  1. Army of the Northwest Year 2070 ——————————————————— The remains of the old school buildings were dark, derelict, and were on the brink of collapse. But, it was the largest building under the control of Northwestern forces. Thus, it would have to do as the chief government facility. General Whitefield trekked through the ruined halls. It was a hub of activity. Sparks showered the tile floors as Army Engineers repaired the structure, or secured electric lines from the finally operational generator. Their progress was good enough, by the year’s end Whitefield’s staff and impromptu government would have a base of operations. In the courtyard, much of the Army’s remaining material was gathered and prepared for a slow assembling in the nearby buildings. The Army of the Northwest had only arrived in the Mud City days ago, and after an unforeseen explosion, they had lost nearly all of their remaining firearms. Finally, Whitefield reached the end of the long hall. A simple door, marked by the Army’s insignia, awaited at the end. The General pushed the door open, entering into the hastily assembled meeting room. A single long table ran across the center of the room. Maps and ledgers were laid out across it. The assembly of Whitefield’s staff as well as some related personnel shot him a quick salute before he took a seat at the head of the table, brushing off his officer jacket. “Brief me on our situation, gentlemen. How much material was lost in the munitions explosion?” The General, a now aging man said with a sigh. He ran his hand across this beard as he examined the maps before him. Before any of the other men could reply, the Chief Engineer, Joseph Halleck speaks up, “Inventory indicates that essentially all of our firearms were lost in the explosion, sir. My company is establishing a small facility to begin working on a replacement design, but until that, we’re sitting ducks..” “Very good Lieutenant, keep me informed of your progress, its critical to our survival.” The General replies “In regards to our position strategically, the newly formed 1st and 3rd Company have secured the general area. Engineering units and civilian elements have begun to set up the Hydroponic equipment throughout the area. Additionally, some minor facilities to begin producing raw metals have been established.” “Excellent, keep our focus inwards. The Army is too ill equipped to deal with any external threats at the moment. Our focus should be on the establishment of a functioning colony, as is our mission” “Of course, sir…” ——————————————————— Actions Population: 3,000 Net Production: 2M / 2F / 7S / 2E / 1AE / 8R Available Funds: 21,450 Financial Actions -Two more Hydroponic facilities are set up throughout the colony (7500 Caps) -Surplus food is allocated to feed the masses (7S) -13,950 Caps & the unused resources are saved Mod Actions -Joseph Halleck’s Science & Engineering team begin development of a standard issue rifle. 2. Faction Name: Army of the Northwest Civilization Type: Civilized Faction Backstory: In the late 2060s, the first rumors of Chicago had begun to filter into the Confederacy. Tales of an ancient, pre-war city, full of treasure and tech. A wondrous prize, rediscovered! Of course, Confederate pioneers were clearly not the first to hear of this prize, and would certainly not be the first to arrive. No doubt, the Mud City would be crawling with scum, tribals, mutants, and worse... But such an opportunity could not go unexploited. By 2067, the first expedition to The Mud City had been dispatched. The mission had not been long, a quick scouting operation. The only route to the city was long, and perilous, but worth it! Expedition 001 had been beyond successful, retrieving many small yet significant pieces of tech, they had even reported the metropolis to be emptier than anticipated. With such astounding success of the first expedition, The Confederacy’s Senate was eager to claim this jewel for themselves. A proper colonization mission, several thousand strong, equipped with all the necessary supplies, and accompanied by the newly formed Confederate Army of the Northwest under the Command of General Frederic Whitefield set off to their destination. Their journey was harsh. Unforeseen clashes with bandits and raiders, disease, and lack of experience caused extreme casualties and loss of equipment. By the time the expedition and the accompanying army had managed to reach the fabled city, they were nothing more than a skeleton crew of the original expedition, most of the survivors being military personnel. Now, with the Army of the Northwest arrived at its destination, it falls under General Whitefield to carry out the mission. The Mud City, it’s secrets, and it’s treasures must be secured for the Confederacy, one way or another… Character 1 (Leader): General Frederic Whitefield Overall commander of the Chicago Expedition and The Army of the Northwest. Whitefield is an ambitious and experienced General. The death of his immediate family en route to the Mud City has only made him more determined to claim it for the confederacy. Character 2: Colonel James Kingston One of Whitefield’s most capable subordinates. Colonel James Kingston commands the strongest of the Army of the Northwest’s units, usually from the thick of the fighting. He is an opportunistic commander Character 3: Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph Halleck The Army of the Northwest’s chief Combat Pioneer. Halleck is a well read and brave character. Knowing his way around a variety of machinery, he was one of the sole reasons the Army of the Northwest’s expedition even arrived within the Mud City.
  3. Orix, Lord of Corruption ------------------ Awoken from an eternity of slumber, or perhaps born anew, Orix knew not, and he cared even less. Once he was asleep, or he was nothing, or neither. Now, a breath into the eternal void, existence.... The Lord of Corruption, custodian of perfection, gazed upon the ‘World Sphere’ and all of the creations of his inferior siblings. It was a pathetic sight indeed. The mortals scurried about the surface aimlessly, for meaningless causes, in pursuit of meaningless goals, to please worthless gods. It lacked perfection.. The longer Orix viewed the world sphere, the more disgusted he became. Perhaps his siblings had not failed entirely.. Beyond the reach of the sphere, the crystalline moon hung. Inhabited by various creatures, Orix enjoyed them immensely, but they would not do... He ripped through the spheres crust, into the vast caverns and underpaths buried beneath it, in search of a being that would fit his needs. Could it be true that they had all failed, is perfection or even a glimpse of it so hard to obtain? Then, a certain breed caught his attention. These Khepri, they were not perfect, but they were close. His attention garnered, Orix more closely examined these peculiar creatures. He walked throughout the hive’s tunnels, a mass, unrecognizable, sifting through the dirt and shadows. At random, the curious god would emerge, devouring a worker drone in a mass of tentacles, before returning to the shadows. Scattered among the many sections of the underpaths, they fought and squabbled, just like their contemporaries on the surface. At this the god seethed, none were spared from this instance imperfection! It could not be possible but somehow it was! This would not do. This was an injustice