Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted January 2, 2014 Know any that might be able to help? AHEM. Been a water mage since May of 2012, at your service.
gam 386 Share Posted January 2, 2014 That would be me. If you mean Journeyman as in T2, they can't use ice yet. They can barely sustain the water orb they cast. T3 which is adept level, you can use ice, but barely. But Ice is only doable at the late stages of T3, ONCE the hydromancer is confident in his abilities of controlling water. We don't have tiers anymore, plus magic is far more free now. Plus, back in the old system, T3 was not exactly "in the late stages of water evocation" as you say. T3 took literally 2 months to get to, lol. And your knowledge is incorrect, I think. If I remember correctly, late T2 was when someone could begin to use ice, and T3 was when they could be very effective with it.

I am simply correlating our old tiers with generic stages of learning so it's easier for you to understand. Journeyman is still at the beginner level of water evo and cannot cast ice until very late in the adept stage.
Lago 2572 Share Posted January 2, 2014 So if I mastered water evocation, would it be possible (and lore friendly) to develop it into it's own form of magic? Or is it purely bound to water evocation? You could exclusively evoke ice. It used to be that it was an ability of the Water Evokation magic ladder (you used to have power Tiers that you moved up as you RPed magic for longer, but they were removed due to the problems they caused) at the Fourth Tier, so to learn it in the past you'd have to first learn water. However, the Magic Applications no longer exist, so given how Evokation works, you could just do ice and never touch water. It's completely plausible. Pretty certain you can't evoke cold though. I'm only saying what I was told by magic team and GM's back in the day, and what I have relayed to you is what they told me. Ice can be cast in tiny little shards or balls very late T2, and can really be used effectively mid-late T3.

Tier 2, you only just started conjuring that orb of water, barely able to sustain it. Back in my day we used tiers to represent our stages in training. Neri 3590 Share Posted January 2, 2014 As stated above, Hydromancers or Water Evocationists can conjure 'water' (Pure H2O) at any temperature, but any temperature that isn't room temperature requires extra effort to keep the element conjured since it's either endothermic (ice) or exothermic (steam), meaning it's either taking in or expelling energy. Plus ice and steam can be uncomfortable to work around for obvious reasons, which makes keeping them evoked harder. So in short, yes, Hydromancers can conjure water at any temperature, but anything above/below room temp requires more energy and study. Hope that solves your question!
