Marcel Elio Harald Vuiller, Duke of Aquilae, Cavalier of the Order of St. Lothar, Royal Sentinel of the Kingdom of Balian

From River to Desert to Shore The Modern History of House de Lyons By Viscount Robert Joseph de Lyons Promise on the Petra - On the Days of my Father: The House de Lyons, once a house of some renown in the old days of Aeldin, had fallen on hard times in recent years. They had, for reasons unknown and largely lost to time, lost their station as lords within the Empire of Aeldin, had moved on to other lands, and for a few generations had not borne any knights or any men or women of renown. But they remembered their past, and passed on their legacy to new generations, and eventually one came who had the drive, the prowess, and the fortune necessary to reclaim that legacy - Arthur Hughes de Lyons, my father. He came as a boy to Petra, holding with him the tales of the past, and the resolve to see himself reclaim what we had lost - our honor, our renown. He had the resolve to become a knight, and he proved himself worthy of the challenge. He first joined the Sons of Petra, our old military, and fought valiantly, with special focus on hunting the many dark and strange beasts that lurked in the wooded borderlands, between Petra and Acre and the ruins of old Dobrov. His valiant efforts against these beasts, along with his general chivalrous and honorable nature, earned him a knighthood. He was not a squire, he was not connected beforehand. He, through his hard work, grit, courage, determination, honor, and chivalry earned back his House’s birthright and honor, and brought himself into the annals of our histories along with Lyonnel of old. In this time, he had met my mother, Juliana Vernhart, who was a silent woman, moral and holy, at the time planning on becoming a Sister of the Church following the death of her parents, whom she had been caring for, in Vuillermoz. She came down the road to Petra and met Arthur, and he convinced her to join the Sons of Petra, which she did. In that time, she proved her bravery, and that while she was oft quiet and meek, she had a great resolve and a hidden fury within her which came out when her honor was slighted or her family or friends were in danger. And, in this time she and Arthur fell in love, and were wed. They had four children - myself and Elaine, who were born in Petra before the war, and Gareth and Corwin, twins born in Balian after our flight. Bearing the unfortunate fate that they would never meet their father, nor hear their mother’s voice. The two raised their family, and he continued his service in Petra. He became Mayor of Valfleur, and later was raised to Knight Paramount of the Petrine Laurel after Sir Brandt. He fought duels and made challenges to defend his honor and that of his wife and family. He stood up for people who were dishonored or mistreated like his sister-in-law was by Harald Vernhart. He had worked well to reclaim our family’s honor and status, and to instill his values of courage, justice, and honor in me, as my mother worked to instill her values of intellect. But sadly fate is sometimes not kind, and lives are cut short, even those least deserving of it. For even the most skilled and valiant die in battle, if the odds aren’t in their favor. For my father was a man who was uncompromising in his ideas and willing to defend his people, his family, and his friends to the last. When he heard of Renilde’s unfaithfulness to Archduke Constanz, he rallied us all to stand by Constanz, and when Renilde was called to Trial, he, as Knight Paramount of the Petrine Laurel, came to attend, and assure it went smoothly. But there was no trial, only blood and fire and death. Brigands and Azdrazi, hired by Renilde's people, came in her stead, and killed most within Castle Moore. And Sir Arthur died doing his duty, defending his Archduke Constanz and his people, burnt by Nephilim flames. I do not know where his body lies, only that he died with honor, all those years ago, and he kept us safe. Solace in the Sands - On my Days in Atrus: After the loss of the skirmish, and after or around the deaths of Sir Brandt, Dame Livia, and Archduke Constanz, we fled with the others down to Balian. My mother and I quickly found refuge for us and my siblings with her Uncle Ledicort and the Vuiller in Aquilae. In this time, I dealt with my grief, but I also grew many of my closest friendships. Albert, August, Casimir, and I had known each other since well before the war, and were friends, but it was the war, our flight to the south, and our mutual grief that bonded us and forged us as friends. And, I also met new friends during this time. Prince Hadrian, Princesses Elena and Lydia, my cousin Helane Vuiller, Olivier de Savoie, and several others came to be friends, at least for a time, and the good times and adventures we spent together helped bring me solace, and find new purpose. My father was gone, my mother was silent in eternal mourning. But we would push on. When some moved north to Corbenic, I decided to stay, and ward under the Vuiller, with the permission of my mother and my Aunt Johanne, the Countess of Aquilae. I chose this for many reasons - so I could learn more and grow, so I could have the chance to perhaps become a squire and claim the knighthood as my father did before me - but also because I did not wish to leave the friends I made, and while it was nice to return to the North, to reminisce on times lost, at the time the desert had brought me solace and peace. The babbling of the waves and rivers, the rustling of the trees, the falling rain - all brought back memories of what I had lost, of what could