A Simple Act of Kindness

Today began in a wholly different place. Or, that's at least how the catchphrase goes. Remembering it, along with any other golden thoughts of Descendants, wasn't very reassuring for the young Lady Kharadeen, once she stepped through the gates of the Imperial city for the first time, accompanied by her two most trusted guards. One of them being the daring, Percy Black. Within it's lively streets, the bustling districts barely contained within the city walls, and the landscape's elevation, it always felt like something of an anthill. Even with it's disorderly militants and lackluster bureaucrats, it occasionally felt ever so dreadfully purposeful. No matter who you were, in a spot like that, you'd always feel out of place and in someone else's way, and yet, that ruckus felt pleasant, as if this creative chaos had a method to the madness of it's very own.

In such a eerily constant flow, it'd be more difficult not to step through someone else's course. And indeed, as expected, she wound up getting herself in trouble - the looks themselves could easily betray one's allegiance. To the Princess' surprise, shouts of his Imperial Highness's own people would defend her. To some, purchasing a book for a young Qalasheen's birthday celebration wasn't a crime. Especially with a nation who shared neutrality.

"Let her leave in peace!" -- "SHES DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE THIS!" -- "You ignorant f***, you will ruin an alliance with not a crime casted!"

The man who's way she crossed was fierce and determined to bring her to justice, whatever that would have been, even as his own men grumbled in concur to that idea. Some of Grey's own men stood down once he drew his sword towards the defenseless girl. The book she had purchased from such a kind shop owner, now in the hands of Percy Black. As she prepared for the inevitable. A racism that never seemed to perish within' some people. And that very man, the shop owner, stood in her defense and elaborated her freewill allowed in the city.

"Sieze her!" A shout from Bradshaw Grey sounded. The ripping of his sword now drawn.

Yet, not a single one of his men dared to challenge the wrath of the outcome from his sole ignorance displayed before the baffled people of Orenia. And yet, eventually brought to the dinning hall of what appeared to be barracks, she'd yet have a chance to meet someone who wrought Oren into such a proper machine. It creaked and crooned under the emperor's treatment, but enough oil there, and some whacks with the wrench at the other, had made those things, many of them unimaginable before and merely dreamed of at the golden times like those of de Savoy's, simply possible and in the emperor's grasp. Yet, his men showed kindness and the upmost respect to her. Offerings of food and drinks made towards the woman. As others who were forced to arrest her for no other crime except being Harian, they stood with shameful looks plastered to their faces. Regret washing over their expressions and even one, cursing Bradshaw for his commands.

It was a delightful meeting, Emiress Kaia thought, especially since it was bond between old rafiqis (friends), and an honor in a way. It's hard not to respect a man and an some say, enemy, like that, and the fact he allowed her life not only showed his magnanimity, but also realization that pointless violence didn't serve purpose - for killing an Emiress wouldn't had been the brightest of judgements.

"Happy birthday fourth birthday, Theo!" Kaia extended the wrapped book along with various jewels to the four year old. A smile plastered on her face regardless of the day's seemingly reckless events. "May this book provide you with happiness and remember, Theo. Not all Orenians are as terrible as they're made out to be. One snake cannot speak for the sheep." she'd teach to him. The Orenian crest on the book itself.

And so, those thoughts, among many others, would chase her on the way out and home, and perhaps a little patience would be born for those who had dwelled so long in the darkness they've only recently remembered, the sun existed.
