The Sanada Clan
Overview:
The Sanada Clan is a Clan of easterners that lay in a small plot of land in Norland. The Clan is made of all different people and races, although no matter the race or people they all identify as easterners. Lead by the Daimyo Sanada Yoshinari, with Yoshinari’s goal being to revive the Sanadas to the once great Clan they used to be in the times before his birth and to unite the other easterner clans into a great nation. The Sanada Clan is a great force that fights honorably in battle and is humble in victory.

Roleplay:
The Sanada Clan members are generally Protective of their allies, are always ready to fight and are always respectful to strangers and even some enemies.
The Sanada Clan is very War driven, almost always relying on the bounties of war to live. Although being a War driven clan the Sanadas are well known for mourning their lost after battle, no matter victory or loss. They are also known to take bounties and to even preform assassinations for a few hundred mina no matter how big or small the job is. The average Sanada is almost never going to turn down a job unless specifically told not to.
You can tell the Sanada Clan apart from the other Easterner clans due to their black armor with platinum trimming.
A Sanadas believe that showing your face in a battle is a bad omen due to the spirit of death seeing you and wanting to take you with it, so they only show their eyes allowing the enemy to be allowed to see into his killers soul.
Military Structure:
The Sanada’s forces are comprised of multiple different warrior types.
These Types being listed here:
The Rōnin :
The Rōnin are the recruits to the Sanada Clan. Mainly referred to as the wanderers Rōnin are without masters and in search of training to be refined into warriors.
The Ashigarū:
Ashigarū are the mass footmen of the Sanada military, making up a large majority of the clan’s numbers. They are generally equipped with Naginata or Yari lance (depending on the enemy armor) as a formation weapon, but also carry either Ono or Sai as a sidearm. Armor would be made of plate, resembling 5th century Kofun period armor. Variation for more mobility based troops can also consist of boil hardened leather.
The Samurai:
The trained warriors of the military, the Samurai either serve as skilled foot soldiers or as cavalry. On the ground, they would be equipped with either a Naginata or Yari, and a Katana for a sidearm. On horseback, they would have the same loadout but with a possibility of also having a bow for ranged cavalry attacks. Their armor is usually a lacquer product, scaled plate, or a single plate Cuirass (Hon Kozane Dou Gusoku, Okegawa Ni-Mai Dou Gusoku, or Yukinoshita Gusoku).
The Kyūdō:
The Kyūdōs are masters of the art of Kyūjutsu (The Art of Archery). They are commonly seen in the back lines of the fights wounding their enemies from afar and using the distance to their advantage.
The Kihei
The Kihei are the Cavalry of the Sanada Clan. They come in many shapes and forms depending on their former role in the Sanada Clan. Most commonly seen with a Naginata (Sword Staff) in battle and Wearing light armor to accompany their horses.
Officer ranks:
Daimyo (Clan Leader):
The Daimyo is the equivalent to a lord, whom owns the land that his troops are employed under. As such, he is the main commander of his troops. The Daimyo is usually seen at the rear of the formation or stationed elsewhere with a view over the entire battlefield. He is the one who gives orders to his men.
Daimyo's Champion:
The Daimyo's Champion is a rank given to 1 person who has fought valiantly and shown that he is deserving of such a high title.
The Taishō:
The Taishō are the Daimyo’s generals, acting as strategists side by side with the Daimyo. They are not required to fight, but many Kensei often serve as Taishō as well.
The Kensei:
The Kensei are the 4th highest in the chain of command. The Kensei are the sword masters who have served as Samurai for at least a decade. Therefore, they’re typically older but much more experienced on a battlefield. The Daimyo decides what position they serve in formation, but they are permitted to roam if they see a significant opportunity. These masters are equipped with the usual lance weapons with a Katana sidearm, and sometimes an Odachi. However, the Odachi is rare on the battlefield due to three reasons: expense, difficulty to make, and difficulty to use. Due to the length, a thicker blade is required which makes it feel very unwieldy and slow. Due to not having a pommel, the balance is also off and the odachi is very difficult in terms of edge alignment for a proper cut either diagonally or horizontally. This means that most attacks are limited to downward slashes, making it a weapon that is not too practical in many cases. (It should be clear that the issue is inherently in the weapon and it’s unlikely that anyone would seriously become “extremely skilled” at it after using it for a long time. No matter what, it will be badly designed and difficult to use no matter how much practice someone has had with it.)
