Kalehart 1096 Share Posted April 5, 2015 A thing I wrote a few years ago. Really angsty, pretty bad; not sure why I'm sharing it. " Thump… An unending rhythm. The sound of life. The sound that every mortal and immortal alike knows as well as they know themselves, perhaps better. A heartbeat. Incessant, continuous, often faltering, often changing its pattern; but only coming to a halt when life itself disperses. Thump… Some may call it the sound of the soul, for it seems that those without souls are incapable of fathoming the meaning of the sound, nor generating it themselves. The deceased, the irreversibly corrupted. This sound expresses an immeasurable amount of emotion. Elation, despair. Relief, panic. This sound is neither positive nor negative, as it may be joyful when it beats for its first time, yet despairing when it beats for its last. Thump… The sound of balance. The sound of life. The sound of crushing pain, the sound of unfathomable joy. This sound represents all that it is to be alive. It represents both continuity and finality. Marks the beginning and end of existence. If there were truly a soundtrack to life, a song of the soul as it were, this would be it. Neither pleasant enough to be enjoyed, nor repetitive enough as to be unbearable. A story in sound. Tragedy, comedy, romance, horror. All gathered into a seemingly ceaseless beat."
