My rant

So, lemme start with this: This is a rant as the title says. It is my personal view on server. I don't expect everyone to agree. Part of me expects that it will upset people because it clashes with their view.

Only posting this because what is the point of a rant if someone else doesn't hear it? So therefore, I don't ind if you post a reply on what you think. However, I would like people to keep their replies PG per say. Meaning avoid using curse words. I find that if you avoid cursing in your post, you sound x10 maturer. I would like to think there is people who like to see themselves as mature. Without further ado, my rant.

Recently, I've been putting thoughts together. These thoughts range from the past to present. I'm an oldie and my thoughts may be a bit outdated I guess. What I see from my time looking at the forums(A long time may I say), I noticed that server's community seems to have a large voice on PvP and items(I guess since that what the PvP is usually about). Now, I am not against PvP in any way but, I am against usual reasoning behind it. To me, I see that more people just want to be able to PVP and Raid(For pointless items for you ask me) just for the fun of it and that is the extent of their reasoning. I just feel as there needs to be more reasoning than that. Now, I know that it is easier to solve a combat scenario via RP(Hopefully if it because there is 3 or 4 plus players taking part in the fight) however, sometimes it feels as if roleplay has very little to do with anything. Feels like the "I'm bored, lemme go screw up someone else's day" mentality. This is minecraft where I know we have our limitations but, you don't have to limit to yourself to take items(that arent even important storywise) and killing people or building(which in my mind is a completely subject for another time maybe). You've signed up for a roleplay server(probably the only server to actually have people on it) and so you would think you would be here fore the story telling aspect that comes with it. It's fun to build stories, especially if you have no idea where the story is taking you. Instead of running by say a beggar to your next "PvP and Loot" location, you should stop and see what his/her story could be. They could have been on the top of the world for it to only come crashing down on them. OR maybe if you're raiding a place it's because you heard that someone own's a cool thing(Like an artifact or something with story) that you or your order must have. Or possibly raid that location for a prison. This doesn't mean straight up PvP. It means take the chance and roleplay. After all that is why we're here.

I read a thread about orcs stealing stuff from halflings. Halflings have no actual care for loot however, I notice they cared about to roleplay aspect of this raid. Like how does an Orc get into a hobbit home without cause some destruction. Sure, if you were to try and probably RP it out, you would have to wait for a GM to come and help you out. You may complain that "I just want to be and out since I probably only going to get some potatoes and wheat" but, where is the role play aspect of that? I think it's more fun to see signs and damage showing that someone took some time to get into your hut to grab those apples. It really does enhance the roleplay experience.

..I don't know I just feel as if PvP voice is becoming louder over the RP voice. Maybe I just have very strong opinions towards RP over PvP due to the fact I've been roleplaying since I was 10ish (I am now 19, going to be 20 this year). I've come a long way and LoTC has been apart of that process. Roleplay can only improve if you work at it. Your story telling abilities will increase. It may not seem like it but, they do. Trust me, I look back to LoTC and my previous posts or other places I've been and see that I've come a long way.

Just my two cents really.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against pvp, but I am against pvp default. As you said, it seems to be more for obtaining items and to just satisfy ooc needs (low self-esteem) rather than as a tool to deal with those who can't seem to wrap their minds around the fact that their character is not a god. Awhile I had suggested a new default, referred to as defender default, that lets the defender choose the type of combat. That means that guards can still pvp terrible rp'ers (why not just br after they fail to listen? Most people do try to teach those types, but it does not work) and rp'ers can still rp combat without worry of being ganked by pvp bandits. Polling on this closes today it seems.
