“Morbid fascination, cruel mobility.. these things make ends meet.”

The sun began to set in Haelun’or as two solitary figures sat in the isolated orchard. Karinah and Orchaldir Elibar’acal sat quietly on the bench in front of the tree, two empty wineglasses resting on the grass.. "I wish we got to spend more time like this, Orchal.” Karinah did her signature dimpled smile, looking to him. Orchaldir remained deathly silent, before he said. “I have a surprise for you, sister. Close your eyes.”

Karinah did as she was bid, saying. “It can’t possibly be something I haven’t seen, so why keep my eyes closed?” Orchaldir hesitated, his hand slipping to the dagger at his waist, quietly unsheathing it and moving it up as he placed his left hand against his sister’s bare shoulder. “It has been a long journey, one rife with terrors. No matter what, Karinah, we’ve remained at each other’s sides. That ends now.”

She grinned, nodding as he wrapped the blindfold around her head. “At last,” he went on. “Our family will have justice whether it be for the wrong doings of Taeleh or Laethis. I promise.” Karinah’s features beget a frown, before suddenly the dagger pierced her belly. She screamed, aghast, blood seeping from her chest. “Orchal!” She sobbed, numb. The anesthetic in her wine had taken hold as planned.

“I’m sorry,” he said, as he laid her down across the bench. She went silent, before she reached out to grasp his hand. “I.. I love you.” He murmured, before his eyes exuded a faint gold glow, his idle hand moving to grasp hers. Her hold on his hand tightened noticeably, she gasped.

It was only then that his connection to the void had begun to take its toll on him, he exhaled. With some fervor, he continued. The bridge to the void had formed now, his other hand brushed against the stab wound in her belly as she began to lose consciousness. At last, Karinah spoke.
“I.. forgive you.” It came to an end, his sister’s body now limp as he snared her soul. He nearly retched from the unnatural feeling, the very essence of this dark ritual overtaking his senses. He felt imbalanced, as the connection began to weaken, Karinah's small form trembling before she at last succumbed to death, releasing a pained gasp as the pervasive magic at last binding her soul to his person. The young high elf wept in silence, a bloodied dagger laying on the grass to his side. Sometimes the cost of power is too great.
