Definitions
What is roleplaying? Roleplaying is when you play the role of a character, and can be accomplished through a number of different kinds of media. Your character is separate from your own self, interactions between characters having no bearing on “real-life” relationships.
What is metagaming?: Metagaming is a punishable offense in which a character gains knowledge that they really have no reason or way of knowing (for example, if a roleplayer is made aware of something through chat and then transfers this knowledge to their character). This is not only a bit annoying, but also unfair to the other roleplayers whose characters have not conveniently become omniscient.
What is power-emoting (powergaming)?: Power-emoting is when a character performs an action they realistically should not be able to do. This comes in many forms; most prominently, when a roleplayer takes indirect control of another person’s character and decides what happens to them or how they react to something.
In-Character Information
Character’s name: Jehan (JEY-hun)
Character’s sex: Male
Character’s race: Human (Highlander)
Character’s age: 22
Biography:
Jehan was born in 1584 to two human parents in a small and remote farmhouse mid-Tahn—an unusual situation, given that humans tend towards community dwelling, but he never questioned his family’s solitude, as it was all he’d known. He grew up hunting with the bow and learning how to survive in the wilds; his two older sisters did, too, but they had both left the house to get married in a city by the time Jehan was fourteen.
One day, a small group of armed men arrived at the farmhouse on horseback. This was bizarre enough, but it became even more disconcerting when they began to demand payment from Jehan’s parents as compensation for some sort of “bad deal” concerning the contents of a Dwarven mine. When his parents refused, the men drew their swords, prepared for slaughter…. and Jehan fled for his life. He hadn’t really meant to leave behind his parents, but that’s where his legs took him. He was out the window and speeding south through the wilderness before he could even think twice about it.
Being thoroughly lost, and knowing his family was also most likely lost, Jehan had nowhere to go. To this day he makes a habit of wandering, hunting, and even sleeping in the outdoors. Not really having a people or a place to call his own, he spends a fair amount of time in the Dominion of Malin, but is known to travel quite a lot. He reveres Cernunnos, having “discovered” the Aengel through his incidental interaction with elves, but does not actively engage in worship (though his wandering nature and talent for marksmanship may be seen as a form of worship in itself).
Personality Traits: Not having been particularly well-socialized in his youth (or ever), Jehan’s a bit on the awkward side. He’s happy to talk and is usually smiling, but can be a bit uncouth or just downright odd, often responding to events in an unfittingly nonchalant manner. He also has a tendency to wander into trouble.
He’s a big fan of hunting, mead, eating food, and being outside; he doesn’t particularly like stiff clothing, being trapped indoors, or horses (they make him nervous).
Ambitions: In all honesty, he’s a little aimless. He’s mostly here to survive and have a good time.
Strengths/Talents: Archery, animal processing, foraging, animal call mimicry
Weaknesses/Inabilities: He has little-to-no people skills, political knowledge, brute strength, magical ability/awareness, or foresight.
Appearance: Tall, lanky. Sun-tanned skin with dark curly hair and dark eyes. Wears a rather worn-looking off-white tunic (was probably bright white once) beneath a green vest, with a deep red sash in-between, probably “borrowed” from someone. Scuffed-up trousers. Hardy fur-lined boots. Generally has his quiver on his back.
Skin:
