  1. Antigonid Dynasty 1523 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- As Aegos paces before the various holy men and priests of the kingdom. They sit there silently, listening, observing. The High Priest Aleuas opens his mouth to speak, but he is cut off by the King’s words. Aegos stops before them, looking to the ceiling then to the men in front of him, breathing deeply” “The Great Titan hears my prayers. Deep into the night at the holy site, I feel his presence, I feel his power thrumming through the world. Why then, does he simply acknowledge me? Why does the Ancient One not speak? Why does he not offer his guidance?” Now, Aleuas offers his council. He shifts in his chair, adjusting his robes before he begins to speak. “Your Grace, To feel Voleus’ power is a sign in and of itself. You must not forget the rebellion of the gods. The fruits of their corrupt labour has caused The Ancient One to be blocked from this mortal plane almost entirely. Perhaps he has not yet the capability to speak to his faithful, but yet you felt his presence. This is good. The Great Titan approves your actions, he blesses your crusade. Every idol the legions topple, every unbeliever who is slain is another drop of strength sapped from treacherous Gods, another crack in the veil of darkness..” “Of course, how could one be so blind. Truly, Aleuas, your council has never failed me.. The Sacred Few must be gathered, the Great Titan’s crusade is nearly upon us..” ---------------------=0=--------------------- “Before there was everything, there was nothing.. A great sea of black and darkness consumed the universe. Then, a great spark, a sea of silver light, a pulse echoed across the cosmos. The Great Titan, seeking more, cast the darkness aside. In its place a virgin universe. However, his creation was wild and untenable. To remedy, The Ancient One formed 5 primordial Gods from his essence to govern all that was his. The Gods of Life and Death to hold balance between mortal creatures, the God of Elements to shape and manage his worlds, the God of the Seas to guide and manage the seas and storms, and finally the God of Sun, for which he used to channel his light onto the earth. Knowing his work was done, and well managed, the Ancient One rested, entered a deep slumber. However, despite his infinite wisdom and divinity, the Gods grew jealous and spiteful of the Ancient One’s power. They rebelled against him, creating servants of their own to aid their struggle. With their power, and Voleus’s Slumber, they cast the Great Titan from the realms of men. They created the Great Veil of Darkness to block his light and severe their connections him. All while he slumbered. Without his guiding hand, the Gods run rampant acting on their own desires, desecrating his followers, and warring among themselves. Now only vestiges of the silver sea breach our realm. This can no longer stand.. the rebellion of the Gods must end, order must be restored to the mortal plane. That is why you have been summoned here. My servants have failed me, I trust that you sacred few will not. Great legions will desecrate and tear down the god’s idols. Where we march, Voleus’ blessing follows.. The Ancient One will be awoken, a war in heaven is soon upon us. I ask you Sacred Few, will you follow me? Aegos VII, Redeemer of the East, Hegemon of the Latesian Freehold, Triumpher of Mongerellia, and upholder of house Antigos!? Will you carry the Great Titan’s battle standards into the heart of Naros, and beyond? Will you desecrate the god’s idols, and end their pathetic rebellion? Will you awaken the Ancient One, and restore order to this world! Will you join me in my great crusade!” As the King finishes his rousing speech the hall erupts into a hurricane of religious fervor. Lords and Knights thrusting their blades towards the ceiling let out zealous cheers and oaths. Among them, the most notable of the Sacred Few, the most pious and wealthy Antigonid nobles. Lord Ouranus of Asterion, Lord Odias of Solace, & Lord Orion of Valandovos. Faithful and devoted vassals of House Antigos, they are selected by King Aegos to personally lead his armies in the coming wars to end the god’s rebellion. Then, through the large palace window, a flash of pale light illuminates the room. The mood of zeal of excitement ceases on the spot. In the hall, silence ensues. Only the burning of embers and the breaths of their comrades could be heard. The King rises from his chair at the head of the hall. “The Great Titan has spoken! His blessing is upon us! Raise the Legions, call the banners, in due time, we set out!” Once more, the hall erupts. However, in the meantime, The King and his retinue would sail north and discover the source of this pillar of light... ---------------------=0=--------------------- Actions & Spending Gross Income + Treasury: 114,600 Net Income: 108,600 Financial Actions: -Routine Farm Expansion (10,000) -Five more manufactories sprout up in Asterion (37,500) -Smiths are instructed on how to properly forge heavy equipment (15,000) -3,000 Silver Legionnaires are raised. 3. Antigonid Dynasty 1522 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- Lord Byron paces towards the large and all too familiar silver doors. Behind him, several of the Centurions from his remaining forces follow. Outside the doors, two Celestial Knights stand at the ready, their elaborate silver armor glimmering in the palace light. As Byron’s party reaches the doors, the knights push them open, revealing the dimly lit throne room. The Lord entered slowly, removing his helmet as he passed the door. From high on his throne, Aegos looked down on the defeated man. Byron eventually reached the foot of the throne, falling to his knee, “Your Gra-“ “I don’t want to hear excuses, nor apologies. Where is my Legion, Byron? Where is my standard?” The King interrupted. Aegos rises to his feet, stepping down the stairs and before the Lord. “You lost my standards, nearly half my Legion is dead or devoured in the desert, and the Great City does not fly my flags… Tell me, who advocated for this crusade to the west? Was it not you you championed this cause? Who is to blame for this catastrophe?” “Your Grace, I believed the city could be seized, my men were exhausted and the desert did not provide suitable terrain. I did what I could, there were simply too many. My men, we were overrun..” “You would be wise to save your breath. Count yourself lucky that I did not have your head removed after learning of this debacle and what it cost me. Return to your holdings, and do not fail me again, or repercussions will far outweigh what I have laid upon you. Now leave, your presence dilutes to sanctity of my halls..” At once the lord rose from his position and bowed to the King as he slowly climbed his throne once more. Byron pivots on his feet, walking at a brisk pace towards the exit. His political career was now effectively finished. Whatever influence he might’ve held over the king had evaporated, at least he still had a nice hall to die in.. ---------------------=0=--------------------- On The World’s Edge great braziers line the fine sand beaches, though they are filled with water great bouts of fire still leap from their rims. In the midnight sky the full moon and stars hang, letting only pinpricks of Voleus’s lights pierce the earth, and enchanting the ocean waves with their light. A circular structure encased in a ring of pillars, made of rock and stones rise from the beach, the waves brushing along its base. In the center a great brazier burns, casting daunting shadows across the landscape. Far down the coast, the lights from the Royal capital can faintly be seen as they beam through the midnight sky. At the top of the beach a party of figures stands, gazing down on the scene. King Aegos, clad in ceremonial silver armor that reflects the full moonlight leads the group. At his side, holy men and members of the Etheairoi. Silence consumes the group as they all mutter silent prayers and gaze in awe at the sight, until finally the high priest speaks quietly. “Your Grace, the Ancient One slumbers, he has not made his presence known in millennia, he speaks faintly and infrequently.” Aegos remains silent for several moments, pondering the High Priest Aleuas’s words before he speaks with a hint of determination not yet heard in the young King’s voice. “Aleuas, you speak as if I have not read the ancient texts, I am well acquainted with Voleus’s behaviors. This will have to be an.. exception. I have returned his most faithful followers to Naros. I have conquered and brought millions into his fold. Every night, I will conduct this ritual, no matter the conditions. I will make my devotion to Voleus known. The Ancient One will make himself visible to me, he will show me his light. I will awaken him..” Aegos turns to face his retinue, “Let it be heard that I call the banners, legions will be raised, the very ground will shake. I will lead a great crusade in Voleus’s name. I will tear down the unbeliever’s idols, and desecrate their temples. If the Ancient One does not acknowledge my presence now, he will in the years to come…” With that, the king steps forward, marching down across the beach towards the coastal temple. Aegos walks slowly, following the trail of braziers, uttering prayers along the whole path. He slowly ascends the stone stairs, finally reaching the blazing hearth where he falls to his knees, grasping the edges of the large brazier. He bows his head till the flames dance on the edge of his person, licking his features. For hours and deep into the cool Latesian night the young King kneels before the holy site, simply praying.. 5. Antigonid Dynasty 1521 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- Only the light of the moon and stars filtered into the palace room, illuminating it with silver light. King Aegos sat higher than the room on his throne, just above his head a star inlaid with gold and silver engraved on the stone. His hand rested upon the pommel of a blade, the other on his thigh. Before him, two men clad in silver armor, bearing the same star upon their breastplates held a robbed man between them. The man resisted his bonds continuously before one of the knights kicked the back of his legs, sending him on his knees. “Your Grace, they’ve all been rooted out of the province, this one claims to be the high priest. What would you have done to him?” The knight drew his own blade, pressing it into the man's back. Aegos rose from his throne, slowly walking down the stairs until he was standing before the high-priest. He stood there silently, looking over his clearly beaten figure. He took the man by his throat, tilting his head upwards till his gaze met his own. “You’re full of tricks, wizard.. I give your people the right to worship their own gods and you repay me by destroying my cities and ravaging my coastlines? There was mercy once for deep one worshippers, but now my mercy has run dry. I will make sure your plague is exterminated.” Aegos let go of the man, letting him fall to the floor before turning to return to his throne. “Have them all tortured, then executed, let it be known throughout Voreia Mongerellia that worship of the so called ‘Deep One’ is forever outlawed, any man found to practice the same religion as these men will share their fates..” “As you wish, Your Grace” the leader of the two men responds, followed by a quick bow before once more seizing the man, and dragging him to his feet and out the door... ---------------------=0=--------------------- To the Eadni, The army which accompanies me, and stands before the gates of Sunport marches not to rob you and your people of their ambitions, but merely to fulfill our own promises. King Aegos pledged his banners to the great crusade of ridding our lands and our world from the hordes of bloated throats that pose a threat to all.. Once the city has been purged of this menace, you will find me and my troops continuing our march north, unless circumstances arise which would alter our course of action. On this promise, you have my word.. Your Friend & Ally, Lord Alexios Byron ---------------------=0=--------------------- The shifting sands continued to swell and sink around the 2nd Legions’ camp. The men had been forced to continuously arrange the walls and fortifications until they had eventually given up. The walls and ditches that usually accompanied a semi-temporary Antigonid camp were gone, tents and desert were the only scenery the army could enjoy. The painfully quiet atmosphere was shattered as a rider entered the camp, the man quickly dismounted making his way along the well organized rows of tents towards the command tent in the center of the camp. He pushed open the flaps to find the Commander, Lord Byron inside. “My Lord, word from Pelos. More specifically, King Aegos.” The weary man says as he withdraws a message, handing it to the Lord. As Byron broke open the letter, reading it in its entirety, a look of concern quickly spreads across his face. He signaled to his aide, who quickly read the letter as well, an equal look of concern spreading across his own face. “Alert the camp at once, we rise before first light, and break camp first thing after breakfast..” With that, plans were put into motion... 7. Antigonid Dynasty 1520 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- The sun beat down on the weary camp. Lord Byrron peered out from the gate, shielding his face from the sun. He scanned the horizon as several dots in the distance, no doubt his scouts, drew closer. Not far away the, glorious albeit ruined, city stood. A monument to the skill and development of the ancients. Now, it was far reduced from its former glory. The hordes of bloated throats now overrun the ancient site, their numbers unknown. The Lord turned on his feet, heading back into the camp. The officer on his left followed closely behind. “My Lord, with all due respect. The Army has been sitting here for days now, the sun is unbearable. We need to move on. The city is overrun, we can do little to clear out the infestation of those.. Abominations.” “We must take it, or turn south in defeat. I will not return to King Aegos empty handed. No, we still poses a stable, though slow, line of supply through the river. I’ve already sent for additional reinforcements, and explained the situation. Perhaps we will be blessed with several thousand more men.” “And if we aren’t blessed with reinforcements.. Then what, my lord?” “Then we take the city regardless.” The Lord stated bluntly as he moved across the quickly made wooden-plank pathways towards the command tent. Before continuing his elaboration “If we don’t cleanse this city, then we cannot carry on without jeopardizing our path of retreat. I don’t care how long it takes, this city WILL be ours by the time I march out of this land.” “The men will not be pleased to hear this, the sun and heat is already getting to them.” The officer once more pipes in as he continues to follow. “Then they will be motivated to fight harder” Byrron responds grimly as he finally enters the tent, sitting down behind his desk and pouring a glass of wine. “Do you have any more concerns for me, Centurion? If not, I hope you will inform the men on, and support my decision as I do it in their best interests. The shame of returning from the Kingdom’s first defeat untouched would be quite large…” The Centurion pondered his words for several seconds, retreating his eyes from Byrron’s glare as he did so. “No, My Lord, nothing more to bring to your attention… I will inform the men” He shot his superior a quick salute before turning and exiting the tent. “Make sure those scouts report to me immediately, Centurion!” The commander called out as he exits the tent. He scratches his beard as he looks down over the army’s records, pondering how he could possibly take this city.. ---------------------=0=--------------------- The black sky split with a tremendous bolt of lightning, hardly a second later, the accompanying thunder seemed as if it was loud enough to collapse houses. Sure enough, the ordeal was followed by a torrent of rain. The star-less sky relentlessly sent down sheets of rain upon the city of Koribalis, though the streets were nearly empty, and the city equally silent. Only the rain thundering on the tile roofs, and the rhythmic march of boots could be heard. Ser Edrich rode along the street slowly, his spatha resting across his lap. As his column reached the fifteen or so Mongerellian soldiers, the leader of the group stepped forward, the rain running off his helmet. He plants his spear into the ground, leaning on it as he speaks,“You overstep your bounds, Royals.. This city is under the jurisdiction of General Zem and his forces, we’ve already capitulated to your demands.. What more does King Aegos want from us” “You and this city is now under direct royal jurisdiction, but fear not. Aegos is a benevolent King to those who do not resist his rule.” The knight produces a copy of the Edict from his person, with General Zem’s approval stamped on. He extends his hand down, handing it to the captain. The man glares back up at Edrich as he breaks the seal, and skims the paper. “You won’t even know we’re here, King Aegos’s benevolence has even allowed the worship of the Deep One to remain legal. I will tell you this countrymen, you will have your revenge on the men who reduced your homeland to this state, King Aegos will redeem Mongerellia..” The captain hands back the edict, motioning his men to stand down and step aside. 9. Antigonid Dynasty 1519 Music Triumph in Mongerellia Triumph in Mongerellia had come swiftly and effectively. A short campaign of only several years had begun with minor setbacks, only to end in a resounding victory after the ‘Battle of Fool’s Ridge’ as Aegos’ army was calling it, an obvious play on the humiliating Battle of Fool’s Crossing. Nonetheless, after short negotiations at the Eadni capital, the remaining Mongerellian strongholds and cities threw open their gates for the approaching army. Koribalis and Sûm were brought into the fold, local officials and governors were raised to equivalent positions. Ser Euryleon Aetes, for his nearly life long service to House Antigos and skillful diplomacy is named Lord of Sûm. Lord Byrron, in exchange for his excellent leadership both during battle and campaign, is named Lord-Governor of Voreia Mongerellia (North Mongerellia). In Pelos the army returns as triumphant and extravagantly as they had left. Banners flew from every window as horns and drums sounded, welcoming the returning soldiers. At the front of the columns, King Aegos VII with a crown golden laurels on his head led the procession. Behind him, the various Lords and Generals rode. Wagons with paintings depicted the great victory over the Mongerellians and displayed the army’s martial prowess rode throughout the city. Barrels of gold and captured loot followed behind the aforementioned wagons, now displaying the great wealth brought to the Freehold through conquest. Truly, the army of Aegos VII was the finest in the far east. In the Royal Palace, King Aegos VII was once more crowned and bestowed with more titles by now surrendered Mongerellian officials, Latesian Aristocracy, Antigonid Nobles, and Holy men alike. The young king entered the palace as humble as one in his position possibly could be, but arose King Aegos VII, Voleus’ Chosen, Redeemer of the East, Titan of Averos, Hegemon of the Latesian Freehold, Triumpher of Mongerellia, and Upholder of House Antigos, truly a new man. Return to Averos A frequent waystation and bustling area of activity for those who remained loyal to the House of Antigos following the collapse, Averos has been the closest thing to core territory many Antigonid rulers could claim to control or rule over. Despite this, the dynasty was forced to abandon the isle millenia ago for a variety of reasons. Aegos’ ancestors had vowed to return to the island and reclaim it for the house, though it would be Aegos who would finally act on such vows. In early 1519 the first wave of Latesian settlers are dispatched to the Island. The planned settlement, known as Solace, is hoped to become a bustling port and a strong buffer to the capital, should invaders attempt to take it by sea. 10. Dutch United Provinces Music Victory in the North! For three years now, the United Provinces have been risen in rebellion against their Spanish overlords. A united cause in the north had led them to many victories against the forces of the incompetent Charles II. Throughout the years of 1861 and 1862 William of Orange had slowly claimed and consolidated the provinces north of the Rhine, culminating in the Fall of Rotterdam in 1863; where Dutch riders valiantly stormed the city with the help of the local populace. Now, the rebellion has entered its second stage. The Spanish have been rooted out of their northern strongholds, sent fleeing south, and the flag of the rebellion flies proudly throughout cities and towns north of the Rhine; However the war is far from over, with a battle hardened and dedicated army, William looks south to retake the rest of the south. The Rotterdam Line With the north secured, and a new Spanish army in the low countries, the defense of the recently reclaimed northern territories is paramount. A natural defense along the Rhine alone disways any advance north, though it is still deemed insufficient. In early 1864, Rebel Leader William of Orange, orders the fortification and construction of the ‘Rotterdam Line’. The many towns and fortresses across the Rhine are further fortified and provisions are allocated in the case it is besieged. Furthermore, numerous outposts and garrisons are set up along the Rhine in order to harry and whittle down any Spanish incursions northward. Wartime Industries The Principal Army, headquartered in Rotterdam, though well motivated and well led lacks much of the heavier and proper equipment required to wage a proper war. In order to better remedy this issue, the United Provinces look to their Protestant brothers as well as the homefront. Domestic policies facilitating the growth of a Dutch arms industries in and around the core territories are put into place, and a plea is issued to all [Protestant Nations], calling for any and all aid in their rebellion against the Spanish oppressors ______________________________________________________________________ Actions -Construction and fortification of the Rotterdam line, a string of towns and forts along the Rhine begins. Towns are allocated provisions to weather any possible siege, and garrisons/skirmishing forces are positioned in outposts along the Rhine to slow and harass any Spanish force that might launch an incursion north. Bridges across the Rhine are destroyed. -Domestic policies that would facilitate and encourage the growth of domestic arms and shipping industries, such as subsidizing new companies, and reducing taxes on those industries, and providing loans are enacted in the northern and core territories in order to better supply and equip the Principal Army and Navy. Furthermore, existing laws and legislation are reviewed. legislation deemed ‘unneeded’ is repealed and an effort is made to make sure the laws regarding business are transparent, adequate, and clear cut. -A plea is sent to all [Protestant Nations] calling for any and all aid for their war against the Spanish oppressors. -Secret Actions

  13. Antigonid Dynasty 1518 The Expedition along the World’s Edge Ever since the expedition had been forced to abandon their small merchant vessel after a deadly storm battered itself against the World’s Edge; the thick all engulfing jungle enveloped the small troop of men as they hacked their way through the jungle. It was all they had known for now days. On all sides, plants, ferns, and trees of all shades of green and sizes covered them as if they were within a giant’s throat. Even the sun’s rays seldom shined upon them, with all but faint rays penetrating the thick jungle canopy. When night falls, true darkness sets in. Neither the moons light, nor the shining stars breach the all encompassing darkness. The damp jungle wood, often making the lighting of fires nearly impossible. Despite this, as the men attempt to rest, what they swear is the distant shrills of unknown beasts keep them ever vigilant. Ser Edrich hacked a rather resilient sapling several times with his spatha until it finally splintered into tens of pieces and fell to the jungle floor. The motions of frequently clearing aside small and resistance foliage had almost become thoughtless for Edrich. He didn't even think about the actions, his arm simply swung the now surely dulled blade, his mind oblivious to it. He stepped over the felled sapling cautiously, continuing through the jungle. Behind him, the rest of the company's footsteps were nearly silent, absorbed by the thick foliage. “Edrich!” One of the men from the near centre of the column called out as the knight hacked his way through yet another shrub. “How many more days do you reckon we’ll be on this march? If our vessel had not nearly sunk, we’d have already arrived days ago. I don’t think I can stand this jungle anymore.” “Nor can I, Marcus. It shouldn’t be much longer on foot. As long as we stick to the coastline and this stream, We should arrive within a day or two. Pray to Voleus, and perhaps we’ll get there before nightfall.. ” The Knight responded as almost the entirety of his foot sunk into a thick mud, another common occurrence. Edrich withdrew his foot without much trouble before the march once more resumed. 16. Antigonid Dynasty 1517 Mongerellia, Early 1517 Long columns of soldiers snaked across the landscape in front of Aegos. As the sun slowly peaked across the horizon, the pillars of smoke arising from Mongerellian villages become fully visible, retaliation for the previous year’s defeat. Many of Aegos’ men were battered or bruised from the previous ‘battle’ If one could call it that. What was intended to be a surprise attack across the ford, ended in total disaster and humiliation. Hundreds of bodies filled the small crossing, and morale seemed to be at an all time low, all because he had foolishly believed they could take the crossing by storm. Since they departed from Pelos only last year, nothing but death and failure plagued the Antigonid host. However the past was written, and the men lost in battle could not be brought back, the mistakes could not be undone, only the future could be altered. Voleus had been absent, surely he had known the crossing was ill-advised and thus remained silent. Still, one could only hope for a sign, a message, anything… He spurred his horse, riding forward towards the front of the column where Lord Byrron, clad in his silver armor and plumed helmet shouted orders to departing horsemen. “Byrron” The King spoke as his horse arrived at the scene. The small contingent of his bodyguards trailing only several yards behind “Your Grace” the Lord replied, giving a small nod. “What news from the Capital?” “It seems all it well in the Royal City of Pelos. According to Lord-Governor Leontius Royce’s report. It arrived only yesterday. Economic expansion has continued as planned, and Leontius has succeeded in securing several profitable trade deals. Though, he states it would be nigh impossible to raise any reinforcements until next year, at the earliest.. ” “We will have to make every man count it seems then, how many day’s march are we from the next Mongerellian city?” in front of him the march of Latesian boots continues, almost drowning out his voice. Rows of pikes distorting his vision of the countryside. “We are still unsure, it cannot be far. It will have to wait for further scout reports, your Grace” “And of the Mongerellian armies themselves?” The King inquires, peaking an eyebrow. “Our Eadni friends have won a grueling victory over a second army in the west. The one that repulsed us at the crossing has shown little activity of note, especially during the wintering months. We should proceed with caution, Your Grace, we could be put in real threat of a pincer.” “It matters not, I will not be undone by mere forces of nature again, nor the mere wills of men. This I swear not only to yourself, But with Voleus as my witness. He returned my dynasty to the mainland, with our loyal swords for a reason, and I will not disappoint him. We will make the Mongerellians pay tenfold for the losses incurred on us at the crossing.” “So I hope, Your Grace” the Lord replies grimly, as he once more nods, departing to the rear of the column. Leaving the young king with his thoughts. The Northern Frontier Ser Edrich Palgos looked out from the watchtower constructed in the semi permanent camp. To the west, the vast jungle enveloped all he could see, what really swelled inside, none could be certain. The thick humidity slowly began condensing on his face as he turned to the east, the sun gleamed across The Expanse, yet another realm of mystery. Truly, he was stationed on the edge of the known world, what lurked beyond, he knew not. The knight quickly began descending from the tower, grumbling and muttering to himself about the blasting heat at even this early in the morning. The camp was filled with little activity. Several sentries dotted the walls, slowly going about their morning duties. Amidst the tents, the garrison was slowly rising, several men chatting as the others cooked their breakfasts. Edrich walked through rows of tents towards the command tent, garnering a salute here, and a nod there from the few men who had yet woken. He lifted the flap of the command tent, several other soldiers already inside, pouring over the areas that had been charted and they maps they did have. “News? Orders?” Edrich asked, addressing the men. “A little bit of both” One of the soldiers, a grizzled and older man, answered before digging through a small chest and producing a piece of parchment, the Royal seal on it broken. “The additional funds I requested have been denied by the Lord-Governor, as is the request for ships to better travel the coast. As far as orders go, we’re to remain here another year, as the expedition proper will begin in 1518; Additionally, we have orders to fulfill a request put forward by some royal scholars. Dig around, look for anything regarding the areas past. It gives the men something to do other than sit around and visit the local brothels..” “May Voleus help us then, I don't think I can withstand another year of this god forsaken frontier. Especially digging around in the hot sun” The Knight stated, his complaint met with solemn nods and grumbles from the rest of the camp leadership. “Your grumbles and whining won't change the Lord-Governor’s mind. We’re stationed on this frontier hell-hole until Aegos’ mind is content knowing we’ve discovered and seen all there is in the area. I only wish we were south, fighting with them now.” He tiredly leaned back in his seat, placing the parchment back onto the table. “Any additional orders then, Commander?” “Keep the watches as is, I’ll have some men south to get more supplies, as i'm sure we’re running low. As for the rest of you all, you’re dismissed, get back to your work” His orders were met with various nods and grumbles as the men quietly filed out of the tent. 18. Antigonid Dynasty 1516 The Army Marches Large crowds gathered before the Royal Palace in Pelos. The King was to speak, a rare occasion indeed, especially when it concerned the looming threat of the Mongerellians to the south. Rumors of Mongerellian raiders torching villages en masse had spread like wildfire. Now it was finally being addressed. The King, Aegos himself finally emerged from his palace, before he begun to speak. “The Mongerellian menace to our south has once more proven to us they are nothing more than frontier barbarians, capable of nothing more than violence and destruction. As many have already heard, last year, a path of destruction has been waged across our south western border. Villages of innocent civilians, innocent families, slaughtered and plundered. No survivors left alive. The Mongerellians have denied all responsibility for this attack, and refuse to accept our envoys. As such, I will march our armies south, I will turn back every Mongerellian barbarian who dare opposes us, I will scourge their lands and tear down their castles, I will bring into the fold every hold I march on, This is swear not only to you, citizens of Pelos but to the Voleus himself! May he bless our march south” As he finishes the crowd erupts into cheers and applause. Through the streets of Pelos the army of Aegos VII marched through the main causeway, directly to the city’s main gain. Royal banners hung from every standard and building, snapping and cracking in the wind. Marching drums and trumpets announced the departure of the host, playing joyous tunes. Royal splendor showered the departing men as they marched. Crowds of civilians cheered and waved, handing gifts and flowers to the soldiers, the chance to bring honor to their families and house hand finally arrived. At the head of the columns, Aegos and the nobility led the procession. As they