  1. A Land I Knew Too Little By Bo Blackwell A land I knew too little A vast and diverse crowd I sat at home and whittled Instead of living proud Twas not until I was a man That I began to stray Far from home, did I now stand Excited, scared, and away Savoy, a city growing Robust and full of life E’ryone forced to get along Because of far-spread strife I run away now, soaked in rain From a home that I’ll ne’er again dwell If I’d never left home, I wouldn’t feel this pain For a land I knew far too well [!] Tears stain the bottom of this parchment
  2. Genocide of Mali’thill Written by Okarir’san, Usamea An’asul 22nd of The Sun’s Smile, Year 55 of the Second Age Hunted, hated, murdered. Monsters are spilling our blood. Dear Mali’thill, other residents of the most blessed Silver State and whomever this may be of concern, During my tenure as Okarir’san ito’Haelun’or I have seen missives, heard lies and witnessed lessers and Mali’ata sharing misinformation about our blessed bastion. I have come across enemies that wish to slaughter us and to decorate their necks with our ears. Brutal monsters spilling our blood around on whatever ground we walk on. We are hunted, persecuted for just existing. These vicious behemoths claim the realms would be better off without us, they claim we pour acid on everything we do not like. They claim us to be violent beings while having little to no idea what Maehr’sae Hiyulun’ehya truly means. We are not violent, we are not Mali that condone harming others. We are all but humble servants of the State, scholars dedicating their lives to studying and progressing oneself and the Motherland. It is impure to harm another sentient being out of hedonistic glee, one should always aim to resolve conflict with the use of one’s mind and verbal skills. One should rely on a sword only when one’s life is in danger or if someone is a threat to the well-being of one’s blessed body. It is true we are well known for our acid pits, however those are reserved purely to the most abhorrent such as murderers, beings siphoning the power of Iblees and those having non-consensual relations. We do not kill anyone for being impure, we just detest their presence and thus they are banished from our sovereign lands unless they are deemed salvageable; they are offered the chance to regain their purity, to be ‘thill once more. If one is beyond salvation, they may go seek life outside our lands, free from our laws. No one has been killed by a Mali’thill in over a century, however Mali’thill have been killed by lesser beings simply for breathing. Yet you dare to call us violent? Thus I implore beings of the realm to choose peace over violence, no more blood should be spilled over nonsense, over bickering that could be resolved over a healthy debate, a dialogue. If our enemies keep spilling our blood, let me ensure that shall be the last thing you will ever do. While we detest violence, we will always protect ourselves even with force if necessary. I implore all other Mali states to protect one another, while we are different, we are all Mali, children of Malin. The Silver State of Haelun’or shall always offer refuge to Mali who are persecuted by other races. The Silver State is open to those who wish to learn, who will respect our laws and culture. We should stand together against common enemies instead of remaining to ourselves. No more blood should be spilled, the world is but crimson coloured from all these wars. AY’LARIHEI AY’MAHERAL ELESIA ELERVATHAR MAEHR’SAE HIYLUN’EHYA Signed, Okarir’san Usamea An’asul

  4. 8.0 Economy Teaser Hello LotC’ers and welcome to a short teaser of the economy system planned for 8.0 The main part of the economy system is tied to tiles and what I like to call Tile Improvements. What is a Tile Improvement? Think mines, nodes, resources, ability to farm and raise animals. Each tile in the world will be regioned and given a specific primary and possibly secondary type. Primary types include plains, forests, and mountains. Secondary would be desert, underground, and coastal. These are just examples and more will be added as needed. Tile Improvements would be limited to certain types of tiles. You will also be limited to 1 type of each type of Tile Improvement