World In Flames! ________________________________________________________ World Events A powerful tsunami and earthquake hits Japan in Honshu, killing some 3,000 people. In late March, the Enabling Act is passed in the Reichstag, effectively making Hitler dictator of Germany. In the following months he enacts a numerous more reforms, pushing further pushing his agenda and ideology. In Scotland, George Spicer reports the sighting of a mysterious and unheard of creature near Loch Ness. The event sparks serious interest in Scotland and abroad. A Swedish transport plane flying over central Europe is caught in a storm and disappears, presumably after crashing into the North Sea. Despite efforts to locate the crashed plane, nothing has been found. In Ottoman Arabia, tensions boil over into armed insurrection. The government in Constantinople, is slow and inefficient in its response. In Mesopotamia the rebels make serious gains, capturing important cities like Kirkuk, Baghdad, and Tripoli. By the end of May, the Ottoman army is on the defensive and sent reeling into anatolia. In late April, the Russian White Army invades communist controlled Sinkiang on the pretense of harbouring Soviets who fled from Russia after defeat in the Civil War. Within a matter of weeks the country is overtaken, and direct rule from St. Petersburg is imposed. Soviets who were not so lucky to escape the Russian advance hang from buildings and line the streets. Those who did escape flee to the United States, or the People’s Liberation Army. Svenska Riket Pro-Swedish propaganda booms from the capital at Stockholm, however its effectiveness beyond or even within Sweden is negligible at best. Many would rather not tune in, or perhaps dont even own a radio at all! The growth of domestic industry, specifically manufacturing gets off to a rather rocky start. Few investors were to be found and even fewer decided to invest in Sweden. However the abundance of domestic raw material helps the project get off the ground. Shipments of German arms, equipment, etc begins to flow into the Sweden and slowly filters into the regulars and reserve troops. By the end of the year the Swedish military will be fully equipped and familiarized with the German equipment. However a rather rookie officer brings the up the point that unless Sweden seeks to develop a sizeable tankforce and air force of her own, she is extremely lacking in heavy firepower and anti-aircraft guns. The formation of an Officer Corp picks up steam, aided by German advisors the program soon begins to fill the ranks of the Swedish army with capable and promising officers. 3 More heavy cruisers are laid down, and the budget groans. They are expected to be completed for early 1934. The Kingdom of Hungary The deportation of Austrians and other undesirables goes well. Austrians and other former Austro-Hungarian subjects look on the action with slight disappointment and disgust. However in Hungary its seen as a great step in the right direction. The idea of conscripting Jews into the army is shot down by military staff and government workers alike. Pressing an oppressed ethnicity into military service does not at all seem like a good idea. Instead they opt to deport them or do nothing at all. The DBSD is formed, and work on Project Pecs begins with a rough start. Many believe the planned vehicle is far to large, resource consuming, and unnecessary. At present the design is extremely ambitious given the tech available and it fits few of the roles tank fill on the battlefield. Deutsches Reich The recruitment drive begins, immediately picking up steam. Young unemployed boys and men flock to the army, swelling its ranks with promising and dedicated soldiers. OKW predicts that there will be little trouble in meeting the set goal. In the wake of Hitler’s rise to power, the industrial growth of Germany booms. Factories spring up, and are eagerly filled with workers. The construction of the Reichsautobahn begins with few hiccups, providing work and infrastructure. Development of tanks, and weapons of war continue British Empire After much debate, the vote of no confidence against George V and Ramsay MacDonald passes with by a slim margin. The Irish and Scottish rebels are contained relatively well. At sea, a full naval blockade of both countries set in, slowly sapping them of resources. The British mediterranean squadron finds little success in the destruction of Egyptian coastal assets. Coastal gun batteries and what planes the Egyptians do posses are able to ward the British off. The Squadron will need more assets in order to cause any real damage. Empire of Japan The ambitious plan to expand and modernize the economy finds much success. A fair amount of recently displaced and eager American industrialists help fund the largest of the projects. However the consumer goods market, though growing, tends to suffer from the lack of natural resources. The Fengtian clique, eager to get their hands on new equipment and to secure their Korean border, accept the support. However the genuineness of the ‘friendship’ is shaky at best. The Pacific States of America accept the offer. The planning for the invasion of the Philippine Islands goes rather well. With scouting and the allocation of resources for the invasion already well under way, the staff members assigned to the project say that the army and navy will be ready to begin by only Early 33 Naval Expansion begins Development of a new fighter is underway, Mitsubishi currently heads the project, labeling the project A6M. With an ingenious design in the works, It plans to debut the fighters possibly as early as 37’ Kingdom of Sicily The mobilization of the war economy, already well under way, faces some major challenges. Constantly under threat from Italian bombers and air sorties, factories are confined to small sizes or in concealed locations. Furthermore, the Italian fleet blockading the mainland makes communications, transportation, and coordination difficult. Nothing other than sympathy comes from the League of Nations Construction of stronger and more fortified positions on or near the front begins. Further refining of mountain warfare is underway. Austrian Empire Many fleeing from Hungary, find homes in Austria and her territories. Some are even eager to join the armed forces and fight for their homelands. The Armed forces sees a slight rise in volunteers. Designs for a new standard issue Artillery piece are drawn up. It will take more time to refine the design, but estimates suggest they will enter production by Early 34 The switch to a wartime economy is rather puzzling to some, the nation was at peace! However many see it as a step in the right direction. Sections of the army even mobilize, despite receiving no orders to do so. What meager funds the navy does have are stripped, and sent to aide tank production. Det Norske Kongeriket Metal Production sees an increase with the subsidization of Norsk Hydro, expansion also begins bringing jobs to the unemployed. The Sultanate of Egypt Machine guns, destroyers, and submarines all enter the forefront of production, mostly designs leased or bought from the French. The Egyptians military Industry also finds several french backers, who help the growth of domestic industry. What Civilian factories exist in Egypt are turned over to the state, and given to the war effort. Fortification of the Mediterranean coast, and Sudanese border is well underway. With it mostly finishing in by June. The spread of propaganda helps swell the Egyptian armed force’s numbers, and spurs support for the war against the British Imperialists. Investments into the Oil industry help increase the productivity of already established wells, and the hunt for more begins, however they come up short and no more are found to tap by June. They will keep looking! United Syndicates of America A more moderate policy is adopted throughout the Syndicates, much to the dismay of many of the more radical factions. However they can do nothing as the minority, and the move sure helps with international opinion! The Revolutionary Army, never under any supreme structure is slowly pieced together into a somewhat competent fighting force. However, it is still composed of hundreds of militas, movements, and national guards and is by no means a professional force. In West Virignia, the attempts to contact coal miners and resistance organizations meets little success. The Confederate government it seems, is doing an excellent job at rooting out and suppressing these movements. Reed’s deal with the capitalists succeeds! However this does not stop many from fleeing the country to other American factions, or abroad. The development of a ‘fighting car’ continues, however the project is moved further east. The Rock Island Arsenal is stationed right at the border and is easy for enemy intelligence to monitor. Additionally, the Syndicates’ grip on the region is rather shaky. Leaders of the project state that it will be finished for late 33, when production can begin. Various contracts are signed to better equip the Revolutionary Army. Italian ‘Empire’ The attraction of foreign investors goes extremely well, some find the civil war somewhat.. off-putting , but hey money is money! Small and promising factories in a variety of industries slowly sprout up all over Imperial-controlled Italy. Subsidization of the arm’s industry goes well, and it sees a sharp increase in productivity following the subsidization. Furthermore, sales to south american and asian countries become more common. The overhaul of the m1918 goes rather well, working out some of the kinks of the design. The new design enters production in late May. Design for a new ground-attack plane goes well, estimates show it will enter production by early 34 Empire Francais Extension of the Maginot line proceeds as planned, with the French footing most of the bill. Forts, gun emplacements, and bunkers slowly sprout up acrossing the Dutch-German border, expected to be fully complete by Early 35 The creation of new tank battalions goes rather smoothly, with only one minor problem, the new battalions have hardly any of the tanks required. The French tank industry, somewhat lacking in production struggles to produce enough fighting vehicles for the new formations Investments into the arms industry helps alleviate some of aforementioned issues, however the growth is rather slower than expected. Sales of arms to other countries specifically those of south america, asia, and even the middle east are more common place, with Brazil placing a large order for small arms after the Argentines ordered from Italy.

The Greater German Empire “Gott Mit Uns!” Late 2935 Commonwealth to blame? Upon hearing of the chaos in Neu Friedrichsburg, the young Kaiser was apparently extremely saddened and even wept for the faithful German citizens caught within the crossfire. But the rebellion gave him no choice, he would send in the Sturmabteilung, weakness was not an option. The fighting within the Colony was fierce, but after several weeks, the hardened veterans of the German Army fought their way through and crushed the rebel defenses. However, the fighting and loss of life was not the worst of the matter. After fully putting the rebellion to bed, the Imperial Intelligence Agency was put to work to discover the origin of this insurrection, what they found was appalling. IIA operations in Neu Friedreichburg interrogate rebel leaders, thoroughly pilfering rebel safehouses and intelligence caches. After the fact, It is beyond clear that the Commonwealth have funded the Rebels and perhaps even trained them. All to undermine the German hold on Mars Following this discovery, an extensive and thorough sweep down of the German Leadership and Command is ordered. The Kaiser personally orders the campaign begins, stating “Every last Commonwealth sympathizer, spy, and rat will be expelled from the Empire, they will pay for their hand in this Rebellion” Though it is unknown if the Commonwealth truly did have a hand in the rebellion, as no Commonwealth personnel or assets were found, cautionary measures are taken anyways. The Empire under threat With the uncovering the Commonwealth’s supposed plot in Neu Friedrichsburg, It is clear designs on German Mars might be a very real reality. The ‘Breadbasket’ of the Empire, might very well be under threat. Assuming as much, measures to protect the colonies are taken. Garrisons on Mars are to extensively drill and prepare more fortifications. Additionally, the construction massive ground-space batteries across the Mars holdings (including the moon of Deimos) is to begin. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Actions The IIA is to begin a campaign, extensively rooting out foreign influence and intelligence within the Empire, personally ordered by the Kaiser. Construction of Synthetic Fuel plants across Mars and Deimos are to begin. Information regarding the IIA’s findings from rebel interrogations and supply caches that point towards Commonwealth involvement in the uprising are made public. Lannister, Tarly, and Baratheon men alike littered the battleground. In the distance, a massive pillar of smoke trailed off into the sky. King’s Landing was lost.. But it mattered not, there was nothing that could be done now. The individual responsible would be punished justly. What mattered was the victory that had been won on the fields of King's Landing. The Lannisters who had dared oppose the King had been swept from the field, sent reeling back into whatever hole they came from. A rider approached the contemplating King, in his hand a message. He extended it towards the man. “Your Grace, word from the Crow’s Nest.” Stannis grabbed the message, reading through it quickly. He thought to himself a moment before responding “send out the order, rally the men, we march at dawn” with that he sent the man off. Looking back to the ruins of King’s Landing only another moment before turning back down the hill, his enemies were still many. A New Contender Several months ago, yet another King entered the game. Landing in the Stormlands and seizing the Griffon’s Roost shortly after, the supposed Aegon VI now ran rampant in the Stormlands. With the King’s host otherwise occupied, messages are dispatched to every castle and lord. They are granted permission to raise as many men as needed and every Castle is to hold out to the very last as their now King had held Storm’s End during Robert’s Rebellion. Any Lord who surrenders their castle with no fight, or bends the knee to the false king will be punished accordingly. “They have strong men, strong walls, and winter provisions, all they must do is hold” The King’s Promise The destruction of King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms had weighed heavy on the morale of the men, this was something that could not allow to happen. The King’s host had been with him, through hell and back; the fight was not yet finished. Pretenders still challenged rule from Storm’s End, now all their homeland’s were directly under threat. In order to raise morale, and give the men a purpose to fight for their king. Stannis Baratheon promises every man under the flaming Stag a sum of coins for their service. Additionally, any man who distinguishes himself in leadership, or on the field will be granted knighthood. A New Capital With the Lannister threat eliminated, and a new army under Stannis’s Command. Additionally, A Lannister pledge of funding to help rebuild the capital and further unite the realm extensively helps the situation. With this in mind, King Stannis orders that construction of a new Capital where King’s Landing once stood is to begin. First with a Keep, after long discussions with the newly befriended Tywin Lannister it is decided that the new structure will be the jewel of the realm, An eternal testament to the men who would see it built. Laborers, Architects, Stone masons, Blacksmiths, and much more from across the Seven Kingdom’s are summoned to the building site. The workers (or their lords) are promised gold for their services to the King. Under the supervision, protection, and help of the Lannister army, progress is expected to go well Actions -Reconstruction of a new capital in the old ones place is begun (see above) -Every stronghold in the Stormlands is ordered to fight to the last -Every castle in the Stormlands is to prepare for a siege until the Targaryean threat is lifted -The lords of the Stormlands are called to raise more men (pms) -Ser Davos Seaworth & The Princess Shireen are called to rejoin the main host from Dragonstone. Coupled with the extreme economic downturn of the 1920s, the world was plunged into chaos. In China, the disintegration had long preceded the conclusion of the Great War. Following the death of Yuan Shikai in 1916, the country was torn apart by competing warlords and political movements. In the north the Fengtian Clique makes massive gain, against both what remains of the central government, as well as Communist guerillas based in Taiyuan. In the south, the government loses ever more influence as the warlords of Guangxi, Fujian, and Jiangsu tighten their grip on the more industrial and developed region of the country. In The United States, extreme economic hardships brought on by the Great Depression bred radicalism and contempt for the government, this came to a head in October of 1930 when radical communist, syndicalist, and socialist rebels stormed the capital in Washington DC. Though the rebellion had little sustenance, it prompted a chain reaction that rippled through much of the industrial north and rustbelt. In a matter of months, the rebels had dealt devastating defeats to demoralized and disheartened federal troops. With faith in the federal government eroding rapidly, southern and west coast states systematically broke off from the failing government. Though on the verge of collapse, the rebel onslaught was eventually halted at the Mississippi and a stalemate set in. After roughly 2 years of fighting, a shaky peace sets in across the former United States. In Europe a new ideology rises across the former central powers. Sweden, after being robbed of honor and territory during the Great War is toppled, a fascist dictatorship taking its place. Italy, Hungary, and Germany are no exceptions either; as all three see rise in similar regimes. The Balkans too remain ever heated, as Austrian and Hungarian claims to the old empire remain ever prevalent and their bitter rivalry continues. The British isles are engulfed in chaos, similar to that of the United States as Ireland and Scotland declare separation from the Empire amidst extreme hardship. Their rebellions have proved relatively successful, the Irish have liberated all but a few ports, where only the might of the Royal Navy cements British influence. Scottish forces to have pushed past their own boundaries, dealing a series of surprising defeats to the British. In The Middle East tensions rise, an Egyptian revolt forces the British out of the suez and much of the province itself. The Empire in scrambles can do little at present to stop it. In Ottoman Arabia, the decaying Empire’s grip continues to loosen as independence, and Arabian nationalists threaten to boot the Turks from the region entirely. Chapter I: The Clouds Gather Going into the new year The British Empire: The pressure of economic hardships brought on by the Great Depression has pushed the long dominant British Empire to its edge. Even the vast wealth of the colonies cannot blunt the damage. The British Isles are where this is felt the hardest. Though recent economic trends show that the worst is behind them, the Scottish and Irish are still in stalwart rebellion! All while the average man suffers from hunger and unemployment. Despite all of this, British military might is no less formidable. With chaos in the Americas, the British are left as the sole and undisputed global naval power. Truly, Britannia rules the waves! On land, the British Army is still at its core a hardened and elite force, though it is overwhelmed with conscripts and volunteers in recent years.. Mechanization in the army is also rather lacking, and tanks are far and few between. The German Reich: With the ascension to Adolf Hitler to the Chancellorship, he has spent no time putting the suffering German economy to work. The unemployed are now sent to factories where ‘tractors’ and ‘convoys’ are pumped out on an industrial scale. Though the effects of the Depression are slowly being overturned, the country is far from where the leadership deems ‘ready’ The German Wehrmacht