not be regained. I have never been one for half measures, and wished to start anew, and do my best to reclaim the legacy of my father and honor the past, without dwelling on its woes. So I stayed in the south and learned, and was granted two main tasks over the years as a ward. The first was to look into a legal case that had transpired during the first Symposia, a time that drew many of us far closer even though we couldn’t participate, and where Elena and I first started to discover our feelings for each other. In the case, the Darkwoods were demoted due to them hiring foreign guards without approval for their event, and since those guards were rough with the royal family. It was this task and my conversations with Uncle Ledicort and Aunt Johanne about it that first stirred my interest in law, and first stirred my Uncle’s thoughts of having me as Magister. The second task was to study St. Harald Vuiller, and his life burying the dead and hunting darkspawn and cults. It was also around this time that Elena and I went to aid the Druids of the Vale, who had been attacked by the Mori’Quessir during one of their earliest incursions, where a Bokolo named Peanut was stolen by the Mori and taken into their tunnels. We went with the druids armed and armored, paired together as we fought through spiders and a Dreadknight with the Druidic party until we came upon Peanut, and they healed her and we brought her out of the caves. After this, I went away a while, reading and writing and studying what I could. Two years later I returned, shortly before I turned 16, and it was then that my Uncle Ledicort suggested I become the Magister - the Master of Laws. I considered it and interviewed, and I earned the position. As my father did with his positions in Petra, I gave it my all, revising the codex, adding addendums, and running trials, including one of a Traitor, which was my first. I kept close with my friends, and with my sister Elaine, and built up my reputation. A second Symposia came, though it was cut short by the tragic death of the King. Elena and I stayed close, though it was not until a bit after this and the mourning period that we finally spoke about the topic and professed our feelings and began to court. But by those days the shadow of the Mori was ever growing. I had already fought at the Battle of Amathea, and cities were falling left and right. We hoped for the best, but we all knew it was only a matter of time before Atrus fell as well. And eventually it did, to a giant worm and waves upon waves of blowing sand. Meanwhile, trouble was happening in the family as well. My sister Elaine had started to court a man, Gereon de Savoie, brother of Olivier and Guy, though he was far worse than either. He tortured my sister, and used her love against her, and defiled her honor. Through swift action, he was cast out to be done with as we will. The Barrowlands took the fingers of one of his hand, and I hoped that as soon as we have a courthouse to try him in, we get our own justice as well, though it seems he died or disappeared on his own accord. From Darkness to New Light - On the Journey to Aevos Eventually, the Mori came to even the camp at old San Luciano, and drove us underground like they once were. We wandered the dark tunnels, and wondered if we were even truly still alive. There were hints of hope, such as my sister's wedding, but things were grim. Eventually we found our way out of the tunnels, onto the isles of Failor. It was a chaotic and unorganized time, but we built a small hamlet, and we had some peace and quiet, which I used to farm, to study, to write, and to make the sash which I would propose with, as revealed in the Lothar Stone Elena translated. I was also able to spend time with my nephew Arthur, and my niece Elsie was born to Albert and Elaine. But then we heard word of a new land, beyond Failor, and we sailed then to Aevos. Elena and I worked to help map and plan the Crownlands, deciding where to place farms, orchards, vineyards, quarries, mines, and where to keep wild. Eventually the city of Portoregne was raised to be our new home, and chartered. All was well, and shortly thereafter I finally proposed, and Elena accepted. And then finally, in this past year, we were finally wed, and on that eve King Adrian decided to enoff me as the Baron of Enderoca, a name referencing the land of Endean that Lyonnel had tamed in the olden days of Aeldin, when he had founded our house. And thus I find great pride that I continued my father's and mother's work and legacy, and after catastrophes we were able to rebuild, and reclaim through hard work the status long lost, but not forgotten. Years more passed into my life and service. I had children of my own, and continued my work for the family and Kingdom. I lost my wife, my brothers-in-law, and many close friends and family, and my mother in these latter days. But I tried to help where I could, do what good I could, even if it sometimes went to naught. Some things slipped, and work and distance grew between some of us due to business pulling us away and differences of opinion, which I will forever regret not reconciling. I will never know if my father would be proud of how I've lived, but I hope and pray that I have well honored his legacy, and that me and my progeny shall never again fall into complacency or the traps of corruption, and shall continue to work hard to earn our status for generations to come. I hope that all those on whom the circlet rests shall be worthy, and shall always remember the great sacrifices, grit, and effort on which our name was built in ancient times, and rebuilt in the modern day.

