I see what you're trying to achieve, but making activity checks public is not the way to go about it. Activity checks, really, are a staff side measurement to gauge what places need to be wiped, or which can be advanced to nation status. Personally, I think it should be frowned upon that community leaders post their activity cards to boast about numbers. We should have leaders focusing on the narrative, the story, and building their community rather than the number.

For new players, I agree, there should definitely be a method for those players to find active cities. I believe a plugin is in the works, as well as some other smaller ways to address active, peak times for each settlement/nations.

But, that's just my two cents.

Definitely agree with @WestCarolina. Activity checks should only really be used by a nation’s leadership to determine if they are moving in the “right” direction and avoiding any major drops in activity or to communicate with vassals about their activity. Publicly posting activity checks can create harmful interactions between player groups who see each other as competition.

The major focus should always be on creating engaging RP and crafting a story, not just having a ton of people around. Many of those “dead” settlements or lairs aren’t actually “dead”, they are just more niche communities that create RP that doesn’t require them to stay within the confines of their own settlement/lair or are only around at certain times. Some of these smaller settlements actually end up playing major roles in the stories of the server, so in actuality they are actually “dead”.

A much better way to help players find activity would be to have either a forum page or discord channel that basically says “X settlement’s peak hours are between A and B” so people can find a community that is online at the same time as them instead of exposing the nation or settlement’s actual activity percentage.

  2. While I agree with the opinions of others, that any form of freebuild that allows for large builds would not be beneficial, but instead harmful, I do think a minor form of freebuild could be very useful.

My suggestion would be a form of "freebuild" that allows players to build minor structures within areas of land that are uninhabited on the map. These builds can be kept to a certain size by restricting the area in which one can build via a plugin similar to claim plugins on SMP-style servers. I personally think the builds should be kept to a maximum of 1 chuck, if not smaller, allowing for people to create builds that give more depth to the server, such as religious and cultural shrines sprinkled throughout the world, while also making it impossible for people to develop large builds or settlements via freebuild. Whenever creating one of these minor builds, it can be required that a ticket be made to a certain group of staff(perhaps Story Build Team) for the build to later be reviewed as the staff team has time and either be approved, deleted due to low quality, or modified to fit build standards. This form of freebuild could also make it easier for communities to host player-led events in unoccupied areas of the map, by allowing for event hosts to make minor edits to terrain for event uses. The goal of the structures built via freebuild would not be for permanent roleplay of a small group, but instead, locations to help foster temporary or periodic roleplay for a larger community.

HER EXCELLENCY, Miss Odessa MacPherson, Lady Seneschal and Minister of Intelligence

THE RIGHT HONORABLE, Lord Edward Clement, Lord Chamberlain and Count of Aldersberg

THE RIGHT HONORABLE, Lady Anne Josephine, Lady Troubadour and Countess of Aldersberg

  4. “A weak man.” The Countess of Aldersberg remarked to herself as she read the letter on her weekly walk to the graveyard of New Providence. “I hope the Baron Cherskavy chokes to death, the man does not even deserve the honor of dying in battle.” Anne grumbled, as she placed flowers upon the tomb of her dear friend Joseph de Sarkozy “Do you not agree? He is a vile man…” She queried to the tomb, though she clearly expected no response.

  5. Anne of Sunholdt sat upon her favorite couch within her quarters, her feet tucked under her body as she read through the countless papers she must review. Despite it nearing midday, the Countess had yet to change from her silk sleeping gown, her hair plainly streaming down her back. Like clockwork, a young maid knocked on the door to Anne's room at exactly noon with a silver tray in hand, only a meal and an assortment of letters to the side. As the maid silently departed, Anne sat her readings to the side and moved over to the table where the tray had been left. The Countess read the letters whilst slowly eating her food.

    CLANG!

A fork fell to the floor, bits of potatoes scattering as the fork continued to softly rattle against the floor. Moments later a small letter floated down to rest alongside the fork. Anne waveringly lifted herself from her chair, hands shaking as her gaze panickily shifted across her quarters, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes. After staring around the room for what felt like hours, the weeping woman pulled herself through the room toward a far corner before falling to the ground.

Anne lay on the cold floor while tears puddled on the wood beneath her head for at least an hour before slowly drifting off to sleep. Snowflakes began to fall from a stary winter sky as the Countess dreamt of her past...

    A New Mother - Circa 1866

Penned by Anne of Sunholdt, The Countess of Aldersberg

The Comital Household of Novellen-Aldersberg is ecstatic to announce the birth of the Count and Countess of Aldersberg’s firstborn child and Aldersbergian heir. Alexander Leopold Novellen-Aldersberg (@Balthasar) was born during the rainy midday om the 7th of Horen's Calling, 1867. Having been born extremely underweight, the newborn lord is under the watchful eye of trained staff to ensure his stability. The Countess, having labored through the prior night and morning, is to rest extensively in hopes of a swift recovery from the difficult labor.

    Signed,

    The Right Honorable, Edward Clement

    Count of Aldersberg

The Right Honorable, Anne of Sunholdt

    Countess of Aldersberg

  7. Anne of Sunholdt sulked about her courtier apartment, her jewels from the debut still laying on the side of her bed. “No mention by my brother… No compliment from the Empress… No man to marry! I’ve done all this shit in my life! Helped others build their reputations and I have NOTHING to show for it except being told ‘I wear the pants in the family’!” Anne grumbled to herself as she paced back and forth in her apartment, letting out a wicked laugh periodically between her ramblings.

  8. Anne of Sunholdt let out a roaring laugh within one of the parlors of Aster Hall before throwing the Missive towards Joseph de Sarkozy's @sashimichoppedFace. "LOOK AT THIS!She blurted out between her loud chuckles, head swinging back and feet slamming against the floor in a nearly child-like mannerism. "Next Princess Amadea will be the Corpse Empress!" Her howling laughter continued as she moved across the room to curtsy before a portrait of the late Princess Amadea! "ALL HAIL EMPRESS AMADEA I OF OREN!"

  9. Anne of Sunholdt lay upon a plush sofa within her courtier apartment, flames leaping high within the fireplace at the end of the room, keeping the entire abode a toasty warm. Corners of paintings stuck out from the flames, illustrations of churches and religious monuments which had been tainted by the presence of the Daemon-Pontiff. "GOD bless the Emperor and Empress! Long may they Reign and defend us against dark foe which have slithered their way into the house of GOD. Let them stand strong against the Daemon in Pontifical Garb and his tainted followers!" The Lady Revels continued her speech to a set of paintings which hung above the fireplace before falling silent and watching the flames consume the last of the paintings, a grin forming on her lips....

  10. Anne of Sunholdt moved through the city of New Providence to scout the soon to be evicted houses, obviously avoiding the lower class streets. Upon reaching on of the many bulletin boards scattered about the city, Anne ripped off the letter pinned to the board before shaking her head side to side in companionship with faint clicks of the tongue. "Not fit at all... Not at all. I pray for her family's future." At that the d'Arkent tossed the missive to the side, the wind picking it up and sending it floating to the edge of the street.

Vineyards of Upper Petra - [Circa 1842]

As new times come with change, as all may know and have seen with the new leaders and government of the empire. With that comes much smaller changes, yet important to the foundations and essentials to the Orenian people themselves. Thus, HIM Empress Anastasya, Lady Revels Anne of Sunholdt, and the Aster Court wish to announce the wine tasting at Aster Hall to find the finest new wine to be supplied to be deemed as the official, primary wine at the palace. However, such wine will be promoted by Their Imperial Majesties as the Orenian wine of this new era.

Her Imperial Majesty and attendees shall taste test each wine presented and judge its quality. Those which the Empress deems to be of high quality will be stored within the cellar for future events. However, the family deemed to have the best wine shall also receive a contract with Aster Hall for providing wine for future events. Those who wish to present are asked to bring about 3 cases (32 bottles) of wine.

    SIGNED,

HER IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Anastasya of Kositz, Empress consort of the Holy Orenian Empire, Duchess Consort of Furnestock

HER LADYSHIP, Anne Josephine of Sunholdt, Lady Revels of the Aster Court

    DATE: Tuesday, January 4th

    TIME: 4pm EST

    PLACE: Aster Hall (imperial palace)

  12. Anne Josephine moved silently through the halls of Sunholdt, the girl’s nose and eyes holding shades of red from crying, but now she simply wore a frown. She looked along the walls where paintings of her family hung. Black cloth draped over the pictures of the former Duke. Despite the frustrations which the Lady held due to Peter’s dementia she couldn’t help but mourn for the man. “Aunt Maisie where are you going?” The youthful d’Arkent questioned as her elderly aunt moved for the door.

With Maisie now gone, all of the adults, the mentors, in Anne’s life had been ripped away from her. The lady of only 15 now stood abandoned within the walls of her home, her and her brother, just a year her senior, now left to care for a family on their own.
