A Thesis on Personal Reflection

[!]  Jude enters his dimly lit study and as he does every day he makes his way over to the small spruce pew in the corner of his room. Jude then kneels down and bows his head. He begins to do his evening prayers and he thanks the Lord for letting him be a servant of Her Holy Mother Church. As he finishes his prayers Jude begins to do his daily reflection. Jude suddenly rises and heads over to his desk and as he sits down, rubs his beard and then he dips his white owl feather quill into the blue marble inkwell and begins to write.

“It has come to my attention that now, in this day and age, we never stop to pause and reflect. We become so caught up in whatever it is we are doing that we rarely get the chance to close our eyes and reflect on the little things in our lives that make us who we and effect what we believe. For example, have you ever seen a newborn? It is a truly humbling experience to just sit and watch one because they have no knowledge other than feeding. If you watch the newborn they are only upset when they want something. Besides that they are relatively calm. As I usually do, I went to the local orphanage and visited the children. I was asked to watch over a young babe in his cradle and as I stood there I stopped. I had a moment of true peace looking at this marvelous creation the Lord, our God had created. I stopped to marvel in his work and his love. It was a true moment of peace and reflection because I thought to myself; it is just the littlest things in life that can make you truly appreciative. How many times in a day can you say you stop to reflect on all that has happened? That’s exactly it! You cannot remember all the smallest details that you encounter throughout your day. That is why I am writing this thesis, to open up not only your minds but your hearts and give you the opportunity to look around for a minute or two and to take in all the little things in your life that you may miss. These things could be the young boy on the street corner that may suffer from being neglected,  the beggar who may be suffering from hunger, or maybe you stop and see yourself standing there, looking right back at you. You may not realize it but you yourself could be trying to say something that your mouth can not speak and your mind can not comprehend. It is your heart and soul that yearns for reflection. Maybe if we learn to reflect more we can grow closer to God and closer to each other. Now I leave you to reflect upon this, what if you were that boy or the beggar who longed for maybe just a smile or a piece of bread, how would you feel if someone stopped and took the time to give you a little piece of their happiness?”

May the Lord Bless and Keep You Always,

DeaconJude

[!] Looks up and smiles and as he begins to prepare for bed he stops to look out the window into the night sky and he nods and turns to retire for the night.