that must be corrected. The creations of his siblings would be made perfect.. His being buried deep into the surface until it came upon what he searched for. A Khepri queen in her second stage with a larger than average hive and several smaller queens under her yoke, not immortal, she would not be succumbing to the desires of Skatal any time soon, nor would she have the reserves to fool hardily embark on a quest to achieve the third Khepri stage. Not too strong, but not weak. A perfect candidate... With a plan formulating, the God of corruption began to work. Deep within the underpaths, he melded together a single creature, a new creature. One that would hopefully impart his will onto the world sphere, most effectively. After hours of work, it was finished, just how Orix had intended. A flash of light, and the tiny insects within his presence sprung to life. At this Orix was overjoyed! A being of perfection on the world sphere! Now, it was time to act! Quickly the first group was released into the nearby Khepri hive, and Orix would later create several other small pockets throughout the world. ------ The Orz’Karix The Orz’Karix is a large, magical, parasitic millipede. They are native to the underpaths where they can travel largely invisible, but are also found in heavily forested areas where moss can be found to grow on their dorsal region, offering a layer of camouflage. Orz’Karix are largely indistinguishable from regular millipedes, being only slightly larger on average (10-18in), with the biggest of their kind becoming as large as 30 inches in length, though is extremely rare. Orz’Karix are by no means stupid insects, their ‘brains’ are abnormally complex and their intelligence could be comparable to a crow or raven. In terms of combat, Orz’Karix are relatively formidable. They are as fast as millipedes come and have a pair of very powerful mandibles which secrete a fast acting paralytic venom, the venom alone is powerful enough to paralyze a Nyren or other larger creatures for hours on end. This allows the creature to neutralize their foe quickly before either devouring it, or using it as a host. Despite this, its armor is particularly lackluster. Because of this, Orz’Karix resort to ambushes or surprise attacks in order to catch their victims and quickly paralyze them. In terms of reproduction, Orz Karix reproduce faster than many, and slower than others through the regular way. Hosts can occasionally be used to create large breeding pods where thousands of eggs are stored and released at once. Though such a glorious creature already, there is far more to the Orz’Karix, namely their (magical) parasitic capabilities. Upon paralyzing larger animals, Nyren, or Khepri, Orz’Karix enter their parasitic stage. They burrow into the paralyzed creature, releasing magical fluids from their body which essentially ‘corrupts’ the organism. The insect takes full control of the organisms brain, essentially hijacking the being. From here, the hosts’ body can be used for a number of purposes. Though normally, the being’s body is ‘rewired’ large growths and mutations begin to form on its body, which secrete the same magical fluid, and the body begins producing specific proteins or nutrients for rapid growth. From this point, the host is directed to attack other organisms, or do whatever the controlling Orz’Karix sees fit. Should a host attack another being, it is easily possible for them to infect their foe with the fluid and spread the Orz’Karix’s control over more and more organisms. Once an organism is infected, the controlling Orz’Karix gains a small portion of the infected brain’s power, though no where near on par with how it originally was. This increases as more organisms are infected, and theoretically an Orz’Karix could become as intelligent as or smarter than a Nyren or other sentient being should it acquire enough biomass. If a single Orz’Karix has managed to infect more than 1 host, its control is exerted onto the other infected through the same means as a Khepri Queen would control her drones. A single Orz’Karix 6 AP- Create Animal: The Orz’Karix are created and distributed in small pockets within the underpaths as well as the forests within Adamant. 2 AP- Orix conserves his divine power, for use on a later date. 0 AP- Create Avatar: The Lord of Corruption condenses additional power, granted from the Overgod Ao himself! 4. Forum Name: Krefarus Skype Name: Ew God Name: Orix, Lord of Corruption Appearance: Orix rarely appears to mortals, though when he does, he takes varying shapes. When he appears physically, it is in the form of a mass of indescribable flesh, other creatures, and tentacles all seemingly fused together. Though most of the time, Orix himself simply overwhelms a particular mortal’s mind, and directly speaks into its mind. Agenda: The Lord of Corruption seeks not to create, but rather alter and change the creations of other gods until the universe they inhabit is ‘perfect’ in his eyes. Description: Orix is a being focused on perfection. He views the World Sphere, and everything else created by the other gods as imperfect. He seeks to perfect these creations, and make them his own. For him, there is no greater existence than one bound under the single unity of himself and what he has deemed ‘Perfect’ Sample Creation: The Heart of Orix A physical manifestation of Orix’s divine will, the Heart takes the shape of a perfect, unmarked, and glassy black sphere the size of a large head. When gazed into, one would see nothing but a swirling, endless void of black. The Heart itself, when left sedentary, slowly expands its influence. Lifeforms nearby grow unnatural and parasitic growths that overcome them with the will of Orix. For sentient beings, this process is slower, and can take weeks to manifest. However for regular creatures, it can happen in a matter of hours.
  5. Holy Kingdom of Elea 1528 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- The evening sun had just begun to set, its massive figure dipping slightly into the horizon. Its golden-red beams of light split through the mountains in the distance and glazed across the grasses of central Naros and over the several tents that dotted the Elean camp. Recently set, the activity within the camp had just begun to die down. The Leytouched had mostly retired early apart from the two men and Ser Edrich tending to the fire and keeping watch, running a whetstone over their blades as they talked quietly. Aleuas was in his tent, no doubt pouring over some dusty tome or praying. Since they had entered the lands of Volarucio, the party had taken a slight sigh of relief, It was nice to be in the lands of the faithful, despite their peculiar and borderline heretical ways of practicing the faith. A feeling of calm and peacefulness hung over the camp, one Koros hadn’t experienced since before he left Delos. However calm was the last thing that Koros felt at this moment. His heart beat rhythmically in his chest as he stared for a moment at his now instructor, Priam. The young man, probably no more than ten years older than himself, stood across a small clearing, it’s grass hastily stamped out into a small yard. The two had been sparing back and forth for hours, resulting in many welts and bruises across Koros’ person. He tried not to focus on them as Priam began to close in once more, his blade in two hands. Koros’ heart beat even