continues its massive expansion programs, despite the Treaty of Versailles. Though It is far from ready for any war, it shows promise. Interesting and new doctrine shows even more. The army also has new and interesting levels of mechanization, with new and advanced tank as well as armored personnel carriers debuting this year. Svenska Riket: The transition of power to the new fascist government in the previous years had been nearly bloodless. The people, ashamed of their countries performance in the previous war, and scorned by the treaty of Versailles, were in full support of the rhetoric spewed out by the new regime! Economic and military reforms had also seen the country nearly untouched by the Depression, making her the envy of her neighbors, and an ever tempting lure to other Scandinavians. Naval buildup and the modernization of Svierge-class battleships had also established the fledgling regime as a premier naval power in the Baltic, on par with or even exceeding the German Kriegsmarine. On the ground, the Swedish army had swelled far larger in size than any of her neighbors, though the military complex was in little position to support it. Hungary: The previous decades had not been kind to the Hungarians, a defeat in the Great War, and the dissolution of her Empire had left many scorn. Further more so as the Austrians continued to gobble up more and more of it in, first in Dalmatia and Bohemia, next in the establishment of a puppet regime in Slovakia. The Hungarians were sorely losing the race to re consolidate the Empire… Kingdom of Sicily: Fed up with the authoritarian nature of Mussolini’s rule, the Kingdom of Sicily finds herself in an interesting position. Her ground forces, though better trained and equipped at present will find themselves in trouble should a long protracted war set in, as the areas controlled currently lacks much of the capabilities to sustain the army. Sultanate of Egypt: The Sultanate currently sits in a period of prosperity, with the British firmly booted from the province, and control of the Suez established, the wealth of Egypt and commerce flows into the Sultan’s treasury. All of this and a population dedicated, even radical for their Sultan, a relatively modern and veteran army sculpts Egypt into a formidable enemy to anyone who might wish to oppose them. Empire of Japan: With the chaos in America, the Empire of the Rising Sun finds itself in a strong position. It’s greatest threat to East Asian supremacy in turmoil. The civil war in China presenting many opportunities for Imperial expansion. At present, the Empire is undisputed in its prevalence over the continent, how it will use this influence and power remains to be seen. The extreme independence and autonomy of the various branches of the Japanese Armed Forces is both a strength and a weakness. On one hand, it allows them to take the initiative and enact crucial reforms, on the other, the divisions also lead to inter branch rivalry and the hoarding of valuable war material from the other. Norway: After its victories in the Great War, and the acquisition of land lost to the Swedish ages ago, the country had entered a period of relative stagnation. The Great Depression had hit the country with a blunted blade, and thus the fallout was not nearly as devastating as it was elsewhere. However, the Norwegian armed forces were far from up to date, mostly stagnant from the Great War. Despite all this, the splendour of victory remained, and faith in the current regime and ruling party was better than ever! Austria: Unlike her Hungarian counterpart, the Austrians had been experiencing a series of successes in the previous years. First the industrial and mineral rich areas of Bohemia were captured, then the Dalmatian coast. In recent news, the establishment of a puppet-regime in Slovakia has pushed Austria one step closer to reuniting the Empire. Austria’s armed forces at present are fairly modern and fairly mechanized, despite their small size. They boast premier tank forces designed and maintained by Skoda works, based in Bohemia. However Austria’s small population heavily restricts the size of her armed forces, and could be seen as one of her biggest shortcomings. Zhili Clique Composed of some of the largest and best equipped sections of the former Beiyang army, the Zhili Clique holds its iron grip on Beijing and the surrounding areas. Support from western business and corporations also helps to pay the bills and arm the men. However this does not alleviate them from their current crisis. The staunch anti-communist, anti-Japanese power finds itself surrounded on most sides. The Fengtian army bearing down from the north, the People’s Liberation Army ever ready in the west, and the shadow of the Japanese looming over it all. The army is largely composed of poorly trained, conscript-esc troops equipped with outdated weaponry and led by questionably experienced officers. At sea, the nation’s navy is one of the biggest, after commandeering much of the Federal Atlantic squadron, though it suffers from the same problems as the army.

The Greater German Empire “Gott Mit Uns!” I.I.S.T Crackdown & The search for intelligence The Imperial Institute of Science and Technology had shown extreme insubordination in the previous months. Personal feuds along with inter-university rivalries had prevented any advancement and had costed the Empire time that it did not have. The Kaiser looks on the situation with extreme disgust and embarrassment. In response to this, the Kaiser strictly orders the institutions put aside their personal glory and rivalries and continue scientific work. If not complied with, Frederick X would find men who would. Additionally, a vast population of engineers and scientists exist throughout the colonial holdings of the Empire. This untapped scientific potential coerces the Kaiser to pass a motion that would scour the colonies for above average to genius engineers and scientific minds who would work for the betterment of the Empire. Elara & Deimos Following the limited colonial success of the previous months mostly due to unforeseen complications as well as piracy, the Empire settled itself down on two more rocks at least. Following the success of the Reach campaign, Stannis was once more confronted with the Lannister rebels. A host who had captured Tumbleton in his absence and slaughtered the garrison. However such deeds would not go unpunished. On the 23rd Stannis’s men and his Reach allies converged on the Rebels, slaughtering hundreds and routing the rest. Across the empire, his funeral procession was broadcasted on both television and radio alike, a public day of mourning was allocated for the event. Though publicly, all were distraught with the Kaiser’s death, the leadership of the empire celebrated in private. Long had Wilhelm XI neglected duties of state, which led to what many