trot through the streets of the capital, Lord Miros approaches the young King, handing him a small report. “Your Grace, it seems you have found favor in Voleus. Reports from Lord Byrron’s investigations indicate the mist covering the coasts has subsided, or at least the disappearances have stopped. This can only mean GOD approves of your march south. He has quieted the realm so you may better wage war. The masses will take it as fear spreading in the Mongerellian ranks” Aegos listens intently as he grazes over the parchment, rolling it up and returning it to Lord Miros’s hand, “Indeed, it seems Voleus has blessed our campaign. However It would be unwise to lose his favor so soon. Send word to the company officers as we exit Pelos, informing them of this great news. I will have a shrine to Voleus constructed on our march south, and ten bulls will be sacrificed in his honor” With that the Lord was dispatched along the column, and the young kick looked to the clear skies, the crowds and drums beating in his ears. If even GOD has endorsed his war against the Mongerellians, who could hope to stand against him. A man of his word, upon exiting the capital, several miles south the King halts his armies, constructing a small shrine to the Antigonid god, Voleus. When construction is finished, Aegos has 10 bulls sacrificed in the God’s honor along with a small festival, in the hopes he would further bless his campaign to the south. The Royal Army The Royal Army is the true extension of Antigonid power throughout the realm and surrounding areas. A well maintained, trained, and equipped army has been the staple of the dynasty for generations. With ambitions at home and abroad, especially against their neighbors. The Antigonid leadership sees it fit to restructure the armies. The new organization is meant to standardize fighting units into groups called ‘companies’, allowing them to be easily interchanged both in battle and on a strategic level. Antigonid Dynasty 1515 The Western Coast Lord Byrron walked slowly through the abandoned village, sword in hand, he stepped over the corpse of a young man, his throat cut laying in a pool of his own blood, he scanned the scene. Behind him a small column had begun to fan out across the village. “Scour the whole area! I want no stone unturned, Bring any survivors to me at once! We will find out what happened here!” The young lord called out to his men. He sheathed his blade, realizing there was no apparent threat, “Marcus” he said, motioning the legionnaire several feet from him to come closer. “Yes sir?” “Take twenty men, scour the rest of the coastline, all the way to Valadovos, anything you find you take back to Pelos.” The man gave a quick nod before trotting off, calling to his subordinates and mounting his horse. 22. Antigonid Dynasty 1514 A Foothold Secured In late 1513, the Antigonid dynasty finally came ashore in all its glory. A glorious host of the finest 12,500 men, and transported by paid for merchant vessels disembarked in eastern Naros. King Aegos VII of House Antigos is the first on the shore, with a host of Silver Legionnaires at his back. Separated by storms, a second Antigonid contingent led by Strategos Montfort Illius landed not far from the King’s host, they met light resistance, though quickly routing the peasant rabble and armed resistance they encountered. Only several days later, after assembling the entirety of the army and under a heavy storm; A quick and orderly assault on city walls rooted the surprised defenders from their positions in a very clean and rather bloodless siege all while the rain thundered from above. The unprepared monarch of the city was put to the sword, along with all his loyalists, their heads paraded through the streets. Aegos VII was proclaimed King with thunderous under applause and oaths of fealty from the nobles who correctly bent. (Strategos Montfort Illius issues commands shorty after Antigonid forces rout a small host sent to stop their landing) The foothold secured is most desirable. Now known as Pelos, The city sits along the coast, with high and sturdy walls. Wide streets and squares dotted the city landscape. The fortress of the city, called Whitehold, sits on an island of rock in the sea. Not far from the city, it is connected to the mainland with a stone bridge. The entrance is protected by a strong gate house, boasting two towers complemented by a thick set of gates. The path to the castle winds around the rock, sometimes at steep angles until meeting yet another gate at a perpendicular angle from the path. The keep boasts somewhat tall and rather sturdy walls made of a whitish gray stone, built in square and rectangular shapes. To the south, a second smaller tower sits on a second island, connected to the keep through a much smaller stone bridge. (an artist’s rendition of the keep, albeit much more glorious than it exists) Immediately following the coronation at Pelos, Aegos VII dispatched his Strategos, accompanied by some 2,000 legionaries to root out the last fragment of resistance at a castle known as Summerhold. Another light siege, followed by a brief and well planned assault over the walls led to a massacre. Brutal hand to hand, breath to breath combat, fighting for every inch of the fortress set in. For several days, the defenders worked to hold back the legionary tide, to no avail. By the end of year, Antigonid banners flew from the castle walls, and the last vestige of resistance to Aegos’s rule had be crushed. 23. Nation Name: Antigonid Dynasty BRIEF History: Following the collapse of the ancient Empires, now long dead and forgotten, the people of Naros were scattered to the wind. Millenia of chaos, lawlessness, and disorder blanketed the realms of men. During the collapse and civil war the tales say Philip Antigos I, a man of low noble birth was exiled from Naros with a company of only several hundred followers after a decisive defeat in battle. Philip, and to an extent the House Antigos was a peculiar entity, nobility of a godless empire who found themselves devoted to the God of Magic, more commonly refered to as Helios Fleeing the mainland with his family histories and records, several ships, and all the men still loyal to his banner, he and his ancestors were reduced to a traveling band of sellswords and merchants. Traveling the globe, selling wares, gathering knowledge, fighting wars, and maintaining the Antigonid dynasty for millenia. In recent years, with Kingdoms and crowns sprouting up all over the mainland, Aegos VII, an ambitious and bright young man; and current head of the dynasty sees the time to reclaim the lost glories of the