harder as he stepped forward to meet him. In an instant the two blades met, a strike, parry, and another strike. Priam batted away Koros’ sword like straw before a hurricane and littered him with several strikes. Koros only remained on his feet, desperately backpedaling because of how used to the crack of Priam’s blade he had become. However, the short duel was almost over, Koros was nearly spent as Priam slipped through his parry once more and swung to land a final blow. Panic filled his mind, from nowhere, like instinct he thrust his hand outward, And just like that, a minor shield appeared in the blades’ path. It bounced off it harmlessly while Koros delivered a blow from his own blade into the surprised Priam. As soon as he connected, the shield vanished and Koros withdrew. He tossed his sword onto the dirt and sat back on the ground, exhausted. He had finally won, at least partially. The satisfaction of finally landing a hit on his instructor had only begun to fade when Priam rose from the grass. “Your skills are coming along well, I can’t say I’ve seen one of our adepts use a shield quiet like that before. Well done. Thought I believe that's all for today, we will continue tomorrow.” Priam says, a small nod given to the boy as he pulled his own blade from the grass, wiping off the blade before heading back towards the camp. The jubilant, though exhausted Koros responded with a nod and smile. He laid back into the dirt, staring up into the fiery red dusk sky. The scene was calm, and quiet, apart from an occasional gust of wind, or the evening chirping of birds and crickets. The longer Koros stared into the sky, the quicker he forgot how long he’d been there. Gradually, the firey red sunset had dipped under the horizon. Replaced with a deep, dark sky. As he peered into the infinite cosmos, his mind began to shift towards prayer, as it had every night. He recited the words in his mind, though they meant little. His mind sharpened, focused on the one goal he had still yet to achieve. And though try as he might, it still eluded his grasp.. ----------------------=0=---------------------- Thousands upon thousands of miles away, back in the Royal Capital, in the heart of the Kingdom, festivities raged. The King was getting married! And he would have no less than a Royal Marriage. The city of Pelos was far fuller than it had been before. Thousands of nobles, and citizens alike had come from across the Kingdom to partake in the festivities. Drums beat, trumpets blared and banners snapped in the midday breeze. The wide avenues of expertly cut white stone are filled to the brim with onlookers, and soldiers alike. From the Palace district, the procession begins. Led by the King himself along with his bride in an extravagantly decorated chariot, pulled by a team of 6 white horses. Followed by the nobles and other guests invited to the actual wedding, it would proceed through much of the city and up the hill where the Great Temple was under construction. Here, the rest of the city is barred from entrance. Within its chambers, the ceremony actually takes place, and a feast is held for the privately invited guests. Outside the walls of the Temple. The peasants and common folk are not forgotten about. Entertainers and exotic sites from across the world are gathered in the several large squares, where huge festivities, games, and feasts are held for all to enjoy. As the ceremony and festivities for the nobles conclude, the great procession emerges once again from the hilltop chambers, now led by the King and Queen of Elea. The procession travels its same victory lap, touring much of the city before returning to the palace district. Nobles depart to their residences, guards and soldiers return to their posts, and the newly wed are left to their section of the palace. ----------------------=0=---------------------- Actions & Spending Available Currency: 134,000 Financial Actions: -The Kingdom orders the construction of even more manufactories to keep the economy growing and the war effort fueled! 7. World Events For most of the year, Crusading armies have been gathering and preparing. A large amount of manpower and material hailing from the Empire. Towards the late summer, the preparations are finished. Participants are made aware, Venetian ships will transport the crusaders to either Cyprus or Egypt, from there they will advance into Judea. (discord for all involved) King Orodes III denounces the, in his eyes, unjustified act of aggression from the Catholic world. Rumours of Persian armies and flowing into the Holy land in order to support the Jews spread like wildfire. The Andalusians finally achieve a victory in the field against the Portugese Imperial forces. Though it was not a decisive victory, they have begun to advance into the province itself. Kingdom of Denmark A great victory won at the Battle of Copenhagen. Once more the ancient Danish capital is in Danish hands. But the Norwegians have escaped mostly intact, and show no signs of folding to the coalition any time soon.. Clan O’Neill A great battle about to unfold. The O’ Neill’s situation is grim, but not hopeless. The future of the Emerald Isle and of Clan O’ Neill itself hang in the balance. Imperial State of Egypt The Egyptian armies have returned home safely from Greece, only to be thrust into yet another conflict. However this is a far more righteous one! In other news, the Libyans seem somewhat disgruntled at the fact the Egyptians believe they can simply strong arm them into the crusade. Though nothing comes of it this year, perhaps it is a sign of things to come? Kingdom of Epirus Another year of war, another year the Macedonians have not advanced into Epirus itself. Some of the troops begin to wonder if Epirus is even at war! The Holy & Righteous Kingdom of Leon The papal decree is not required. The Imperials issue a statement shortly after the call to the Crusade that any who wish to participate will be given safe passage and transportation. More bricks are laid, yet there is still more construction to be done… The war council awaits.. (Discord!!!!!!) Kingdom of Byzantium Word arrives towards the end of the year. Marcus has won a great victory at the siege of Pergamon. Though it was a rather tedious and bloody endeavor, after several failed assaults, and months of waiting around the Ionians finally caved. The country is won, and Byzantine rule has begun to take hold, supported by Marcus’ army. The themes that aren't dead go home