per tile. Example, you cannot have 2 mines on a tile. Tile Improvements will eventually be able to be upgrade, more nodes to harvest etc, however that will be added later in 8.0 Tile Improvements include: Ranches Farms Mines Lumber Camp Clay Quarry Ground Quarry Sand Quarry Terracotta Quarry Prismarine Quarry Nether Quarry ‘More to be added in the future’ At the start of the map the Capital Tiles of all races will have 4 Tile Improvements allowed in their capital tile. This would be ranches, farms, a capital mine, and lumber camp. Capital tiles will be allowed to have up to 5 Tile Improvements. Other tiles will be limited to having 3 improvements. A Tile Improvement will cost a lump sum of mina to create and the World Team will then create their Tile Improvement using Nodes! Yes that's right, nodes are back. Each World Improvement will have a certain number of nodes that will be hand placed in the area selected by the tile owner after being purchased. Nodes will have a PER PLAYER cooldown. This means no more worry about one guy camping all the cooldowns of the nodes. Each player will be able to harvest the nodes. Tile Improvement Info (subject to change) Node Cooldown: 1-2 hour Why so long? The idea is for players to go harvest their resources and make their way back into town to craft and roleplay with those items. We would rather like to see players interacting and roleplaying than sitting in a mineshaft waiting every 10 mins for the iron node to regen. Ranches: improvement limited to plains and forest tiles. Passive mob spawning disabled globally, enabled on tiles with the improvement. Farms: improvement limited to plains tiles. This will be a custom flag with Vortex. You CAN farm anywhere but on a Farm Tile Improvement your crops will grow faster and easier. Lumber Camp: improvement limited to forest and mountain tiles. Lumber nodes will be set up in a tile that has that improvement. 64 wood nodes and 64 leaf nodes per tile. Mine: improvement limited to mountain tiles. Capital Mines 64 – Various Stone 32 - Iron Ore 32 - Coal 16 - Quartz 16 - Redstone 16 - Lapiz 8 - Lead 8 - Gold 8 - Copper 6 - Silver 4 - Emerald 4 - Obsidian 4 - Tin 4 - Nickel Tile Mines 32 – Various Stone 16 - Iron 16 - Coal 8 - Redstone 8 - Lapiz 8 - Quartz 4 - Lead 4 - Gold 4 - Copper 3 - Silver 2 - Emerald 2 - Obsidian 2 - Tin 2 - Nickel Clay Quarry: improvement limited to plains and forest tiles. 32 clay Ground Quarry: improvement limited to plains and mountain tiles. 32 gravel 32 dirt Sand Pit: improvement limited to coastal and desert tiles. 16 sand 16 red sand Prismarine: improvement limited to coastal tiles. 32 Prismarine (will drop shards) Terracotta: limited to desert and mountain tiles. 32 terracotta Nether: limited to underground all tiles 16 netherrack 16 soul sand 16 glowstone Following will be Rare Nodes. Bone, Slime, Snow, Carbarum, Platinum, Phosphorus Mina Mina is a big focus of the economy team and the technical team. We have decided to remove voting to earn mina and move it to a mob drop. You can also gain mina from completing dungeons. Mina through contests and community will still be around although their amounts will be subject to be changed. We are looking into a physical currency system and a way for nations to make their own currencies as well. We have gold sinks and ways to spend your money. These include Tile Improvements, Tile Improvement Upgrades, Settlements, and Nation Expansions. More will be added as the Technical Team creates them. Voting will now give players casket keys which they can then use to trade with the Oddity Trader to open caskets relating to a certain profession. Professions We are working hand in hand with the Technical Team to adjust nodes, mina, and professions to make the economy something to enjoy but not pull your hair out. Professions have a HUGE impact on the economy and we are glad to see it will not be restrictive but will be focused on adding to your ability to harvest and make items better. Everything stated here will be adjusted as needed to fit the professions system and the ability for players to enjoy the economy. Special thanks to Nick, Llir, Grool, Zemos, Edelos, Esterlen, Safety Admin Noobman, Zindran, and Xarkly for their input and assistance.