saw as an unfavorable position for the Empire. However, all of the neglect and stagnation of Wilhelm’s reign would swiftly be undone. In early 2934, Frederick X ascended to the throne. He was a popular and competent man, adored by his subjects and officials alike. The young Kaiser, eager to undo his father’s damage had anxiously awaited his ascension. His early reign would see the implementation new legislation. Surely the empire would flourish under his wise and guiding hand. They will be tasked with the impossible and expected to succeed. The Rights of Man Across the empire, particularly Mars, a vast majority of the German population lives in awful conditions. As a man of the people, this state saddens Friedrich X. However long and strained talks both within the Reichstag and with the United States seek to remedy this issue. In exchange for mutual backing of American-German colonial ambitions, the Empire agrees to enter a partnership with American Corporations. Facilities on the large and sprawling colony worlds are leased to the companies, who will in turn work to provide the average German with the wonders of the modern word. Additionally, the Kaiser encourages the Reichstag to move to pass legislation that would allocate more representation to the average citizen on local and colonial levels of government. Once more the True King of Westeros stands victorious. The Battle of the Blackwater had resulted in a Pyrrhic Victory. Much of the Royal fleet had been laid to waste, and massive swaths of the army were dead or wounded. Though this does nothing to tarnish the King’s Victory. Stannis Baratheon, outnumbered and beset on two sides weathered the Lannister storm, seizing the city. With the Victory at Kings landing, a host of problems now faces Stannis Baratheon. He had inherited a largely broken city. Portions of the city had been destroyed and devastated in the siege. Two of the gates weren’t even in tact anymore. Additionally food was critically low and the populace had been promised it. To keep order, martial law is declared and engineers/craftsmen get right to work repairing the gates As such, Stannis Baratheon calls upon [House Tyrell] to honor their agreement and reopen the Rose Road. A Message to the 7 Kingdoms Stannis Baratheon now sits firmly on the Iron Throne. All who opposed him either dead, deserted, or fleeing for their lives. The second step in uniting the 7 Kingdoms had been completed, but there was still much left to do. None of the 6 remaining Kingdoms had bent the knee, this would of course change. The King once more dispatches Ravens to every corner of the realm. With the true king in power, this ‘War of the 5 Kings’ was nothing more than a rebellion against the crown. Those who refused to submit would be treated as rebels. The Baratheon Host The Stormlords has been right in bending the knee, no one could dispute that fact. However Stannis’s army was largely damaged from the attack on King’s Landing and if these rebellions were to be put down, he would need to amass a larger host. Ravens are dispatched to the Stormlands, and The Vale. The King calls his banners and all are expected to answer his call. Republic of France 1921 ‘A Corrupt Bargain’ Since the end of the Civil War, the state had experienced several instances of political turmoil. Charles Faucheux’s political bloc still made up a formidable section of the National Assembly. As well as several fringe groups of Fascists, Monarchists, and the like, however the majority was still controlled by Jaures’ Socialist Party. The political landscape left from the elections had made it hard to push through legislation and reform. As a result, the people of France suffered. In early 1921, at the request of Jaures, the two majors political blocs meet in a private venue. Heated debate and rhetoric travel throughout the room as furious negotiation took place. However despite this, a majority of the Unity bloc including Faucheux himself had agreed to the cooperation offered by Jaures’ and his socialist party. In the wake of the meeting which many fringe politicians labeled ‘A Corrupt Bargain’ a cooperation between the largest of the two main political parties ensued. Over the course of 1921, especially the early months, huge amounts of socialist and economic reforms are pushed through the National Assembly, breaking the relative deadlock between the two factions. Militarism on the Rise Following the daring move to stand up to blatant British Imperialism over a vulnerable France, the government finds themselves unburdened by debt. With far more spending power as well as renewed support from the Internationale, many projects previously restricted to paper are made a reality. In addition to the nationalization of certain industries, the reconstruction continues as planned. However, the French Corp of Pioneers is tasked with much of the heavy construction so as to lessen the cost and increase the speed of construction. A Warning to Spain As the French State continues its reforms and militarization, it grows in strength and prosperity with every coming day. However this has not stopped Spanish treachery. Once again they had moved to try and seize French colonies in africa. Such an act was unacceptable. In early 1921, President Jaures officially denounces the Spanish’s blatant imperialism. In a show of strength, the French navy is deployed to the bay of Biscay along with the deployment most veteran and modern Grand Armee units on the Spanish border. Actions In cooperation with the 2nd Internationale, Faucheux’s Unity party and Jaures push through proven reforms and approve increased military budgets. A political drive to increase the ‘Never Again!’ mentality and spur support for military projects across the country continues [2 years] Military Arsenals and Private companies are contracted with the manufacturing of previously developed military technology such as planes, tanks, armored personnel carriers, and armored cars. The sale of a brigade’s worth of Ft-20s along with the production licenses for heavy french artillery and small arms is finalized with Ireland. The P.L.A and Grand Armee host joint military exercises in order to increase cooperation and lower tension between the two branches as well as refine military strategy. But he was far from satisfied, the War of the Five Kings still raged despite the first succumbing to treachery, and he would not rest till the rightful heir is placed upon the Iron Throne. (Storm’s End, the seat of Baratheon power) Consolidation of the Stormlands- 8/9 Even after the fall of Storm’s End, the numerous lords and vassals of the Stormlands remain stubborn. Ravens are dispatched to every corner of the region, to every castle and town. Submit to Stannis Baratheon, the true King of Westeros or be subdued at his hand. Those who see reason, are rewarded with positions of power, leadership, and