  8. Holy Kingdom of Elea 1527 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- The Exervinitis, A recently commissioned caravel, rocked hard as it sailed across the Expanse. Every wave sent the ship rocking to the left and then to the right. The crew was largely silent as they went about their tasks. The Eleans were not a sailing people, but this was an exception, a necessity for a great pilgrimage, a great hunt for knowledge. The cool ocean air filled Koros’ lungs as he stood at the bow, gazing into the massive ocean ahead of him. He wondered what creatures or unknown monsters lurked within its depths, how big they were, what they looked like, or even if they were under the vessel right now, waiting, watching... He quickly pushed the unsettling thoughts aside. The waters were relatively calm today anyways, and the skies quiet, albeit full of large ominous clouds. Koros had rarely sailed, only once before, actually, and that was on the way to the Royal Capital only last year. Since then, much had changed. His tutoring with Aleuas has been proceeding well, already he had surpassed many of the older students. He had virtually mastered casting bolts of magic or minor shields on command, though his counterspells still needed work. His first trials had resulted in the council naming him an official adept. The mere thought of the moment filled him with excitement. The High Archon told him many times how gifted he was in the field, and that he showed great potential, he hoped such comments were true. Hopefully news of his achievement would find its way back to his family. He had written to them many times, but received no response. He wasn't right to expect one, travel across the seas was dangerous with the war, and he was about to leave on a great pilgrimage. Still, their lack of letters, from his mother especially was concerning to say the least. As much as he seemed to like to worry about his family, he could not resist the allure of the present religious mysteries and his studies. A sense of curiosity washed over Koros as he dwelt on them, and especially recent news. Rumors had filtered in from Numeria and Central Naros. They talked about a purple sky, an eternal sunset. Surely, this must be a sign from the Ancient One. Aleuas had told him it was when first told him about it, and he believed the same thing. In fact the news was one of the sole reasons for the journey. The Ancient One had been stirred, or was sending out a sign, a call to the faithful. They would answer. However, before they could proceed, a visit to the Chapel was mandated. The Eleans had scantily communicated with other practitioners of the faith, it was a great opportunity to share knowledge. Additionally, a certain theory of Aleaus’ was to hopefully be validated there. Above him, the clouds rumbled and a bolt of lightning split the heavens in two. From the sky, droplets of rain began to fall on the deck of the Exervinitis, covering it in a thin and reflective layer of water. Clearly, it was time to find somewhere not exposed to the elements. Koros turned on his feet and began to walk across the deck towards the stern. The sword at his hip, and his breastplate clanked with each step. The weapon and armor were a gift from Ser Edrich, something about repaying a favor to his father. The armor itself was beautiful, inlaid with patterns and religious symbols; it must’ve cost the knight a lot. He didn’t understand why he needed it, nor did he know how to use the sword properly. Aleuas told him they would be traveling through dangerous, wild, and foreign lands, so it was good to come prepared for the worst. One of their guards, a Leytouched by the name of Priam had offered to teach him how to fight, but since the journey began he hadn’t had the proper time for it. Koros hoped the man would have more time once they began their journey on foot. Just before the boy reached the vessels’ cabin, a horn blasts from the crow’s nest. The man calls down to the rest of the crew who were, himself included, looking up at the man with a confused look. “Land Ahead!” At those words the crew let out a collective sigh of relief. Eadni pirates posed a constant threat, and every man on the ship would much rather be on far more solid, less swaying ground. But still, the rain continued to fall, and even pick up, inside was still better than the deck. Koros reached the vessels’ cabin. Inside Aleaus poured over one of his numerous scrolls, upon his entry, the man sets down the manuscript, turning to him. “I hope I did not interrupt you, Archon” He says, closing the door behind him. “Of course not Koros, I was simply reviewing some of my predecessors’ findings.” The Archon says as he looks back to the document, his eyes leaping across its contents. “We will soon be making landfall, the man in the crows nest just spotted it” he walked to the rear of the cabin, gazing out the window. In the distance, another bolt of lighting pierced the sky as the rain pattered against the glass. “Good news then, though the next leg of our journey will not be nearly as short as our first.” The Archon set down his document and looked to Koros. “How have your abilities progressed? I assume you’ve been reciting the prayers I’ve taught you.” “I’ve told you Archon, I’ve been trying. I reach out to the Ancient One’s power, I focus, I try to touch it, but it simply isn't there” Koros replies, the frustration growing in his voice. For weeks he’s been attempting to feel the power that Aleuas had often talked about, to no avail. “It is there, Koros. Clear your mind, focus on the goal, the Ancient One’s energy, his power. Then, only then will you feel it.” Thunder rolled in the distance, so loudly the ship seemed to vibrate, it mirrored Koros’ frustration with Aleaus and his unproductive instructions, his frustration with the Ancient One and his unreactive slumber, and most of all the frustration with his inability to perform a task that seemed so easy. Without another word, Koros left the cabin, slamming the door rather loudly. He stormed across the deck, back to his original spot at the bow of the ship. Though he liked the quiet atmosphere the rain produced, he wasn’t interested in being soaked. Koros muttered a few brief words, and like that, the rain stopped, at least for him. A small, purple-blue translucent shield hovered above him, the rain glancing and running off of it. He returned to his frustration. Then a thought occurred to him, Perhaps he was being tested or challenged by the Great Titan. The more he dwelt on this idea, the more he liked the sound of it. Then, in that moment, he convinced himself of it. Surely, the Ancient One had a plan in mind, one he was apart of. Why else would it be so difficult for him to touch this latent, thrumming power that everyone could so easily reach out to? He would meet overcome this test or challenge, whichever it was, he would prove himself, he would pray harder. ----------------------=0=---------------------- Actions & Spending Available Funds: 139,450 Denarii Financial Actions: -Despite the raging war, the Industries of Elea stop for nothing! 10. World Events Across the Catholic world, a single message resonates. The Holy Land must be liberated. Nobility and peasantry alike from across Iberia, North Africa, The Empire, Britain, and beyond heed the Pope’s call. Personal armies and levies assemble, ships are built. Rumors spread that the Emperor himself will join in the crusade. a righteous crusade to reclaim the Holy Land is on the horizon. In the Iberian Empire, a great battle is fought between the invading Imperials and the Iberians. It rages throughout the entirety of the day. When the horrible fighting, bleeding, and dying finally ends, both armies have been completely obliterated. The Iberians win the field, but they are forced to fall back deeper into the country. Upon hearing of the call to liberate the Holy Lands. Orodes III is said to have completely abandoned his continuation of the Anatolian campaign. His army has returned south to Ctesiphon, messengers have left the capital in droves. The Andaluasian theatre is quiet this year. Few Imperial raids have pierced the every watchful Iberians. It is said the lack of Imperial supplies, reinforcements, and attention has begun to take its toll on the isolated province. Despite