and of their daily, arduous trials

Eons ago...

As the ancient writtings state, we, the many peoples of Oren, are Descendants to Horen, the First Man, and his bride, just alike the dwarves are children of Urguan, elves scions of Malin, and greenskinned uruk, the offspring of Krug. Our stories speak of great wonders, miracles of firstborn blessed to bathe in Creator's light, walking in peace and joy that we never had a chance to as much as taste.

But those tales, scriptures of eldritch days entail also, how we lost what they had. Weakness, weakness and weakness above all else overtook our ancestors as we sought to better ourselves instead of each other, as we sought council of an equal instead of our superior. Struck by their innocence, our forefathers became the prey fallen Daemon desired more then anything, and soon, would they grow corrupt, tainted, malversed. Turned from their only and true Maker's light. But our Lord is not one of our lords. Loving us most of His material children, He would send His hosts to combat the vile beast and cast it down to Nether, and through them, did He pass upon us the blessings we hold. So, we, the Descendants, came to be eternally cast between His illumination and the darkness looming deep within the bowels of all-matter, for, alas, what is left in this sea of chaos and sickness for us, but his love? When the glory of past vanishes, when walls crumble to dust, when our bones turn to the soil, what is there, that remains to us small mortals to hold onto?

Ever since then, we struggled. Some, like the slayers of good king Vydra, sought the easy way. They'd breed themselves like cattle, herd their sinnery, culling down anything they deemed unworthy their biased ideal, only to fall like such cattle when the righteouss brought justice to their necks. It is not in breeding, and it is not in killing that we can find ourselves anew - for how could one fight darkness with shadows? Pouring olive onto fire will only make it worse. We would not have it the easy way. We would not be a spoiled child that is only rewarded for it's mischief.

The road we thread is thorny, filled with pebbles sharp as glass and beasts looming just over the horizon. But we walk it with faith, we walk it with the love we hold for each other and for our truthmost Father, because we know that if the journey was easy, it's destination would be worthless. We all are given different challenges to overcome. Our greed for the neighbour's wealth, our childish envy for the privileges of the sovereigns, our simple, feeble will that casts us further away from God on the path we walk. I have travelled far and wide in our old homeland, and I have underwent similar journeys in the isles, and in both did I find one simple truth - that it is will, and will above all else to struggle that is our redemption. The will to protect our beloved ones when others flee, the will to starve ourselves just for the sake of keeping what little bread remains for our children, the will to work relentlessly to build magnificent new homes, workshops and temples alike.

It is this persistence, that will let us persevere. It is this stubborn nature of mortals, to do good, when so many strive to serve only themselves and the fallen Daemon's vile corruption, that can guide us to the one and only cure we can find in our Lord.

For... what are His blessings, if not encouragement to do so?

We are given strength so as to protect the weak.

We are given wisdom to guide the dull.

We are given clarity of mind to discover ever more wonders.

For is it easier to strike down those fragile, to outsmart the feebly-minded, to greed over what we have rather then seek out what we can hold onto. And it is not the easy way that will bring us all into Seven Skies. May you, who read it, stay safe and vigilant in our Creator's wisdom.

Vince malum bono.