council within the new Stormlands. Storm’s End- 8/10 Stannis’s war council gathered deep in the halls of Storm’s End, one of the most formidable strongholds throughout the 7 kingdoms. Before them a map of the Stormlands and its surrounding territories. The planning carried on deep into the night, with seldom room for rest. Though the work was well worth it, the following morning orders are carried throughout the Baratheon host. King’s Landing will fall.. As the host departs the recently won Storm’s End, a single excerpt from King Stannis’s speech resonates with them all. "I defeated Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. The Most Serene Republic of Venice Status of the Republic The Most Serene Republic of Venice was experiencing more than prosperity. With every coming day, the streets of the capital welcomed more and more citizens. Constantly growing and expanding. The Venetian fleet had reached even greater heights with its participation in the 4th Crusade. The Adriatic might as well be known as the Venetian sea! With the conquest of Zara earlier in the year, the Republic’s holdings had expanded across most of the Dalmatian coast. But still, there was more to be done.. Domestic Matters At home, matters of improvement were always welcomed. At the beginning of the year, engineers and workmen alike are hired by the Doge himself to continue the expansion of Venice. Not only will these new projects house the ever prevalent immigrants, but vast markets, harbours, and housing districts of marble and gold will be built across the city. Without a doubt, Venice will be a city of wonders! Naturally, following its capture, the city of Zara will be reconstructed in full. Sufficient sums of funding is granted to government agents in order to begin the process. The people of Zara are all offered housing across other sections of the Republic while the city is rebuilt. Foreign Matters Seeking to grow both foreign and domestic relations, several envoys are dispatched across the mediterranean world in hopes of securing favorable trade deals, and fostering friendly relations. The most important of these missions is destined for the Kingdom of Sicily, where a treaty concerning military cooperation between the two powers is offered. Gold Company In a world constantly plagued by warfare, destruction, and strife the need for a formidable army is always prevalent. As such, the Republic would begin raising a proper one. Ten thousand of the Republic’s finest men are raised, they will form the core of the army. Known as the ‘Gold Company’ they will receive extensive training and the best equipment money can buy. The Fourth Crusade As the Crusader fleet drew ever closer to the ancient city of Constantinople, a tension hung in the air. Restoring Alexios IV to the Roman throne would not be a peaceful matter and the leadership knew . There was also the matter of excommunication, if the Crusading army caught wind, they would desert en masse. As such, a single vessel is dispatched far ahead of the main fleet, to deliver terms and offer negotiations to the Roman Emperor in Constantinople. Actions Projects expanding and refurbishing Venice are undertaken. The reconstruction of Zara begins, citizens from the city are offered housing elsewhere across the republic while the reconstruction is underway. Envoys are dispatched to Mediterranean powers in an effort to foster friendly relations. A treaty proposing a military alliance is offered to [The Kingdom of Sicily] The Gold Company, an elite group of 10,000 men is raised in Venice, they begin training. 1863 June-December ______________________ Events 1863 In December, Mexican forces are pushed over the brink. They had suffered defeat after defeat at the hands of the French Army. Baja California had been absorbed by the Empire. Mexico City had fallen earlier in the year along with many of Mexico’s larger cities. The government only loosely held the northernmost areas of the country. On December 15th 1863 the Government officially surrenders. The Empire of Mexico is established with Maximilian I at its head. Horace Lawson Hunley showcases an interesting contraption in August. It is a hand powered Submarine! Hunley pushed the military applications for the vessel though many are skeptical. Following the death of Frederick VII of Denmark, the 2nd Schleswig-Holstein crisis begins. ______________________ Commonwealth of Massachusetts The draft largely fails. Massachusetts had already conscripted huge portions of their manpower and the ones called up were vital for production of war material. Loans are taken and the Ironclad project is kept afloat, adding even more to the Commonwealth’s national debt. Public opinion of the war rises, though a portion of the population still sees it as unjustified. Production of the spencer rifles begin to fall off. Most of the skirmishers and portions of the cavalry had already received the weapons. Commonwealth command saw the weapon as far too expensive, overly complicated, and to taxing on supply for regular infantry. Pennsylvania Commonwealth The five year plan continues as planned A contract is obtained for the Whitworth rifle and small scale production begins. However alike the Sharps and Spencer rifles, it's far too expensive and complicated for large scale production. A sister ship to the PCS Bismarck is laid down. Union of Concord Diplomats are dispatched to Europe, though embassies are established, most of the continent looks unfavorably on the New English. Commonwealth of Virginia The new government is formed in Richmond with Lee named ‘Lord Protector’. The reform invokes widespread and furious debate. Supporters of slavery and the aristocratic and landholding elite both supported the change, die hard southerners remain eerily quite. However particularly in northern and West Virginia where support for republicanism and abolitionism was more than prevalent the regression in slavery laws was unacceptable. In addition to the abolition of a seemingly democratic government provokes violence. West Virginian delegates officially separate themselves from the government in Richmond. In December the area officially declares INDEPENDENCE from Virginia. Upon hearing this news, the West Virginian 4th Corps in New York refuses to continue fight and demands transportation back to West Virginia. Congo expansion continues as planned, Virginians begin to penetrate deeper into the jungle. Rifling of muskets and cannons begins in arsenals across the state. Tredgar Iron Works in Richmond is contracted to chiefly spearhead the project. France laughs at Virginia asking for concessions after sending volunteers themselves. The 300 Needle guns are delivered, at great expense to the government New York New York Central Railway and Erie Lackawanna Railway solidify their deal. Investments continue to flow into the Republic of Asbury. A contract for the production of Parrot rifles is given out. They enter production and distribution begins late in 1863. A 2nd Ironclad is laid down, it is a sister ship to the first one finished only months earlier. The additionally 25,000 men are recruited. Federation of Rhode Island & Connecticut The two additional Ironclad keels are laid down in Mystic and Portland shipyards respectively.