Lost and Found

Spoiler

Charlotte Marbrand had simply wanted to go for a walk before supper. She walked amidst the tall pines outside the capital of Haense, but the sun began to set and she lost track of the time. For hours, she wandered in the cold snow, snowflakes covering her hair and resting on her eyelashes. Hours turned into a day, and all she had found were some friendly dwarves who had provided her with a thick cloak and snow boots. A stray dog had also followed her for a time, until he lost interest and chased after a snow hare that had tempted him from a burrow.

Pressing onward, sure she would find a sign leading her back to the city, she came across the burning and bloody remains of a battlefield. It was mostly skeletons, but it made her stomach turn to see crows still feasting on the occasional rotten flesh or eyeball. She had almost wretched, but chose to avert her gaze to the moon shining down on her from up ahead. War is a terrible thing, her father had once told her, But what comes after is often peace and prosperity. She believed him, but the sight of the remnants of war was not something she enjoyed, to be sure.

The little girl began to slow as she came upon a tall, wooden palisade. From it hung an old tattered banner, of black and green wool. Merely perking a brow, she passed under the low gate to find a tiny encampment. She let out a sigh of relief, as there was a fire burning in the pit and an old cot laid underneath a tent. With as much strength as she could muster after her long struggle of being lost, she lowered the wooden gates on either side of the camp. It was to  be her camp now...at least until she found out how to get home. An odd sort-of conquest, but a warm fire and warm bed was what she needed.

((Thought I would start a little series about my new persona, a 12 year-old girl who has currently found herself lost due to a bad choice in activity. I will post when something interesting happens, but I thought this was a good start! I am excited to try out playing this way, a 'leaf on the wind' so-to-speak.))
