Definitions

What is roleplaying?:

Roleplay, or RP for short, is the act of playing the role of and acting as a character would rather than yourself. Lord of the Craft is a roleplaying server, and thus all players are required to create a roleplay character whose shoes they will fill for all in-game interactions. Players must roleplay their character's name, age, race, interests, and character history.

What is metagaming?:

In it’s simplest form, metagaming (also known as meta) is using informations outside of your characters life to use them as guideance, and it’s highly punishable, as you can get multiple weeks of punishments and even a permanent ban if it continues. Most usually, metagaming is used for getting help if someone attacks you or if your town is getting raided. The most usual forms of metagaming can be found on Skype, Teamspeak or forums. It can also happen with the servers Out-Of-Character messaging plugin, where people simply message other people out of character using the /msg command.

There are many more aspects of metagaming that are done in the game. Mostly it concists of the character knowing something that he would not know. Knowing someone's name without being told, hearing people talk even though they are underground or rooms away, knowing that a character is a Frost Witch, Homunculus, Wraith, or any other creature just because you read their card, remembering the events that lead to the character's death (characters can be revived, but they can't remember how they died), having information that is hidden in game (such as members of a dark guild), seeing mc name tags through walls and heading to the player (if the player doesn't want being randomly found, if he is just waiting for something to happen, or someone to roleplay with, it's alright), reading an emote of an action that your character wouldn't see and reacting to it, and many more.

Be aware of it, and don’t join the people participating in metagaming, as it’s much more pleasurable to simply enjoy roleplaying without the effects of Out-Of-Character (OOC) information! This of course does not mean that you should stay away from the forums, as the forums can provide tons of both useful info and additional roleplay to be had. But just restrain yourself from using OOC info as your help when your character is making a decision.

What is power-emoting (powergaming)?:

Power-emoting (also known as powergaming) in it's simplest form is the act of any character doing something they'd realistically be unable to do. In truth, even Metagaming is a form of power-emoting. Power-emoting is detrimental to Roleplaying through the breaking of immersion, and a loss for fairness to other players. Power-emoting is most easily displayed when an emote made by a player is made that does not allow another player to respond/defend himself from. This is considered power-emoting because it is giving one's character the ability to overpower someone else's character without any resistance, while realistically there'd be quite some resistance.

How such an emote should look.

Power-emoting can also be displayed through a character's abilities, or prowess in battle. A character in full plate mail would be unable to perform difficult feats of agility, due to the weight of his armor, and a Halfling would not easily be able to beat an Orc in a challenge of strength. Power-emoting can even extend to magical abilities, as mages likewise have limits to their power, with magical conflicts ironically being the most common source of power-emoting.

To avoid powergaming, one should always ensure they understand the limits and strengths of their own, and other characters. Likewise, an openness to defeat is helpful, as most powergaming offenses are done in an effort to beat another character. If you can't do it in or see it possible in real life, you should not be able to do it in Rp, some cases like magic do not work this way.

NOTE: Just because someone else power-emotes does not mean its okay to power-emote yourself. If someone blatantly power-emotes, PM the person respectfully and refute gently, if they refuse and continue power-emoting than it is either best to let it go, or contact a moderator if it pe

Do not fear! This is not the end! This simply means the requirements that were assigned to the application were not completely fulfilled. The following reasons will be listed below. You may reapply after 6 hours, if you apply sooner than 6 hours you will face denial. Please take your time to correct and improve on your application before re-applying to LoTC, as we will only review up to 5 applications in the calendar month. Thank you.

Changes:

- Your definitions for powergaming, metagaming, and roleplaying are copied and pasted from our wiki. This constitutes for an automatic denial of your application. They need to be put into your own words, so you will understand them better.

- Please refer to your character in 3rd person in your biography, and include at least one part of the lore in your application. The lore can be found here, and can include locations, events, or other things. You also need to clarify your persona's age, as "20 real hours" does not make sense.

- Please add a bit more detail to your strengths, weaknesses, and biography. This is a place for you to build your character and flesh out his or her personality.
