What’s the rule you agree with the most?: If your character commits suicide, he or she is permanently killed. This is also the case if you use knowledge of the monks to disregard the threat of death - If you're about to die and roleplay along the lines of "Kill me, I'll just be revived", you will have to PK. Note that ultimately, this is a staff decision. Attempting to force or trick another player into breaking this rule will be punished.

Haddock was born sometime during the later stages of the Holy Orenian Empire to a butter-maker and his wife in a small village by the mountains. Haddock was the runt of the litter, remaining very quiet, soft spoken and emotionally cold, with few friends of his age and many older boys tormenting him constantly. This changed when he met a girl named Meryl from Johannesburg, who he fell in love with and was intent on marrying one day. Meryl helped him come out of his shell and become more sociable, her brother taught him how to fight and assisted him in gaining the respect and fear of his tormentors, a favor the young Haddock would not soon forget.

 

When he was older Haddock was tasked with finding cattle who got lost grazing in the higher mountains near Lorraine, he did this almost every summer despite his parents worried protests. One day while doing his usual rounds in the wilderness Haddock heard an ear splitting explosion followed by a rumbling, before he could react, Haddock and his horse were struck by an avalanche, killing the horse and badly injuring its rider.

 

For weeks, Haddock was unseen by the villagers and sustained himself on molten snow, mushrooms and berries. Upon finally being found by a search party sent by his father, the extremely ill and weak Haddock learnt that Johannesburg had been destroyed in a colossal explosion and that the Empire was no more. Haddock demanded to know if Meryl was safe and sound but was met with frowning faces and slowly shaking heads.

 

After this Haddock receded back into his shell, adopting the quiet and emotionally cold traits he was known for younger in his youth, but worse. His relationship with his family and the other villagers went sour and he eventually decided to leave and see where the road took him. Haddock traveled the many lands of Axios, discovering new things and dabbling in many different professions from carpenting to piracy along the way. At one point he was part of a short lived mercenary group where for the first time in years he made close friends, but once the group was disbanded he ran away, not being able to deal with the abandonment.

 

He continues to seek steady employment, now travelling back towards the Human lands.

 

 

 

Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?) 

Haddock's personality is characterized by a long term pattern of social detachment and, from his perspective, betrayal. Having lost what he considered to be the love of his life, he has difficulty expressing positive emotions and when he does it is with very restricted range, especially when communicating with others. 

 

 

Because of Meryl's death, he lacks the desire for intimacy, and avoids close relationships with others. He generally prefers to spend his down time alone.

 

In contrast to Haddock's difficulty expressing positive emotions, Haddock reacts strongly to adversity and when pushed enough reacts with extreme, violent anger and paranoia.

 

He enjoys long walks at night and mountain climbing as well as esoteric books on the spiritual benefits of these two activities.

 

Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?)

Haddock does not have any aspirations apart from living a virtuous life (by his own standards) ,gaining stable employment and finding true happiness again.

 

Strengths/Talents: (what is your character really, really good at?)

 

Due to his upbringing, Haddock is a fairly skilled hunter and butter-maker.

He is good at hand to hand combat, being taught by Meryl's older brother.

When sober, he possess significant mental fortitude due to his experiences.

He has an encyclopedic knowledge of folklore.

He is ambidextrous.

 

Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?)

Haddock needs to ingest a painkiller at least once an elven day due to extreme migraines he experiences as a result of his avalanche injury which damaged his spine near the base of the skull. The ingredients for a painkiller strong enough are often difficult to find. Failure to take the painkiller results in extreme, debilitating pain which often results in a blackout.

 

Haddock is an alcoholic, using the bottle as a means to dull his senses and forget about his problems. His addiction is severe and once he has started drinking, he will drink until he passes out or vomits and if he doesn't have enough money to get satisfiabily drunk, he will steal what he can't afford regardless of the consequences.

 

When Haddock experiences his migraine in its early stages, he has a sort of aimless deathwish, generally seeming unafraid of death and acts very recklessly, endangering himself and others. He is very suggestible in this state, leading others to take advantage of him in these situations.

Haddock is 183cm tall. He has fairly long brown hair and green eyes. He has a fairly fit physique.