this, the governor stays ever stalwart in his loyalty and determination to crush the rebels. The Kingdom of Mercia More men flock to the Mercian Banners. The nation itself flourishes as more towns, villages, and markets spring up across the countryside. Indeed, Tamsworth is growing to be a local hub for trade and commerce within the British Isles. Many of the lords and peasants alike approve of the King’s sizeable donation to the church. Letters recognizing this action and offering approval come from many Imperial & Anglo regions alike Kingdom of Epirus Once more the Macedonians marched on Dodona. This time, the Epirote armies stood ready to defend their homeland. Supplies are gathered from across the Kingdom to prepare for sieges, and local lords and commanders are briefed. The Epirotes would once more fight for the survival of their nation Kingdom of Byzantium A great victory won over the Ionians, though many frown upon the Byzantines for so easily going back on their promises. No news from the Ionian King, only that the capital has been prepared for a siege, and as many men as the treasury allowed for were raised. Clan O’Neil Siege has been laid to the capital of clan Thomond, and though no major actions have been made on behalf of either side, they show no signs of surrendering any time soon. In better or worse news, the second Thomond contingent had been discovered marching to relieve the capital. It seems the decisive confrontation the King had desired would soon be upon him. S.P.Q.R A great victory had been won, but at what cost? Many littered the field of battle on both sides. Nonetheless, the Legions of Rome now lay siege to the capital of Tarentum. The war would either continue, or be won there. The Most Holy & Righteous Kingdom of Leon The construction of El Monasterio de la Pasión de Cristo continues. Progress is a mere crawl. But, slowly and surely construction continues, and every day the Fortress Monastery takes more and more shape. This year, both parties accept the offer to hold a war council. However, The Iberians demand it be held within their capital at Madrid. Despotate of Tarentum Late in the year, the capital is laid siege to by the Roman invaders. Though not all hope is lost. The army is still full of fighting spirit, and still intact. Alexandros’ advisors say at least 2 years worth of provisions have been gathered in the city. For now the port is not blocked by the Romans, so more could be funneled in. Perhaps they should seek aid from across the sea? His Holiness Missionaries arrive in the lands of Crimea by early summer. Their work is not exactly hindered by the Khagnate, but they aren't well received either. The people who inhabit these lands practice a strange and seemingly backwards religion, though some are converted nonetheless. There is still much work to be done! DEUS VULT! (see world events) THE SCOURGE OF GOD The riders depart south for the lands of Epirus. However, they experience a series of delays and only enter Macedon by late in the year. No pillaging this year. Despite this, they have stumbled into what could turn into a very lucrative ordeal. (discord) The Kingdom of Judea An envoy arrives, from Persia... (Discord)

  12. Holy Kingdom of Elea 1526 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- Koros missed the grounds of his family’s estate. The rough stone walls that had just begun to show signs of wear, the simple furniture, the rolling hills of Averos, the view out into The Expanse where the stars shone differently, where great whales occasionally burst from the sea, showering nearby fishermen or merchants in a cloud of water. Surprisingly, he missed the portraits of his lineage that hung on the walls. They were all the same, some depiction of a lord from millennia ago constantly bearing down on him with stony, disapproving faces. Koros had always hated those paintings, and had implored his father, the ever rigid Lord of Delos, to remove them several times, always to be met with the same stalwart response as he performed one task or another, “You will not hide nor forget our past, for It decides where you are going.Your duty, Koros, do not forget” But still, now that he was so far from home, he missed them. More than the estate, he missed his mother and his brother. Without them, the days seemed so long, and so much more uneventful. However, this was not to say he did not enjoy every aspect of the Royal Capital. As much as Koros missed his home, he enjoyed the sights and the experiences of Pelos. The capital was truly a sight to behold. Huge temples, villas, and buildings sprung from the smooth, perfectly cut and polished roads hewn from white stone. Massive arches and domes inlaid with gold and silver, marvelous feats of construction adorned the cityscape. The markets were full of exotic beasts and goods that he had never even dreamed of. Dyes of every color and hue, huge felines with stripes as black as night, and even large gray behemoths with long trunks and tusks as long as his arm. But most of all, Koros the awed the great fortress temple that had began to take shape atop a large hill overlooking the city. Its great white body dominated the city, the reflections from the silver or gold that covered the pillars, statues, or other sections of the buildings flashed in the Elean sun, temporarily blinding anyone who was transfixed by its majesty for too long. The High Archon had told him numerous times that the initial section would soon be complete, and that they could be relocated. He longed for the day. Many times, Koros would simply find himself imagining the view from such a commanding location. It must be breathtaking. While Koros waited for the High Archon to finish whatever business he was doing, his mind once more drifted back to his family. A part of him wished he was still in Delos with them. He wished that his father never pressed him into this boring apprenticeship, no matter how prestigious it was. He wondered if they were safe, surely if something had happened, news would’ve reached him, Right? The war had been raging for almost two years, and though his father told him little of the front, he had heard while in the Capital that the Eadni had raided the Elean coastlines several times now. Despite his worries, he was also very, very excited. His family in general did not care much for the worship of the Ancient One, apart from him of course. Studying under a mind like Aleuas was all that he could ask for and more. But, it hadn’t been as interesting as he thought it would be. For most of the few days in the capital, he had simply been running errands with the High Archon, when he asked about them the man, as kind as he was would simply tell him to have patience. What could the High Archon possibly be doing that his apprentice couldn't know about? Koros simply wondered as he turned a small, smooth stone over and over again in his hand. However, his thoughts were cut short. The door across the courtyard opened and the murmur of conversation could be heard. No doubt Aleuas had finally emerged from whatever he needed to attend to this time. Koros tucked the stone he had been turning over in his hand for the last hour into his pocket. He looked over his shoulder to see the High Archon Aleaus just now passing the courtyard fountain, next to him was a gruff, but younger looking man; he wore the standard Purple-Blue-White attire