NomadGaia 930 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Theme The good doctor’s toes curled around the grassy forest floor of the green jewel of the dominion, as a small smile curled across her weary features. She felt rather happy for the first time in a while, and meandered lazily around the square, just that, wandered for a while, until she sat upon the fountain’s edge, lifting herself up to the stoney ledge. She only just caught a glimpse of it, but it was enough to make her take a second look. As she had pulled herself up onto the ledge, she caught a look at her reflection. It was her face, but not from any recent year nor any future year. This was her face as a child once more. She was… bewildered, to say the least. Her face contorted into a mixture of surprise and guilt, seeing her former self. And with a twinkle of her eye, her reflection tilted its head, as if gazing into a reflection of her older self. The two stared at each other equally bewildered, though her younger eyes gaze up with wonder while the older looked down in shame. What have I done to you? The older woman reached down into the water, as if to try and touch her younger self, but as her fingers hit the water, the ripples carried her youth away through the fountain. No! Come back, please! The doctor begged, dragging her hands through the water to try and grab some piece of her younger self. But it was too late. The ripples had gone and with it, her reflection. Just then, a familiar pain returned to Awaiti’s legs, shooting up through her body as she cried out into the empty square, falling off of the fountain’s edge onto the forest floor with a loud ‘THUD’. And the doctor’s tears seeped into the soil with the departure of her childhood figure. They dried on her face as she laid there, and her eyes opened. Lying in front of her was the woman’s cane, which she reached out and grabbed, using it to prop herself up with a pained huff of air. I’m dreaming… I must be She wiped her face of tears, sniffing. The city was quiet, one could hear a pin drop. And the good doctor noticed this, her amber eyes darting around the empty square. She limped deeper into the city, checking the buildings with a quick glance, all empty. But then she came across the clinic, her clinic. It had been burned to the ground, and now lie in charred ruins. And there she stood, looking into the smoking building with a small frown on her face. Why am I seeing this? A chunk of charred oak was smashed by her cane as she stepped forwards. The woman began to sift through the chunks of wood, pushing them aside with her cane. Buried under the splinters and planks was a body, an elven man, skin as dark as hers. Amber eyes. He looked strangely untouched by the rubble and fire, his lifeless form peering up into the sky. Upon his chest, the man had been branded with the symbol of a hanging spider. And through some phenomena, the woman looked on it with familiarity. Where had she seen it? And she searched her mind, every nook and crevice. She had to have seen it before, this was a dream after all. Dreams play with things you know, not things to come, don’t they? And just then, a familiar voice behind her began to cackle, as the dream dissolved into nothingness in her mind’s eye, and she was thrust back into the dark long term care ward of the clinic.