ancient empires now more than ever. Months of preparation and planning culminated in the return of the Antigonid dynasty to the mainland. Sworn & loyal swords, and an array of nobles loyal to House Antigos led by the young monarch, and transported by sell sails, paid merchant vessels, and what ships the dynasty did have finally hit the beaches. A surprising and well planned assault on the foreign city quickly rooted the defenders out of their walls, towers, and keep. Shortly after the fall of the city, Aegos VII was proclaimed a King while the local nobility swore fealty. A foothold secured, The Reconquest had begun. Nation Culture: The culture of Aegos’s followers is mixed at best, and difficult to describe. The core of the Dynasty’s leadership practices far older and much more noble cultures, speaking in a much more educated and noble dialects. The culture is assorted, with individuals from all over the globe. More uniform in the newly conquered territories. Antigonid nobles, upperclassmen, and merchants often dress in bright and exotic colors, with elegant patterns and designs. While the common folk wear simpler drabs. Though Antigonid nobility and the upper class typically worship Helios (God of Magic), the peasantry and the common folk of the newly conquered territories find themselves worshiping a variety of gods. 24. World In Flames! [Late 1933] ________________________________________________________ A doughnut store under the name Krispy Kreme opens up in Nashville Tennessee, stories of the absolutely amazing doughnuts fill the papers in the Confederacy, some even make it to international news! In the Ottoman Empire, Arab rebels manage to wrestle all but a few costal strongholds from the Sultan’s forces. In late summer Saudi Arabia officially intervenes on the side of the rebellion, and a new pan-arab state is proclaimed! In the Caribbean, the Central American Federation seizes the Panama Canal from the remains of U.S forces stationed in the region. A previously thought to be extinct Carolina Parakeet is discovered in rather large numbers by scientists in the Confederate States of America, researchers and animal enthusiasts rejoice! The ‘colony’ of birds was supposedly non existent until a Frenchmen brought several of the birds which were his pets back into the American wilderness. The British Empire After much anticipation, the election results finally come in. The King’s Party, the new coalition aiming to sweep the election has grown rapidly in popularity especially with support from the King and the notable figures of the Party. In the Elections they manage to secure the largest section of parliament while smaller fringe groups like socialists, communists, anarchists, and conservatives form a sizeable opposition party. Following the election, which coordinated well with Operation Weserubung in Scandinavia, the public outcry clamp down on imperialist continental powers such as Germany, Italy, and Scandinavia reaches an all time high. The counter-attack against the Scottish in the north goes exceedingly well. RAF air superiority and an armored spearhead paired with well prepared troops shatters Scottish and sends them reeling north. Over the course of the spring through early fall the army advances, securing city after city. Additionally, a naval invasion directed by the Royal Navy successfully captures Aberdeen and the surrounding areas. By the end of the year, Glasgow is under siege, British forces are stalled just outside of Edinborough, and the far north continues to collapse against un-expected invaders. (sorry i didn't feel like writing a whole front) Preparation for offensive actions against Egypt continues, supply lines, logistical hubs, and command centres are set up as more and more men pour in from the colonies. The ‘Royal Pennies’ works well to help relieve and recover the economy. Subsidization sees money circulate faster and the growth of business and industry overall, especially in the arms industries. German Reich Germanization of the eastern territories continues, by the end of the year the process is nearly complete. Those who haven't been ‘germanized’ are either deported or dealt with… Public works projects continue throughout the year, with the first of the Autobahns being completed in early fall. The Fuhrer himself visits the construction site, clipping a ribbon to officially open it. Guns and Artillery pieces that the Reich can spare are shipped abroad, making a quick buck. The industry of Germany prepares to gear itself for a more prolonged and attritional war, much to the dismay of the General Staff and upper echelon military commanders. Naval expansion continues, the 10 new U-boats are easily finished in the 6 months. Republic of Argentina Though a state owned oil company is founded, and operations begin. It experiences little success, finding little to no oil wells. Maybe next year… The efforts to improve the economy goes well, especially with the assistance to public works projects. Those who are out of work find it again, and money once more begins circulating in the economy. Domestic investments also begin to rise, indicating the economy is on its way to improving. The Argentine army is mobilized, and several tens of thousands of reserves called up. However the government quickly shuts down the call to conscript every man between 18 and 45 years old, such an action would be both expensive and disastrous for the economy! Whoever suggested such an idea is shot! Scandinavian Empire The propaganda drive across Sweden and the newly conquered lands begins without delay. Previously unenlightened nords are quickly dealt with. Every household is given a radio, made in Sweden of course, so they can tune into their local government ‘news’. Economic plans across the Empire goes well, growth of industry in largely rural Scandinavia continues, and the conversion of an existing and extremely modern Norsk Hydro plant in Norway sees the Empire obtain the ability to produce armor, even if it is in rather small quantities for now… The joint effort to produce a cheap and affordable radio is easily completed, and both the Scandinavian and German governments now possess the ability to ‘educate’ their masses much more efficiently and effectively. The Italian Empire The Five Year plan is introduced with much approval. Debuting in mid June, it promises the growth of industry and infrastructure to many rural areas of Italy. Exiled from America or wherever else was in flames at the time, many capitalists and investors pour their money into Italian assets. A good start.. Imperator! Political diversification in the lower level officers is