of the Royal Army, and a stout breastplate was strapped across his chest. An elaborate sword hung from the man's waist. As the two men grew closer he could overhear bits and pieces of the conversation. “Yes of course..” “And the supplies?” “I’ve already had funds allocated for next year. Everything has been arranged.” By the time the pair had come any closer, and Koros has risen from his spot on the ledge, there was nothing more to be heard. The strange man gave a quick bow to the High Archon before adjusting the deep purple sash around his waist, and setting off to some other part of the grounds. “Thank you for waiting, Koros. I know your stay hasn’t been particularly eventful. But the last of the preparations are finished. Tomorrow, your apprenticeship will begin in full.” Aleuas spoke in his same, calm and friendly voice as he approached Koros. As the two walked, Koros, filled with excitement at the news he had just heard asks the same question he asked the Archon after every meeting. “Preparations for what, Archon?” To his surprise, the man clears his throat and begins to answer. “A ship is being constructed. A ship that will take us north, to the Fortress Libraries, to Hardshore specifically. From there, a long journey across Naros to the Chapel of Knauledge.” the Archon folded his hands as he walked through the Pelosi streets “And why are we going all the way there?” The ever curious Koros probed, hoping the Archon would spill more information. “Because, Koros. The Kingdom of Elea, as beautiful as it is, holds no relics of the past, no records that might indicate to the path we must take to stir the Sleeping God. As far as I know, the Chapel, a derelict order of Ancient One worshippers does. I have also heard rumors, rumors of a sky hazed in purple. Such things require investigation, for all we know, they may be signs. As my faithful apprentice, I assumed you would be joining me?” Without a second thought, the boy answered “Of course, Archon, why would I not?” With that, silence fell over Koros as he listened to the Archon. Aleuas went on and on about the various reasons for the journey, and Koros listened, every word committed to memory. In the days following, his tutoring would begin in full. All in preparation for the journey west. ----------------------=0=---------------------- Actions & Spending Available Funds: 150,500 Royal Denarii Financial Actions: -Elean Smiths and Craftsmen continue to toil in their shops, They are given more space. 15. Antigonid Dynasty 1525 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- “Indeed, The Ancient One is truly a cryptic being, Your Grace..” “What else could the surge of power I, We all experienced on that night last year have meant? If not sail north, to seek the source of this light?” “Your guess is as good as mine, your Grace. All that matters to me is that we will not have to bury ourselves in furs much longer. As much as I hate the tropical heat, it would be welcomed with open arms at present.” “Still, I question the nature of the Ancient One. Perhaps, he is not as forthcoming as Aleuas believes. Perhaps, the texts which detail his sentience is a mere explanation for the inexplicable. Yes, I believe I have uncovered the purpose of our Voyage, the revelation we were destined to make, Alcides. The eye of the Great Titan is not as vigilant as those of his creations. His is far more… ancient, more, dormant, unfocused, primordial. The Ancient One is not the Great overseer that Aleuas believes, instead, he is the latent power of the universe, the source of all magic and divinity. But still, a proper answer only raises many more questions. If the Ancient One is purely dormant, essence of our universe, what could we possibly conjure to stir him? What is our purpose if our efforts to stir our god is pointless, Alcides?” “Save it for the High Priest, Your Grace. You are weary from our journey from Ulya. The ship will sail fine without you. Rest, recollect your thoughts, and inform the council upon your arrival. There will be much to be done when we return. No doubt, the drums of war already beat across our homeland as Lord Aristaeus leads the legions west.” “Your council is wise beyond your years” The King remarks with a small laugh as he takes his captain’s advice and steps away from the deck to his own quarters. As he walks across the wooden deck, he looks to the stars, the celestial bodies shone so brightly.. Perhaps, his answers hung above his very head... ------------------------=0=------------------------ Heavy clouds hung in the sky, so large as if they were about to burst. A thick fog blanketed the Mongerellian countryside, and the city of Koribalis, the provincial capital. The distinctive clank of the heavy armor echoed across the abandoned countryside streets as they grew nearer and nearer to their destination. The scene was illuminated by only the strongest of the Moon’s rays and the light of the lantern in Priam’s hand. As he strode down the Mongerellian road, two more men at his side, a few dozen or so more behind him, the thought of what was about to happen clawed at the back of his mind; What if the insurgents were expecting them, what if they were walking into their hand.. He pushed the thoughts away, the terrified Mongerellian peasant had said enough after they started removing fingers. The Mongerellians knew what they were doing when they chose to organize their pathetic resistance.. Now they would be crushed under the Great Titan’s banner. The company of some fifty men now stood only several tens of meters from the estate when Priam raises his hand halting them all. “The Insurgents are to be butchered, no quarter given. Lord Leontius wants the leadership taken alive, so they may be publicly executed. I expect this to be quick, I would very much like to make it to my wife tonight.” With that, subtle nods and murmur escape the Leytouched as they slowly fan out, just another day’s work... The main contingent, ten men including Priam himself approach the gate where several mongerellian soldiers stood watch, talking among themselves. One of them, a short man with an unkempt face steps forward, the moonlight reflecting off his billhook. “What business do Antigonid men have with the Lord Vormak at this hour?” As Priam produces a scroll and begins to unfurl it, his retinue begins to draw their blades. This garners the attention of the rest of the guards who slowly come too. “Lord Vormak has refused the Lord-Governor’s summons to the Royal Capital, and his levies have been found organizing with mongerellian resistance organizations. By order of the King, Lord Vormak is to be brought to the Royal Capital, alive or dead. Step aside and no harm will come to your men, Mongerellian.” A moment of hesitation and alarm washes over the captains face as his eyes widen and he scrambles for the horn strapped around his person. However, he doesn't get far. One of the Leytouched steps forward, expertly cutting the man across the chest and sending him tumbling towards the dirt. All around Priam, half asleep Mongerellian guards are quickly cut to pieces, left dying on the ground... “Sound the horn, get this door open, I want the Lord alive.” Priam commands as he withdraws his own blade and sinks it into the back of the dying captain, who was now struggling in the dirt. The horn blasts from a man to his right, a few seconds pass and several more blare out from the rest of the estate. Then, the stout wooden gates begin to open, heaved aside by Priam’s men. Over the course of the next hours, the Leytouched, supplemented by Latesian Infantrymen stormed the Vormak estate from all sides. Fierce resistance offered by the household guard was quickly brushed aside, and the halls were stained red with blood. The treasonous Lord along with his conspirators were detained, the treachery snuffed out in its cradle as soon as it had begun. ----------------------=0=---------------------- To the Eadni, It saddens me to bring such an event to your attention, however my King and God will it so. Within the nominally peaceful province of Voreia Mongerellia, disturbances and unrest have inexplicably began to pick up once more. Upon further investigation, and the interrogation of Lord Vormak and his conspirators, It has been revealed that such actions have been propped up by funding from what we believe to be your own state. 