\ The endeavor is completed and ready for 64’ The stockpiles begin dispersion and warbonds are but up for purchase, helping to supplement the Government’s spending. Additionally the light press censorship helps to raise public support and demonize the New Yorkers. The brigades are raised Musicians tour the military camps, raising the spirits of New English soldiers across the front. Cincinnati League The newly adopted firearm is put into production. Foundries across the league begin to churn out the rifle. By the end of the year sizeable portions of the army sport the new gun. Expansion of the army in terms of manpower is authorized and completed. However the absurd amounts of rifled cannons and gatling guns requested are not met. Small deliveries are made but the ordinance is far to expensive for an outright purchase. Michigan rejects the invitation CSA Thomas Semmes is re elected as president of the Confederacy. Seen as the main force behind southern unification, public opinion of him is very high. Throughout Louisiana, the revival of French culture is well received. In schools French language begins to be taught again. Discussion for the expedition is conducted. The census is that 64’-65’ would be perfect for such an endeavor. The ironclad is laid down. Drawing inspiration from New York’s Commodore, its planned to feature a rotating turret with two Brooke guns of a larger caliber than on the existing Ironclad. Development of a 300 pound Brooke gun begins The Standard Cotton company slowly begins to absorb and assert dominance over the exportation of cotton to the north. Republic of China 2037 ________________________________________ The Jade Corps In early 2037, a more than interesting company emerges from China, entering the worldstage. Known as the Jade Corps, they are a private military group. Boasting some of the most technologically advanced and mechanized forces on the world supplemented with contracted veteran chinese military officers from the Civil War period it is a more than capable force. The Corps publicly issues a statement offering their services to world governments and organizations alike. To the public, the Corps was nothing more than the latest in private military companies, however there was far more to it. The corps, founded in close cooperation with the Chinese Government in Tianjin was more a tool than anything. An anonymous and neutral extension of the Government’s power. It was completely funded by the Chinese armed forces. Of course, this was a closely guarded secret only the highest echelons of the government would know about. _____________________________________ Hong Kong Military Expo The Armed forces, constantly searching for new technologies and innovations hosts a military expo in Hong Kong, a historic hub for commerce and business. The expo would invite foreign and domestic companies alike, asking them to present recent research, prototypes, anything that might be of interest to the armed forces. Republic of France 1920 ______________________________________________________________________________ The O.N.A During the course of the Great War and the French Civil War, Large advancements in military technology had been made. The first tested and adopted semi automatic rifles debuted in early 1920. France had been the third country on the world stage to pioneer tanks. With France embroiled in the reconstruction, Charles Faucheux, the Minister of War wished to continue such development and keep France far ahead of her contemporaries. In August, 1920, the Orleans National Arsenal is founded. It is the first built after the end of the Civil War. The Arsenal is part of a larger program to continue development of primarily small arms, tanks, and army equipment at a reduced cost as to working with independent companies. The opening of the arsenal marks the continuation of development of French Army technology. ______________________________________________________________________________ 1920 Naval Plan In the previous years, many of France’s colonies were lost due to internal strife. In the Great War, its navy performed far from perfectly. It was clear that the French Navy was lacking. If this issue was not remedied, France would soon lose her ability to project power far from her borders and even in Europe itself. As such, Charles Faucheux, newly appointed minister of War announces a plan to expand the French Navy. It would follow France’s historical solution, she could never match the likes of Britain in pure numbers, so she would push forward the innovations of the time. In June of 1920, the development of a French Carrier emphasizing speed would begin. Along with development of the a carrier, the option of converting one of the existing vessels into a Carrier is looking into. In tandem with this development, a new class of ships that had finished development in the earlier half of the year is laid down. The Lyon class battleship as its known, with a displacement of only 19,500 tons, it shows the clear change in French doctrine, moving away from the heavy and expensive dreadnoughts of the modern era. In total, 5 are ordered, they are to be built incrementally over the following years so as not to strain the countries economy. The new Lyon class would also sport a number of changes and improvements in order to not only lessen its cost but improve the ship. Firstly, the vessel would host a significantly smaller super-structure, this would be the primary factor in reducing its cost. Furthermore small-tube boilers and a large reduction to gear assembly for two propellers significantly increased the ship's engine efficiency and allowed it to reach higher speeds, additionally the Lyons freeboard would be lower, reducing the weight and cost but making it a bit miserable for the boys on the bow. ______________________________________________________________________________ Civilian Affairs Across France, the country was still far from reconstructed. Littered with plague victims, destruction, and radicalism there was still much work to be done. The government continues to pour massive portions of the budget into programs to rebuild the country. Additionally, political campaigns to pacify and de-radicalize the populace begins. ______________________________________________________________________________ French Menu The Orleans National Arsenal is opened A political drive to increase the ‘Never Again!’ mentality and spur support for military projects across the country begins. A political drive to ‘de radicalize’ France begins. With more than 5% of France’s debt paid, a plan to incrementally pay it off is formulated and put into action. Military development for all aspects of the army continues, This includes the development of small arms, light vehicles, tanks, and airplanes. Specifically the refinement of the semi automatic rifle, an improved (single wing) fighter, and a lighter and faster tank. Contracts for these desired weapons are offered to companies who would develop them, additionally the O.N.A leads a development project of its own. The government is sure not to overspend in this regard [1 year now] Development of a French Carrier begins, the project is purely on paper for now. Additionally, the prospect of converting an existing ocean liner/vessel into a carrier is looked into. An ambitious naval plan is adopted that would debut the Lyon class battleship designed last year. 5 are planned, they will be laid down & paid for incrementally so as not to strain the country’s spending. A sale of the new Semi-Auto rifle that would equip the entirety of Austria’s Jagdkommandos is finalized. The order is put into production and allotted to be delivered by next spring. Reconstruction continues, additionally estimates gauging how much longer reconstruction programs are needed are requested. [1 year now]

Republic of France 1919 ______________________________________________________________________________ Peace at Last! After many grueling years of civil war, turmoil, and strife, the French Civil war was finally over! Following the complete collapse of the Bonaparte forces, the Grande Armee quickly moved into the region. The promises of the terms were being carried out in every regard. French soldiers moved quickly through the urban and rural population centers alike, aiding those in need and helping whomever might need it. Only days after collapse at the front, Charles Faucheux’s ‘Vulcan Corps’ Enters Brest in ceremonial fashion. Pictures are snapped, the event is published across France and abroad. It was not only symbolic, but literal. The Royalist cause was defeated, France was once more united. Even the farthest corners of their cause had fallen. On the political scene, former Bonapartists were welcomed with open arms back into the National Assembly. Photographs of the now whole assembly circulate France. The message was clear. Any divide left from the civil war would not be tolerated! The Nation was once more whole. ______________________________________________________________________________ The Reconstruction The scars of the Great War as well as the French Civil War ran deep. Much of France lay in ruins. Entire cities had been reduced to rubble and ash, vast plains malformed into an array of trench systems. The manpower, economy, and pride of France had evaporated in less than half of a decade. Her colonies left to the vultures. Thousands had been displaced, even more suffered from rapmant Dutch flu. The government looked on the situation with a face of shame and despair. To solve this crisis, programs founded in the previous months receive huge amounts of funding. A large portion of the capital coming directly from France’s allies over the channel and across the continent. Furthermore, initiatives to treat and help those affected by Dutch flu also given more funding. The programs would be focused on several things. Employing the help of the French Pioneer Corps to lessen the cost, the programs would rebuild infrastructure, population centers, old trench networks, and industrial centers. ______________________________________________________________________________ The Grand Armee (Victorious French soldiers pose for a picture) After years of fighting, it was all finally over, hundreds of thousands of men fought, were wounded, or lost their life for the great nation of France. Every man has done his country a great service. However they were no longer needed. Following the conclusion of the French Civil War, yet another massive demobilization program is enacted. The Grand Armee currently one and a half a million men strong is downsized threefold to a size of only 600,000 men in addition to the logistics corps, and the air force. ______________________________________________________________________________ Never Again! With the conclusion of the French Civil War, G.Q.G launched a complete evaluation on French military performance in the previous conflicts. This brought up many horrendous points. During the Great War, the French Army had performed abominably. Furthermore, the constant deadlock of Trench Warfare caused immeasurable loss of life and equipment during both conflicts. The nation of France had been humiliated! Her colonial possessions had largely been stripped from her. Her homeland was laid to waste, almost 100% of the fighting took place on French soil. This was an embarrassment that would never be allowed to happen again. In late June, G.Q.G in coordination with the French Government announces an ambitious plan to advance the French armed forces far past the standard of european armies. To spur the rebuilding of the French Industrial sector, French companies specifically in the automobile and aircraft industries are given large contracts to develop state of the art vehicles and planes for use by the French armed forces. Full scale reconstruction of France begins using both foreign donations and the French Pioneer Corps. Republic of China 2037 ______________________________________________________________________________ The Waking Dragon clad in the Light of a Rising Sun! The year 2037 marks a historic one for the Pacific. Long had the area be divided between Chinese and Japanese spheres of influence. Bitter rivals since the first Sino-Japanese war. However, this was the beginning of a new era. In January of 2037, the first Sino-Japanese summit was held, the second one in March. Over the course of the year, relations grew exponentially. December was the crescendo of these relations. Yet another summit, held in Tianjin, the capital of China marked a historic day. The event was widely publicized. Pictures of Emperor Naruhito and President Li Qiang shaking hands covered the front pages of the news across Asia. For days, both governments engaged in heated discussion, the entire world waited in anticipation. What would come of yet another historic meeting? Their question was answered with a glorious announcement. On December 21st 2037, the Tokyo-Tianjin Axis was established. The announcement was accompanied by a glorious display of Asian military prowess. Massive joint Sino-Japanese military parades rolled through the streets of Tokyo and Tianjin. In the skies, Chinese jets roared, at sea the Imperial Navy remained ever dominant. The coalition would focus on the preserving the peace, prosperity, stability, and defense of its member states.