  5. Before I get into the post – this is not to kick up controversy, nor get attention or any such, just some feedback on the surge PVP system after trying it out for a couple days. I also realize it may be way too late into development to make any changes based off of this feedback, and that it might just get disregarded. But then, oh well, I’ve already wasted my time writing it. I like surge this far even though I’m way worse at it than 1.8 pvp. I hope it stays relatively even with equipment differences as to avoid another Axios situation. But there’s a few flaws, and a few suggestions I’d like to give. Firstly, chainmail and piercing weapons. At the moment the only piercing weapon is ranged, and ranged isn’t especially dangerous – just rush them down, or shoot back, not a big issue. This means that chainmail is a very safe option in armour, and to prove this, is the most widely used in the current beta, gambeson being a close second with plate a distant, distant third. To help shake up the dominance of chainmail, and to add on the versatility of using the surge weapons as proxies for RP weapons, I’d suggest adding one of two meele piercing weapons. Maybe a thrusting sword and a spear, a ravens beak, or even a trident. This would change the armour balance a lot, add a few new options, and diversify the weapons. To add more onto ranged – at least in the now, I feel it needs a buff. It doesn’t provide a noticable threat and does maybe three or four hearts of damage before meele begins. Of course you shouldn’t be able to kill someone from afar without them having options, but adding a bit more damage so you need to consider how to counter ranged would maybe add something to combat. To touch on anti-ranged, and combat in general, shields see very little use. This is because of two reasons I think. Firstly, they take up a weapon slot, which leaves you with far less options in gear if you take a shield. And secondly, two-handed weapons are powerful to the point that taking a one-handed weapon and a shield is just giving yourself a gigantic disadvantage. Buffing one-handed weapons (perhaps by giving them a much shorter cooldown to allow some basic combos) and buffing ranged would change this a lot as shields would now be more viable. Alternatively, just give shields their own slot so that you can carry three weapons and a shield, or make shields take up the fifth armour slot right now used for reserve armour. I’ll also briefly touch on the warhammer – it is right now by far the most dominant weapon due to its incredibly high crit damage. This leaves other weapons behind, and a lot of users, since it’s hard to get the timing correct, especially when its lagging, which is a fair bit of the time. Maybe lowering crit damage in general to make them a good tool but not absolutely essential could fix this, and make combat a bit more fair between those skilled and not skilled. And this is where my post veers off into the purely theoretical – mounted combat. We haven’t seen any mounted combat yet, but I’m concerned about it nontheless purely from reading lances and pikes. Firstly, the new pvp system is based heavily around crits, which you get from jumping and then striking the opponent on the downwards arch of your jump. As you may notice, this is very hard on a horse. This leads the main option for horsemen to work as horse archers, and as I mentioned above - ranged combat just isn’t especially powerful. A fix to this that’s of course heavily theoretical, but would lean into historical precedent, is to give lances an incredibly high damage, but stupidly long cooldown. Let’s say straight off a fourth or third of your health, but with a six second cooldown. This would add a niche for mounted combat as opportunistic high-risk high-reward gambling, as if you charge in and land your lance you’ll likely deal massive damage to your opponent. If however, they hit you with their pike to dismount you, or you miss, you’re done for since your weapon still has a six second cooldown til it can be used again. Such a long cooldown also allows time for countering, by shooting them from range, backing up and eating to heal since healing is pretty quick with enough saturation, backing up to join your group again, etc, etc. This would give cavalry an active and interesting role, make pikes a viable thing to carry around to counter this, and add something realistic – lancers, heavy cavalry, shock cavalry, whatever you want to call it. Something very real in the late-medieval-ish era we find ourselves in on lotc. It would also make cohesion very important, since the best counter to high single target damage is to swamp them with numbers, in this case a mass of pikemen counter-charging the cavalryman to dismount them. Which is also realistic, but leans into the current dynamic of group PVP – cohesion and coordination is extremely important, and this would only enforce that even more. But those are my thoughts, I’ll probably come back and add more to this when I remember something or come up with something new, I’d encourage others to give their thoughts as well, this changing of the pvp system si very important and will lead to a lot of changes within the community. (also, @nickrocky213 sorry mate, thought it best to ping you, if I wasn’t supposed to, very sorry about that, have a good day)