16. World Events After a surprising defeat during the approach to Leon, the Duke Sigismund Arudin is surprisingly left with his head, and his command. Rumours have begun to filter that the remains of his forces are being supplemented with a second, full legion. In Andalusia, the Imperials win yet another victory later in the year. After hearing about the Battle outside of Leon, the Governor orders every captured rebel to crucified upside down, and left to rot in the Mediterranean sun on the Leonese border. Across the Adriatic coast, death and dying is plentiful. Word of the ferocity inflicted by Avar horsemen spreads far and fast, many call them the Scourge of God King Orodes III of Persia embarks on a campaign to the north. The Most Holy & Righteous Kingdom of Leon The major victory over Duke Sigismund’s force on the approaches to Leon resonates throughout the Peninsula. Envoys congratulating Lord Teodoro on his clever strategy arrive from both Iberia and Andaluasia. The request to hold a council is denied by the Iberians. Though, it is accepted by the Andaluasians, who suffered a crushing defeat in the south against an Imperial army. The offer to arrange a marriage apparently peaks an interest with the King of Andalusia, who states he is open to discuss it further. After many weeks, a response from Duke Baudry of Aragon arrives. The Roman legions will drive back the Greeks, Barbarians, and Venetians as they had defeated the Franks decades earlier! Both Venice and Syracuse, always eager to make some extra coin, accept the trade agreement. Epirus Construction across the kingdom goes well, and many are optimistic about the reign of the young King Phyrrus VI. Despite the size of his realm, and the potential enemies which surround him on all sides, Epirotes are a tough people who will not so easily accept foreign reign. Where could they be preparing to march? Clan O’Neill Aodh Mor O'Neill’s claim to High King of Ireland is met with thousands oaths of fealty, and many more praises. Still, he is not yet king of the Whole Island. To the west, the Thomonds muster as they always do, and to the south, the Imperials cling to the city of Cork. The last bastion of Imperial rule remains, untouched. Kingdom of Denmark The offer of trade agreements are accepted across the board. An Envoy returns from Sweden (Discord) The scouting of Norwegian Sjaelland and the Lowcountries can only go so well as scouts are unable to penetrate too deeply into Norwegian territory. However, it seems the Norwegian King is rallying just like the Danish one.A larger part of his forces seemed to have gathered in Sjaelland, and only an auxiliary detachment in the Lowcountries. Scourge of God The Crimeans, Scirii, Saxons, & Vandals all accept the offer of trade. The Khaganate rides once more, in search of loot and plunder, and they find it in abundance. The wealthy, and largely unguarded coastal regions of Venice make for easy pickings for the Khagan’s riders. For several months they rape, pillage, and slave their way across the coast before the Venetians come forward with an offer. Though, the envoy is clearly in visible pain as he discusses giving away money to some animal skin wearing ooga boogas. (+30,000 Gold from raids), (Offer of 5,000 yearly from Venice) Kingdom of Byzantium Construction proceeds without issue. Besides that, nothing much of note transpires within the Kingdom of the Byzantines. The newly recruited men cause some minor unrest within the existing military units. They haven't even been trained properly!
  17. Shadow of the Empire The Year 700 AD Across most of the known world, there is peace. At least officially... -------------------------=0=------------------------- Events In the far east, King Orodes III of Persia hosts grand festivities within the Imperial capital at Ctesiphon. For months, attendees speak of the outrageous grandeur of the event. Allegedly, the now rallying Persian army was paraded through the streets, at least 10,000 strong and accompanied by as many as 40 elephants. The Frankish Empire inches ever closer to further civil war with the ascension of Charles III. In a controversial political move and an effort to raise more funds for the rebellion in Iberia, taxes on Frankish nobility sees a sharp spike. How such a move sits with the nobility has yet to be seen.. Barbarian incursions into the Frankish frontier continue as usual, by land and by sea. Many villages and monasteries in the northeast are razed. On the Emerald Isle, whispers of finally expelling the Franks can be heard. A Minor border fort in Andalusia is seized by Imperial forces isolated in Portugal. The fighting is extremely ferocious. After the fort surrendered, the Imperial Governor had every one of the newly captured prisoners flayed one by one in front of a nearby village populace. Tensions between the Empire and Syracuse reach an all time peak. Apparently the Imperial Governor felt that barring Syracusan merchants from the city in Tunisia was just retaliation for some minor offense. It can be said that the Despot of Syracuse, a man many have wisely decided not to cross, doesn't feel the same way.. -------------------------=0=------------------------- You may post your RP and Actions at your leisure, Modposts will be every Sunday/Monday. 18. Antigonid Dynasty 1524 ----------------------------------=0=---------------------------------- The small vessel rocked gently as the icy waves washed over its hull. Its Bow cut through the arctic water, brushing aside small icebergs, propelled by a chilling wind and the many oars from the lower deck. King Aegos stood up the deck, wrapped in layers of fur, gazing out into the misty waters ahead of him. Beside him, Alcides, the commander of his guard and one of the only men to set food in the land of Ulyadar stood. “The ice is beginning to clear, We’ll be making landfall soon, your grace.” Alcides points out as he readjusts the sword on his hip “Good, get the men ready. Have the boat stop. There must be prayer before we dock. The Great Titan continues to merely acknowledge my presence, I will not risk angering him..” The King says sharply as another sharp gust win tears across the deck. “At once, your Grace..” The man nods, turning to one of the other sailors on the deck, holding up his fist. After a quick nod, from the man, a horn sounds across the ship. The sail begins to close, and the oars fall silent. “I hope Voleus’ summons to