begrudgingly accepted. It does open the opportunity of service to many more eager Italians, however it also carries a much higher risk of dissent and even resistance with it. Many generals and officers alike warn Il Duce of this risk. Further development of Italian weaponry goes.. Poorly, hardly any new models or prototypes are presented to the government and the ones that are are extremely poor. However, several flaws are noted in the standard Italian gear. It is quite apparent that the standard issue rifle is far from adequate, the short barrel and outdated mechanism leads to frequent jamming and short range. The ‘tankettes’ currently employed by the mechanized wings of the army are also extremely obsolete, good for nothing more than clearing lightly defended infantry positions, they can be easily destroyed by small arms and enemy tanks alike. Many recommend the army adopt a completely new tank. In the skies, it seems that the aircraft in service are built and perform well, however their engines are extremely underpowered, resulting in many shortcomings. The rebel tank, as well as several more captured (albeit somewhat destroyed) examples are shipped to Milan. After thoroughly examining the vehicle, Italian engineers are confident they could reproduce the sicilian work. It is expected that the first working models would be ready for Late 1934, However Italy currently lacks the industry to produce them on a larger scale. 200.000 more men are pushed into service, many question as to why, they were winning weren't they? Maybe when the rebellion is over they can go home… Empire Francais Work into the extended Maginot line proceeds on schedule. The French Imperial Airforce and Army report excellent progress on their respective projects. The s35’s planned design will boast some of the best and thickest armor of any existing tank model and would totally outclass any service vehicle on the continent. The D.520 boasts comparably impressive stats, being more than a match for any of its counterparts. The s35 is estimated to be ready for production as early as Late 34, for the D.520, estimates indicate Late 35 unless more funding is allocated. Brazil Propaganda floods Brazilian media, educating the masses on all the great things the government wants. Limited conscription is enacted, slowly swelling the Brazilian Army’s ranks Financial aid to the industrial is welcomed with open arms, it quickly helps to foster the growth of domestic industry. Additionally further penetration into the country away from the coast begins. Settlers and capitalists move farther inland, closer to the raw material. Modernization and expansion of the fleet goes exceptionally well. Somehow, the Brazilian government and people manage to fund and execute the construction of not one but two more heavy cruisers during the brief half year period. Like Argentina, the founding of a State-owned oil company is pushed through. However unlike Argentina, the Brazilians manage to strike several somewhat substantial wells near the Venezuelan border If you missed the Modpost, as always pm me any actions you might have or make a yearlong post
  25. Several days following the Battle of King’s Landing Lord Tywin Lannister, Queen’s Regent, Warden of the West, Lord of Casterly Rock, and commander of the Lannister host sits in his splendid war tent. Around him were far fewer of his companions then common. Where once laughter and the clinking of glasses was heard, solemn silence is followed. Just two days ago the Lannister host had fled across the Blackwater, back towards home. Many brave companions had been left behind, and thousands of common men. Tywin himself was much tanner than usual. The sheer heat of King’s Landing burning to slag had seared his very skin. As always Kevan sat to his right, though his left seat was empty. Cersei was gone. Jaime as good as gone. Tyrion an imp, and ruling in his stead far away. His grandchildren either missing or hostage. Even his cousins were far away, catering to the defense of the West. He was alone, his only company death. Though the Lannister host still marched in good order, many and more were dead. The lion still had claws, but what to use them on? Troubling reports were coming in from all ends of the Realm. To the North only icy silence. The Vale was apparently on the brink of civil war. The Ironborn marauded the detestable men of the Reach, and to the south Tywin and Stannis’s personal war had seen an entire realm burnt and broken. Tywin was a man of pride and family honor, but what happens your entire family is dead, and no one is left to praise you? Ravens fly. The Lannister Host stops, to the surprise of many Lords. Tywin calls a war council, and lords and knights great and small summoned. The martial power of the West, those that are alive, join the council. Lannister Regulars stand guard outside the tent, with the new Dragon Lances. And for twelve hours, the men inside the tent are heard speaking. Finally Tywin Lannister and Kevan come out of their tent. After having conferred with the Iron Throne, and their own Lords, it was determined this pointless war must end. However the Army of the Seven and Lord Tywin would always ensure the rights of the realms citizenry who worshipped the Seven. Regardless, the blood bath is concluded. Swallowing his pride, Lord Tywin and his lords head to the ashes of King’s Landing to bend the Knee. Stannis awaits them on the fields of King’s Landing, surrounded by the dead and the dying, still victorious. -=+=- Further east, across the Blackwater, Stannis I of house Baratheon sat as a victorious King of the Ashes. Many of his men were dead, his capital a plume of smoke on the horizon. He sat deep in thought, until a rider burst into his tent. “Your Grace, our outriders say the host is marching on Kings Landing!” Stannis, clearly surprised they would try for another fight proclaims “Then I will destroy Lord Tywin sooner then I thought.” The outrider looking a bit frightened stammers “It is said he marches, to bend” Only hours later, the Lannisters had arrived. The two hosts once more face to face, no longer in terms of war and battle, but of negotiation and peace. After minimal formalities and pleasantries Tywin of house Lannister bent before King Stannis I of House Baratheon, First of his name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the first men, Protector of the Realm, and Lord of Dragonstone. The war against the West was finally finished, and the whole of the Realm let out a sigh of relief. Long had the bloodshed and war laid heavy on the small folk, now it was over… Only one pretender to the throne remained.
