Introduction

The Ursurian Order was first founded after the fall of principality by a band of Curonic knights, together creating would soon be known as the Oath of the First Knights. These scriptures were later found and revived by the Lords Devereux, re-establishing the Order under the command of Edward Devereux, with Wilhelm establishing himself as the Grand Knight. Their mettle and determination was tested and tried true, with the Order increasing in size and stature, along with the newfound county, soon to be duchy, of Cyrilsburg. Under the guidance of Edward, the Ursurians became a fierce fighting unit, with an expertise of various types of weaponry.

After growing to a certain size, the Order required different sections and branches in order to properly manage their fighting force. As such, a navy, a scouting branch, and a municipal force were created in order to serve as an alternative to the main force, before becoming merged back into one central branch, with specialized ranks being distributed instead.

The members of the Order of Ursus have two goals for their duty. The first is to defend the lands of Curon with their life, to shield the people from enemy plans and serve their Duke and Grand Knight with every drop of blood in their body. The second is to locate, regulate preserve and safeguard the Curonic Ideals, Virtues and Cultures, for they are the true heart of a Duchy.

Ranking Structure

When first inducted into the Ursus, one must swear an Oath, differing from that of the original First Code, to dedicate their life to the Ursus and the people of Curon, until either retirement or death. Once sworn in, they may begin to move on from their ranks and soar above and beyond. The ranks of the Main Branch, not including the High Command, are as follows:

Green: This is a fresh recruit, having not yet been sworn in. Their armor fresh and shiny, and their experience limited, these recruits will be tried the hardest, learning to handle and overcome the toughest of challenges in an Ursurians way.

Initiate: After being sworn in, this is the first official rank of an Ursurian. They will assume the responsibilities and have the established expectations of such. Ursurians are held to a high standard, as they are intended to be a highly skilled and disciplined. Despite being of the lowest ranks, through hard work, effort, and discipline, an initiate will find themselves quickly moving up in no time.

Guardsman: After some time as an initiate, should the Ursurian exceed the expectations put on them, they will achieve the rank of Guardsman. A Guardsman is expected the same as an initiate, yet their added experience will find themselves rewarded through their skill and prowess.

Pikeman: A Pikeman is promoted after the requirements are met to advance, duties have been regularly fulfilled, as well as trainings have been attended. They will have the proper tools given to them, as well as their more experienced status in the Order will not be overlooked.

Man-At-Arms: This rank is where a certain veteran status is beginning to be achieved in the Order, after having served some time. After meeting the necessary requirements for advancement, a Man-At-Arms will begin to take on more responsibilities in preparation of higher ranks. This is also the rank in which they will be assigned a various regiment, either the Navy, Scouts, or the Municipal Police, in which they’ll be given a rank of equal status upon entering.

Blitzkriegs: Having already proven their worth at lower ranks, a Blitzkrieg will undergo more and more responsibilities, leading missions and patrols for their lower ranked comrades. Their combat prowess will no longer be the only thing in question, but rather their ability to lead and direct.

Guardians: A Guardian is the second highest enlisted rank, reaching a point of seniority in their regiments.  They are expected to both command and lead in the absence of their officers, as well as effectively listen to those officers. Highly trained and ferocious in battle, Guardians are a capable fighting force.

Arms-Master: Having achieved all the requirements expected of them consistently throughout their time in the Ursus Order, an Arms-Master is the highest enlisted rank possible. They are fully expected to begin preparing for advancement into officer status, taking the liberty to show their experience and knowledge of the Ursus, the city, and their fellow Ursurians.

Lieutenant: After having proven their ability to lead, a Lieutenant is the first of the officer roles, beginning to take on newfound responsibilities. Leading in defensive and offensive raids in the absence of their Major or superior officer, running patrols, or conducting trainings for his enlisted men, are but a few of the duties of an officer.

Major: A Major is an example of what happens when an Ursurian has taken their duty above and beyond for their people. They will be put in charge of their own men and expected to lead appropriately, bestowing their wisdom and experience on them.

Lieutenant Commander: A Commander’s duty revolves around assisting their High Commander, acting as their right hand man. They will assist in commanding their Majors, and will do as their High Commander instructs, directly taking orders from him and the Marshal.

Commander: The Marshal’s right hand. They are in charge in the event of the Marshal’s absence, and their word is final, barring that of the Duke. They will be expected to organize and lead different missions, patrols, and trainings, all while protecting the city during attacks. This is the highest tier of leadership for the main branch, and they will act as an example to all.

Arms and Weapon Mastery

In order to raise your status in the ranks of the Ursus, one must complete their expected duties, in conjunction with a test of the ranks primary weapon. Each rank of the enlisted is expected to master a certain weapon, and test their knowledge of it and its use, before they can be promoted. This is to demonstrate the versatility of the Ursus, and harden them into stronger warriors.

The basic weapon of each member is the first weapon they are trained in, the Katzbalger. An arming sword with great cutting power, it is a great side weapon for any warrior, serving as a utility tool as well. As the men rise further up the ranks, they learn to master the Kriegsmesser, the Pike, the Halberd and finally the Zweihander. For those with a knack of ranged weaponry, they master the Arbalest.

The Order of Ursus wears the best technology the Blacksmiths have to offer. A Coat of Plates with the proud colors of the Order and a suit of Chain-mail underneath. A steel sallet protects the face from damage. The finer and more experienced warriors wear a suit of Fluted Plate Armor for maximum protection.
