The missing trees

Gerald the Elder of Mellsburry was venturing out from Mellsburry to further explore the isles they were on. He stumbled across a wild mushroom, and then proceeds to sniff it  "T'is is a wild mus'room fer sure!" He'd say. Not content with this simple discovery of wild mushrooms, Gerald traveled farther away from Mellsburry and into a small group of grassy mountains he had explored once before, where he notices something strange is amiss, in a spot he cleary remembers as being forested, there is a noticeable lack of trees. "Did someun cu' down these trees?" Gerald would say "I remembah there bein' trees 'ere" Confused, Gerald goes back to Mellsburry to tell his fellow Halflings the interesting news.