The once young boy, now an old man, sat by his mother's side as she faded from this world to the skies, as a few tears would roll down his cheeks, muttering to himself "You are finally with Papa now, Mother...where you always wanted to be...perhaps I shall hear your voice again one day, when I join you both...refresh the almost faded memories..." as a few more tears would slip down his usually hard, stoic face, as he'd look upon his faded mother, clasping the ribbon in his hand, turning it between his fingers "And make up for lost time...farewell, Mother..."
-
The old de Lyons would reflect as he'd hear the news, frowning as his brow would furrow "Even more pass on...he was a good man, for the most part...did what I could for him, or so I hope. He shall rest now with his family in the skies, as he should."

Robyn would hear news of his old friend's death, frowning as his mind would swim back through the many decades of good memories, from children in Petra going on adventures or sparring, to their young days in Balian fighting darkspawn and Mori and speaking of life, to their wars against the Mori, the coming to Almaris and the politics and friendships continued on to their latter days. He'd mutter under his breath "Cas, Albert, Elena...all gone...August and I are all that is left..." He'd think fondly of his old friends as he'd take a sip of wine from Enderoca, looking out over the waters towards the city on the horizon, and then over the beach to Valio "Times are changing...years have gone on...I shall see them and all the rest soon enough..."

Le Transfert de la Fierté ‘The Transfer of the Pride’ The Enderoca Succession | 12th of Peter’s Glory, 112 BA It has been the greatest honor of my life to take on the charge of my father - despite the horrid circumstances that shall ever grieve me - and to see his dreams of the name De Lyons bearing weight once more fulfilled. To serve this Kingdom, as Magister, Peer, Gran Don, Knight, and Scribe, for many long years, has been fulfilling and a pleasure. To see the land grow in strength, justice, vibrancy, and respect. To see the defeat of those who threatened the peace and freedom of humanity, and the relative peace in our time - at least among Canondom - that has been wrought. However, age brings its dullness and lethargy and stagnancy, and the wise know when is best to pass things on, for their own health and for the best of their House. Thus, I, Ser Robert Joseph de Lyons, Viscount of Enderoca, in sound health and mind, hereby pass the title of Viscount of Enderoca and the Cercle dels Lleons and Fierté du Lion - the marks of that office - on to my eldest son and heir, Lord Tristan Aurelius de Lyons, with the succession then secure in his children. It has been my great honor to serve as peer, and I bear the greatest of confidence that the legacy and vitality of this house shall be well served in the generations to come. Signed, His Royal Majesty, Alexandros II, by the Grace of GOD, King of Balian, Prince of Providence, Duke of Helena, Reutov, Sunholdt and Lorraine, Count of Pompourelia and Kositz, Viscountess of Eflen and Anatis, Baron of Renzfeld, Brucca, Valens, Malenos, Montcoure and Ciavola, Lord of Portoregne, Atrus and Monterosa, Warden of La Costa Rubinissima, Keeper of of St Lothars Hold, Protector of the Heartlanders and the South, etcetera The Most Honorable, Ser Robert Joseph de Lyons, Viscount of Enderoca, Erudit of the Order of the Silver Comet, Kritai of the Kingdom of Balian His Lordship, Don Tristan Aurelius de Lyons, Heir of Enderoca, Cavalier of the Order of the St. Michael, Palatiodoro of the Kingdom of Balian

"Finally, retribution for Father, and for Albert, and for all the rest." the well greyed Viscount would remark as he'd sign the missive, gathering together his arms for the impending conflict "Que les justes feux de Dieu consument les Dragons." "Work for our order at last, da?" the young Vuiller would remark, looking to Prince Xander and the others about the Hold.