this place are exactly that, It would be unfortunate for us to have sailed this far north for nothing. Especially while banners raise to the south. Oh, and have the brazier lit…” “Of course, your grace…” ---------------------=0=--------------------- The sun beat down harder than it had all week. Priam’s sword felt heavier than he could remember. All around him, the yard was filled with the sound of sparing men. From the walls, banners flying the Great Titan’s standard snapped in the wind. White pillars adorned in gold trim and religious symbols surrounded the courtyard on all sides, leading to the barracks, kitchens, as well as other facilities. The humid tropical air stuck to his skin like another layer of skin, and the heavy armor wasn’t helping. All Priam could do was think of how much he hated the local climate, he longed for the temperate plains and forests of elsewhere. He quickly wiped his face of sweat and moisture with his arm before raising his sword again as the man across from him raised his own, preparing to spar once more. “There’s no time to dwell on the heat in the thick of battle, Priam. It is as annoying to you as it is to every other man in this courtyard.. Don’t think about it and it’s almost like you’re in the cooler lands of our ancestors..” The man across from him instructed as he slowly moved towards Priam, his sword readied. “Yes, of course ser” Priam responded to the grizzled veteran as he blinked several times, clearing the sweat from his eyes. He tried to push the heat to the back of his mind and focus on what was about to ensue, but it was just unbearable. However, before he could dwell on it any longer, his instructor was upon him. The two swords clashed in a flurry of motion. Try as he might, he couldn’t break the old commander’s defense. His opponent’s sword seemed to be everywhere at once, to the point where it was almost spectacular that the old teacher could even move that fast. Priam’s awe turned to struggle as he was quickly forced onto the back foot. Within a matter of seconds, it was over… again. Several sharp cracks from the blade dented his training armor more than it already was, and sent him tumbling onto the dirt for the fifth time today. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me as of late, sir” Priam stated as he rose up from the dirt, propping himself up with his blade. Once on his feet, he let out several hearty coughs, removing the unintentionally inhaled dust from his tired lungs. “Let’s go again” he states with an exhausted voice, readying his sword. “You’ve had enough for now Priam. You must rest, and I’m tired. You think too much of the Archons’ judgement, and the battles to come.” The instructor stated calmly as he stuck his own training sword into the dirt and turned to the sheltered section of the yard. He climbed several steps and began to pour himself a large glass of water. He took a large drink before pouring a second glass and it extending to Priam as he followed the man. “And the heat, sir” Priam replied with a small laugh that the old man returned. “Yes, the heat too” the old man laughed as he took another sip. He looked around the yard, examining the other soldiers, before starting yet another lecture “It is a great honor to serve as part of the Ley Touched, Priam. You should take more pride in your position. Your deeds bring great honor to both yourself, and your family. You will carry the Great Titan’s banners into the thick of battle. You know, your training will soon be complete. Your unit has shaped up to be one of my finests..” “I have not forgotten that ser! The King honors me more than I deserve with this position. I intend to serve both his Grace and the Great Titan to the best of my abilities. Now, let’s go again!” Priam says eagerly as he drains the glass of water and returns to the ring, readying his sword again. The veteran grumbled and set down his beverage as he descended the steps back into the yard. “Are you sure Priam?” The man jokes as he pulls the blade from the dirt. “Of course” The young man smiles back, knowing full well that he was not ready to lose again, as he surely would... ---------------------=0=--------------------- “You’re sure this is even possible?” “Yes, Leontius, I’m fairly certain. The Galaharian made many mentions of the bolts. He commented on their particularly destructive nature many times.. I see no reason to doubt them. Why would he lie about a battle he lost anyways? Even if he did, the concept is promising..” “No doubt about that, I’ll agree there. However, Is it even possible? I wonder if Royal funds could be better spent elsewhere.” “Just launch some exploratory research, It’s not like the dynasty is tight on funds in recent years anyways..” Actions & Spending Gross Income + Treasury: 121,500 Net Income: 114,500 Financial Actions: -Dytikos is given full city status, as well as all the accompanying infrastructure. 19. Shadow of the Empire The Known World, Year 700 (zooming in may be required to view cities) ----------------------------------------------=0=---------------------------------------------- Music Brief Summary The last centuries have not been kind to the Imperial state. A once mighty and indomitable force that stretched from Mesopotamia to the northern shores of the Emerald Isle has been reduced far from its former glory. Decades of stagnation, mismanagement, invasion, corruption, and plague has taken its toll on the state. The first of the dominoes fell in Italy. In 642, an amalgamation of Italian senators, natives, and generals orchestrated one of the first Imperial civil wars. In a matter of years, Imperial armies were dealt crushing defeats, and forced to largely abandon the province. Following the withdrawal, the unified coalition splintered, leaving the peninsula divided. In the British Isles continuous pressure from both Highlanders and Seakings alike has slowly eroded Imperial authority. Weakening garrisons, destroying outposts, Imperial control of the region slowly slipped. By 653, British officials could no longer tolerate the stagnant Imperial rule, and cast off their rule. Egypt, by far the most profitable Imperial province was thrown into a state of confusion by mid 660. A terrible defeat inflicted by invading Persians opened the door into the entirety of Imperial north africa. Persian armies penetrated deep into Egypt, leaving a large trail of death and destruction in their wake. The regional capital at Alexandria was even sacked towards the end of campaign. Following the humiliating defeats in Egypt and Judea, Imperial forces were unable to stop the separation of the provinces of Libya and Judea. The most recent string of shortcomings to strike the Imperial realm have sprouted up in Iberia. Only four years ago, the rebellions in Iberia begun in full swing. Self proclaimed kingdoms and empires alike on the peninsula continue to wage war against Imperial forces, though no decisive confrontation has been made yet. Now, with the assassination of the old Emperor Louis X. His son, the ambitious Charles III ascends to the Imperial throne, vowing to reclaim the lost territories and restore Imperial prestige. The future of the Empire, and the Mediterranean world as a whole hangs in the balance.. ------------------------------=0=------------------------------ OOC The rules/mechanics can be found here [Click Me], Any questions can be brought up with me.
